she is baffled by the passing of time 

 

on this day, 10 years ago, i logged on to lotc for the first time, with the hopes of becoming the hero to kill iblees with my self insert character modeled after link from twilight princess.

 

it seems like just yesterday i was getting screamed at by grown men in the 2nd akovian regiment teamspeak, noobing it up in the red rose, and getting eaten by orcs in athera. now im considering what my best options are for a retirement home in my area. jesus mary and joseph

what's the most memorable RP encounter you've taken part in, anything that just sticks out in your mind?
did you experience a "culture shock" moment upon coming off hiatus? did anything about how the server change between then and now?
if there was one rule you could change, implement, or remove if you were the admin of any team, what would it be?

oh man honestly there are SO many memorable moments that have stuck with me throughout the years. there are two in particular that are really memorable to me. one was when the Enchantry, back in 2018, invaded Moz Strimoza in what we called 'the inferi-enchantry hyperwar' lmfao. was a really awesome event ran by phil, our team got absolutely mogged on by like 10 dreadknights, an army of imps, darkstalkers, and some naz prince whose name i unfortunately dont remember. while i dont think there was any winning there, we put up a really great fight. there were a lot of really cool moments where my character did some really badass things that still stick with me to this day- like greiret obliterating an entire infantry line of darkstalkers and imps with an arcanism laser beam. i remember phil emoting that the following infantry line was afraid to advance after seeing that, and i thought that was really cool, made me and my character feel rly swag. greiret was basically lotc iron man during this fight with arcanism laser beams lol, i'll never forget it. its also the event where he got the swirly magical burn on the left side of his face after a failed greater teleportation ritual which blew up in his and sarrion's faces. 

another was one that did not have that epic kind of scale, but it really stuck with me for some reason that i cant explain. it was when my charcter, sir milonir of whitehall, and @SethWolf's character walter weiss went on a patrol earlier last year. that was it. they just went on a patrol on the roads, looking for darkspawn to hunt on horseback. they chatted with a few people on the roads, investigated the woods, harassed refugees and may have inadvertently started a war, didnt find any darkspawn, and made on their way to numendil where they just shot the shit for a while, talking about what kinds of foods they liked in a tavern while speaking in new marian. was a really simple rp, but it was super engaging and just very fun. 


when i came back to lotc after like... i think 4 years almost? yeah, a LOT had changed. when i joined back in 2015, the server was so very toxic and being the worst person on the planet would get you praised - it was really awful, and maybe you remember that kind of behavior from the era. i still see some of that permeating under the surface on the forums, and in some of the attitudes players take in game, but i will say that i have seen such a total shift in what kind of behavior we will tolerate and what we won't. things feel completely different now, for the better, and i think that's really great. it seems to me people are much more sympathetic, understanding and just genuinely very kind- at least in the communities i interact in (shoutout to you rly nice and kind haensers). so that's really really awesome to see. it also seems to me now that so many people have gotten REALLY good at making engaging roleplay happen. i dont remember the last time the server felt this engaging - it certainly didnt feel that way when i left in 2019. 


o man!! last question has me stumped. i honestly dont think about that kind of thing often enough to give you a good answer, but in the spirit of trying.. something that's bugged me a lot over the years (and pushed me away from doing it with other players, often times) is how CRP often plays out on LotC. LOOC fighting is so common, and basically to be expected when you CRP- and i cant help but feel a lot of that arises from how much is open to interpretation in the CRP rules. i'd love to implement some kind of stat system for characters, sort of like S.P.E.C.I.A.L. from fallout, which factors into characters rolls. rolling intelligence for magic casting, dexterity to try dodging, strength or agility to try and hit an opponent with a sword... the current roll combat system equals the playing field for every character, which some might argue is good, but i think it leads to some silly and unrealistic scenarios sometimes. 

i played a fallout server when i was much younger in 2014 with a similar system, and i found it not only really cool to give my character stats that aligned with their strengths and weaknesses, but also left less open to interpretation. the system worked by factoring your stats into your rolls, and modifying them similar to how DND does. not sure what the formulas were, but i imagine it added/subtracted a certain number to your rolls based off your stats. im sure there would still be arguments that occur about semantics, and some people might complain about "game-ifying" lotc, but i think something like it would be a step in the right direction for CRP.

a moment i actually think back to fairly often was a moment during the Mountain/Palmreader event where @Xarkly's character Villorik was stood on some cliff's ledge, cape billowing in the wind, the butt of his glaive to the ground, and winged helmet gazing to the horizon. was a really small moment, done in about 2 emotes, but it was really epic and stuck with me. also helps that Xarkly had sent Valheim music in LOOC to make that moment even more le epic. also another moment where @Morigung-oog's character Valindra asked my character Greiret to light her dab after dissing @PrimnyaQuorum's character Averir. i thought that was rly funny. also the first time they held hands in redquill college after the whole amon thing. that was super cute ^_^

oh you are spot on the money with that. milonir is DEFINITELY my favorite character to date - it was such a shame i had to stop playing him. he was so, so fun to play every single day, even on the days where not much was really going on. so much happened in the like... 2-3 months that i played him? i really enjoyed how he went from this idiot 13 year old kid, who i thought might become a sergeant in the BSK or something as his greatest achievement, to sir milonir of whitehall, first sword of the forest of swords, avenger of lady maria weiss, devourer of kitchens, courtier of akezo, etc. the sense of progression in this character was incredible, and i miss him greatly. 

lowkey i kind of really miss nexus crafting professions from the time i joined in 2015. i forget when they were removed, and im probably definitely looking at them with rose tinted glasses bc nostalgia (forgetting the literal days people had to spend to get mythical weapons), but there was something about participating in mechanical professions every day that struck a chord with my monkey brain. it was cool to make enchantments and potions that could actually turn the tide in pvp. 

Figura's really cool and there are a lot of really awesome Figura models out there. i have wanted to get proficient at blockbench, but i dont think i have the patience for it lol. its just not my calling, i'll stick to skinning. 

its so funny you mention that, because i actually have a dark elf lady named xullirae in the works right now. ive been playing so much Baldur's Gate 3, and ive had Minthara as one of my companions - she is so cool. she has compelled me to make a very vicious and misguided, practically zealous dark elf lady. just gotta finish the skin and she'll be around >: )

im an endless yapper, and i talk about my characters all the time so i dont think there's any i dont talk about enough. there are characters that i havent explored fully though, like The Wall (Sir Milonir), or my cannibal mercenary Vraemich. i'd like to find some time to get back to those characters at some point - villainy rp has been something i'd like to try my hand at, but i am worried i wont do it well enough like some others do. good villainy is hard to do, after all.  

i think that, at some point, i'd like to take a crack at leading a community. i had a spark of huge motivation which almost led me down that route a couple months ago, but i lost motivation unfortunately and some irl factors have stopped me from pursuing it. im thinking that when i get the motivation again, likely during the summer, and my life situation permits, i might try when i am inspired. maybe a mercenary group, a family, or even a nation if it builds into something like that. 

they are good questions, its got the brain juices flowing 

i dont think i can rightly eat spray cheese, i think it might kill me. i think spray cheese could be used to refurbish furniture like how some people do with ramen on tiktok 

i think greiret (wood elf twink) would be a barista in portland oregon, or perhaps an actor since he is so dramatic. this is the fate of all twinks 
i think the wall (sir milonir) would work for the united states federal government since he is an evil demon who likes to see others suffer

remember that time back in vailor where cahir tricked kolohe into thinking that he was an official with oren during castle esterwick's defection to oren, but then actually used castle esterwick as a base for xionism and indoctrinated kolohe into his cult? that was a really fun era, i wish we got to kill tahariae

hahahaha, that was such a fun era i swear to god.. i so wish they could have interacted more, always felt like there was more story to be had between them. unfortunately i got shipped to the woods (no wifi land) for my job </3

but im doing alright, i hope you are doing well and not going crazy in nursing school <3 

to date? sir milonir always. all of my characters have had some really awesome moments, badass moments, funny moments, mundane moments and everything else in between. but sir milonir.. god. like i said earlier, literally every day with him was something new and engaging. rp with him was so funny, and it was awesome to have a character who could go from being a blubbering, overweight idiot of a man, to the great strong knight sir milonir, deadly hunter of the enemies of house weiss within a span of like 3 emotes. ive been considering making a character like him sometime, maybe his daughter. ive joked around in vc sometimes that in the time i was gone, he went off to a foreign kingdom overseas seeking glory, and earned a castle which he named whitecastle. he fell in love with, and married a noblewoman who teaches him about personal hygiene, and they had like 8 kids or something crazy. talking about him today has made me want to make this character happen sooner, so... its probably just a matter of time until i make millonira fatchikov of whitecastle. :p
