As if there's any situation where u gotta practice catholicism on lotc lol

I don't play a canonist because I don't like the way that it mischaracterizes Christianity while holding itself out as Christianity with its symbols and theology. But to say that canonism has not had this be a significant element of its RP for a long time is to deny LOTC history.

Is there any particular reason that sexism was left off? I assume it’s just an oversight, and the server is moving in a better direction with it now, but I’d figure given some of the server’s ill-history with that it’d be a good thing to tack on

you beat me to it mf

It was intentional, I hate women.

(In all seriousness, great new addition to the server. Happy Pride Month!)

seems pretty easy to avoid, if you think its questionable then dont rp it - the thought of anything being questionable or stretching close to the lines should be your warning

People have varying ideas of what is questionable and where the boundary is and should be drawn though, and oftentimes there are some questionable racial themes on LotC that have been or can be used to make an interesting roleplay environment even if in some regard it does parallel IRL discrimination. Racial conflicts do exist. Stereotypes do exist. Some races holding a social status over others in nations do exist. Some themes are unpleasant when addressed in the real world, but this is meant to be a fantasy roleplay where oftentimes inspiration is taken from real-world events to some degree to put forward an interesting narrative. Some of the most beloved fantasy works in real life take inspiration from the unpleasantness of human nature. You can't have a "brand new creative and innovative experience" by restricting creative freedoms, it just became a censored "safe and cozy" experience that you'd find in any heavily-censored platform. I think there needs to be better care taken to try to punish roleplay that is done in a way that seems it is purposefully trying to create offence at real-world groups rather than taken inspiration from ways discrimination, segregation, etc. has been implemented throughout human history.

I think, in essence, it is about not being racist towards a black human character through the same lens that one would be racist to a black person irl. It’s something that’s not just obviously a reflection of irl bigotry, it’s also not at all reflected in RP development.

Oppression and bigotry have avenues of existing in the lore still- this rule doesn’t take that away- but it instead directs it to be grounded more in the server’s fantasy elements. Racial conflicts, stereotypes, etc, are still completely fine, staff are just asking that the demarcated lines are over fantasy races or magic types or stuff that is a reflection of the server lore detached from the real world in a way (and it’s quite frankly more interesting).

I’m sure people can still RP bigotry with nuance. I do on a couple of my characters (where it is portrayed to be unequivocally negative), and the reception I’ve gotten from people has been positive because the focus is on the fantasy elements, even if the logic and emotion that drives my character’s feelings are related to the wider human experience (I don’t think anyone assumes we should just strip that away wholesale).

bro i play a 'thill supremacist who is openly racist towards other elves, you can do ur racism rp u just have to not make it awful to rp with or target people oocly because of it. all this talk of restricting 'creative freedom' just sounds like buzzwords and unrealized worry. don't be mean to people ooc because of their race or orientation, don't make it the only thing ur char is about. make it make sense irp and no one is going to rly have an issue. dont parallel irl stuff to the point someone thinks u hold ooc prejudice. that's it
