Bundles of newspapers would be spread throughout Aevos for all to see. Written cleanly and vividly upon dense sheets of high quality cane parchment, the pages of blocky script would also be covered in scribbled cute doodles! Including the wonderful BRAND! The floral berry aroma of desert oasis inks wafts pleasantly from each heavy page. This must be...

Horde Affairs: The First Klamor of Aevos!

Spoiler

With a new city comes new challenges agh decisions for the Horde to make, a fact never more prevalent than with the first Klamor of Aevos! For nub-uruk readers, a Klamor is when the clan leaders and other government members of the Horde meet to decide upon various challenges and disputes using spiritually blessed tablets of bone and Aurum called Ashtkaar. The more leaders of the Horde within a clan (such as Huntsgoth or Skriptgoth), the greater say that Wargoth of the clan has in making decisions. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Klamor without a Klaim to initiate it…

Avotha’Lur, frustrated with the direction of Clan Lur and the actions of Madoc’Lur, challenged him to follow the codes of the Clan Council by setting aside either the position of Dominus or Wargoth of clan Lur. Even further, the young hunter publicly announced her intent to take over as Wargoth of the Lurs regardless of any council decisions, an incredibly bold move for one so young. In her writing,
“I Call Dominus and Wargoth Madoc’Lur to choose, give up the right as Dominus or give up your place as Lurgoth. Should you choose to stay as Dominus, I Avotha'Lur aim to make my claim as Wargoth for the Lur Clan.” Klamor set and challenges issued, the Hall of Rexes became rife with tension as Avotha’Lur successfully defended the legitimacy of her Klaim. That was the moment Madoc’Lur spoke up from his position beside the Throne of the Horde…

“As much as [being] the Dominus was fun, it appears I have turned a blind eye to my clan. Therefore it is time to reaffirm why I am the Wargoth by putting the young Lur back in her place. I will step down as Dominus… and will accept the Klomp. However, it will be held in the Lur village where the young Lur will be buried should she perish.” With this shocking revelation, Madoc’Lur conceded the position of Dominus to instead maintain his leadership of clan Lur, accepting the impending klomp and stating if Avotha were to die as a result it would be of her own actions. Rampant cheering and roars of approval echoed throughout San’Briu’s desert air even as the next topics were discussed. The prices of housing within Horde Lands, a decision for clan Ixtzul to ponder on the choice of their Wargoth, who like Madoc’Lur held a second position in the council, and a question for the Yazgurtan from an honorary were settled quickly. The Kaktuz Weekli still waits for Xiuh’Ixtzul’s response on the matter.

The other looming issue of contention for the Clans to decide upon was on the management of Honoraries, or lack thereof. After much harsh debate and rebuttals against a proposal to strip previous Honoraries of status and redo all trials, it was decided a method of recordkeeping for which lessers have risen through trial and strife to become members of Krug’s children is necessary. Creating the position of an Honorgoth was raised and in the moment agreed upon, and with a show of force and integrity in Hur-Mauk (an official yet non-lethal Klomp) Azfrai of clan Lur took up authority. Interestingly further talk with Rex Kybal’Akaal, who was managing external relations during the Klamor, has thrown such ideas of the council adding Ashtkaar without a Rex's direct input into contention.

The ongoing Klomp between Avotha’Lur and Madoc’Lur was a brutal and bloody affair. Members of the Horde watched as the more experienced defender took harsh yet honorable advantage of pre-existing injuries to overpower the feorc, savage kicks and overhead blows slamming down upon her prone form even as Avotha showed remarkable displays of resilience. Without room nor chance of an upset, Madoc swiftly concluded the Klomp through sheer force, knocking the younger clan member into unconsciousness agh thus defending his title.

Of course, this was not the only result of our first Klamor. Ghoraza has laid claim to the role of Dominus with the Rex’s blessing, Kybal’Akaal stating in public declaration
“The Dominus of the Iron Horde is expected to serve as the fist of the Rex, both fist and mouth, when the Rex cannot be present personally. Be this in Klamor, or in acts of diplomacy. As well as assisting in helping the wayward pathfinders return to their kin. Less’ Ghoraza is toppled and challenged, he shall remain my Dominus in service to the Horde, this is the word of your Rex.” So far the Kaktuz Weekli is unaware of any challenges to this Klaim, yet will release updates as necessary.

World Affairs: Settling down in new lands

Spoiler

The new lands of Aevos have quickly become the subject of much exploration and fascination by Descendant-kind, construction of nation capitals rising across the continent. Of course, this time of change is rife with notable events, which can be summarized below…

The leadership of what is now Talarnor have crowned a new Princess agh Consort after the frankly disastrous reign of the Buurz-Protector Princess on Almaris resulted in their capital being torn apart by foul voidal sorceries agh unending hordes of Mori. In their first announcement they claim
“Following the destruction of our lands, the Celia’nor as we knew it is no more. We must persist in our strength and rise from the ashes that have been left in its wake. We will rebuild the nation as a whole. A profound opportunity for renewal and revitalization has been granted to us, and Princess Verayla and Prince Consort Alcyon shall guide this rebirth of our nation.” Given past occurrences of High Albai making grand announcements and yet going back on empty blah behind closed doors, The Kaktuz Weekli remains skeptical of such ambitious statements, but these new rulers offer a hope of redemption for the most proud descendants of Malin.

Trade caravans have begun making rounds between the still expanding nations, noble among these being expeditions led by Lorde Davli of Rozania. Participants of all kinds were accepted in efforts to spread descendant culture and artisanal luxuries, including top shelf brews and vintage strains of Cactus Green. These wandering traders have helped supply the onslaught of bars agh taverns celebrating grand openings, allowing them to display a variety of exotic wares for local grunts agh leaders to partake in as we celebrate the wonder of new opportunities.

Despite this, the roads still harbor danger. Zhara slavers bearing the symbol of an Aurum yellow agh Argent bone shield upon their chests attempted to sell a captured ally of the Horde within the very courtyards of San’briu. Such a dishonorable agh globbish display was swiftly punished with permanent bludgeoning of azh worthless criminal, yet the other remains at large. The Kaktuz Weekli recommends armed forces to patrol borders as necessary to eliminate any assemblies of honorless flesh-peddlers, before they lock more elderly or children within ferrum manacles.

In other news, accounts of espionage with Zhara lands have been declassified by the realm of Hanseti-Ruska, shedding light upon formerly unknown truths; over a decade of efforts to destabilize the past empire of Oren through intentional negligence agh deceit. These honorless acts of skulduggery and betrayal include blatant lies towards allies, creating loopholes within honorable government decisions, and slandering the souls of fallen or missing citizens through ghost votes in elections, as well as the mere idea of these “Lemonade Reforms”.  In their own words:
“Upon closer inspection and analysis, we have confirmed that many of these registered voters are fake, dead, or otherwise incapacitated and unable to vote… This means that I, in the name of these incapable citizens, would be able to cast a vote for our Haeseni candidates.” It does not surprise the Kaktuz Weekli that such acts of undisguide cravenness agh ambition for power were enacted, yet the sheer vitriol of these tactics show once again Humanity's tendency to abuse the methods of Iblees rather than remain honorable. Truly those ancestors within their Seven Skies must be looking away with disgust.

More information upon current affairs in the lands of Aevos shall be released as correspondence between newly settled lands increases.

Spiritualism - A War of Spirits and Gluttony

Spoiler

A shocking agh unexpected announcement from Clan Ungri has revealed they are initiating a Spirit War against Glutroz, the greater immortal of Greed and Gluttony! This act is the tipping point for the cultural shift of Ologs from worshiping said being to instead praising a lesser Spirit of Voracity and Endless Hunger simply called “The Maw”. In the words of Clan Ungri: “The Snake will fall and its shrines toppled, Its riches plundered and returned to the Great Maw. Any and all who would stand in the way of the Sons and Daughters of the Great Maw and support the usurper serpent shall find an equal fate to it and feed the Great Maw.” While such an announcement was unexpected, action swiftly followed as the Olog-Goblin clan agh multiple allies brutally dismantled a shrine within the former bank of Glutroz. Terrible displays of brute force shattered stone and snapped ferrum bars as the architecture was violently repurposed into an abyssal pit in praise of The Maw.

While this movement seems unopposed within the Mortal Plane, only time will tell how this situation develops or how the Snake of Greed Agh Gluttony will react to the rebellion from a subordinate being. The Maw’s success would have unknown consequences for all shamans pacted to this spirit, as the last case of a Lesser Spirit ascending in power so dramatically was Orgon himself, preceding the continent wide plague that now annihilated being’s design. Most records from back then have been lost to time, as such the effect of such momentous change within the spirit realm may only be guessed at by elders and shamans both.

Concerning Orcish Bloodlust

Spoiler

Bloodlust, the ever present rage within our minds, has been a curse set upon Krug's people ever since his battle against foul Iblees. A crimson haze seeping within the edges of our vision, boiling heat surging through our grish, the eternal temptation to resolve problems by ripping all around us into shreds… this burden challenges every one of our kind from birth until we reach the Ancestral gates of Kor.

Despite the name, Bloodlust is more than a simple desire to drink Grish, or a curable disease the vampiric leeches known as Corcitura are affected by. It is an emotional and spiritual instability that reaches into the core of our very souls, and expresses itself differently with each type of Orc. Uruks bear the infamous thirst for violence and bloodshed, a quick-temperedness that meddles with rational thought and proposes violence as the only path forward. Those of goblin descent often experience a manic fervor of malicious intellect, mind racing on how to produce destructive machine of torture and war. Even the Ologs have an ever present hunger for victuals and feasting, sated only by gorging oneself upon a freshly slaughtered kill.

Some attempt to laugh it off, or even claim Bloodlust is a blessing for warfare. This is a dishonorable lie of utmost bluntness. Every moment the urge for destructive outlets remains unsated, the Bloodlust will gradually strengthen and influence our mind. Rational actions lose relevance, morals are discarded, and eventually nothing will dissuade an orc from violence. At its worst even sworn brothers and clan members are not safe from the maddened rampage of lost brethren, and many elements of our culture are made to prevent loss of honor or channel aggression constructively.

There is one notable exception to the ways of handling Bloodlust: Mortal spells and rituals intended to force tranquility, calmness, or peace upon Descendant minds have been known to incite a catastrophic and painful backlash from Iblees' curse, drowning the unfortunate orc in emotional whiplash and convulsions until the influence is removed. Kor'garr has personally experienced this from the Bardic influence of a Ker chant… the shifts between forced tranquility and unyielding rage can drive even the most strong willed insane as every fiber of my being felt bathed in the fires of Skatchach.

In the end, Bloodlust in all names agh forms is an ever present burden upon the Orcish people. It is our duty to maintain Honorable conduct and surpass the hated curse of Iblees through our accomplishments much like our forefather Krug, instead of falling to a status no better than savage beasts.

The Ronin, Sanjuro, furiously reads the Weekli in search of some reference of his name or the first Klomp held within the fight pits.

Upon discovering that his name was absent, and that his conquest as the first champion of the Klomping Pits remained untold, he grimaced and crumpled the issue up.

"Serves better as toilet paper." He grumbles, thinking rather disappointing thoughts.

The elfess smirked as she read the Kaktuz weekli's roast of high elves, and she couldn't help but chuckle. Seeing Celianor mocked put her in a good mood. But then . . . the old Orenian senator's demeanor shifted, and she spontaneously shouted in the square of Minitz, "Zkahking Haenseni!" The words had triggered the poor elfess, and she needed a moment to calm down.
