Mixed feelings all around.

Going back to the dream world is only an option if Alec is willing. Just remember that this server is supposed to be RP and not survival/freebuild. Regardless of what map we are on.

We wouldn't need to build for survival as much if the mobs weren't speedy gonzales. :P

I mean on the freebuild map. From what I saw and experienced, the mobs were fine.

My thoughts were that I got blown up in the first 5 minutes. Prime job of the GM'S! ( I'm kidding guys. Though I was blown up. )

When I went around, I didn't see 'un RP buildings'. I went from directly in front of spawn. Saw orcish fort, thrown together, but that's what they did in Asulon and Aegis. Saw a keep, which was nice looking. Saw a player made village, was nice. Saw pirate boat owned by Lime. Saw some nice stuff.

I...actually...

kinda sorta...

Had a lot of fun...Especially with old RP buddies I haven't gotten a chance to RP with in a long time.

I saw plenty of mess. Huge structures in the trees, cobblestone forts, cubes made from planks. Things you see in survival, not RP.

Shrug.

Though if that was in Asulon and wilds had no regions, it'd give druids something to do.

Eh, eh? :3

It was messy, yeah, but it was a fun sort of messy. I would've liked to meet up with the people who were making settlements, but I enjoyed myself anyway.

Asulon is better. :P But the temp server was fun.

At first I hated it: I was no rp killed several times. I was robbed often. And invisible wandering souls started to attack me

But once everything settled down and people started to follow the rules then things started to get fun. I was able to rp with new people, and make new friends, construct my own home, fend of invaders and thieves.

However, I prefer Asulon. Despite the fact I won't able to have a giant underground manor compared to dream land khel. However, I did see an increase in the amount of rp I saw...simply because people were more condensed compared to Asulon

And on the note on the un rp buildings: There was plenty. The worst was some of the tree houses I saw...as in the giant cube that was embedded into a jungle tree.

Thoughts: I too have mixed feelings about this new world. Yes, it is obviously a little unclear to some that just because the map is different, the same doesn't apply to the rules. The freedom, yes, has led to some ugly constructions, but it has made creativity easier since people can now make their own structures freely to create extra roleplay criteria. I like the lack of lore very much, and I'm not being sarcastic. I prefer scenarios where the players are free to shape their own stories and let their imaginations take flight in their roleplay without being restricted by too much history ( Really, it seems to me that everything has to revolve around 'Aeriel doing this' or 'The Creator creating that'. It's very difficult to be creative with this in mind ).

Feelings: I feel certain aspects of the temporary server should be kept ( Such as the darkened, less known lore that players can be more creative with rather than having to work on top of, thus metaphorically creating a huge pyramid that gets thinner and harder to add on to as they go ), but things such as 'World-Guard' should definitely be re-instated. The freedom to build is fun, but I'm sure a few of us remember the days of Aegis where you could barely walk 100 blocks away from King's Road without passing an ugly cobble / dirt hut, which would be a sore sight once again.

Overview: This has definately been a fun development. Despite being temporary, it's shown a lot of people the different possibilities when not bound by so many restrictions ( Aside the odd fool who just likes to run around NoRP killing people or building giant profanities all over the place ). I hope a few of the aspects of the temporary server can be kept when we revert back to Asulon, especially the lack of so many roads. This makes players have to decide whether they wish to travel to one particular place, or go out and explore rather than choose between 10 different roads and then any others that they decide to split off to.

I really enjoyed the "Dream server". I got to meet people I never would have met (as my char stays at home often.) I feel we got out of our normal "cliques" as we were thrown into chaos and had to start over. I even got accused of being a daemon from the void. It was an awesome experience, at least for me.

Passersby connecting to the server will get the wrong idea. This temporary server actually serves to deter from our standards as people run wild, even moreso than no server at all. I think we should wait it out. If I were a new member and joined in and saw all this, I'd be turned off and not likely to recommend the server to others.

I agree, and I thought of that yesterday.

But weren't there lots of messages telling people it was a temp server?

Actually I enjoyed it. Not something I would want to keep either, but it was fun. I LOVED the events that happened. And I think the event team deserves a good thank you for the events, because they were awesome.

Pros:

-It was new, and exciting

-cool events & battles

-gave RP a good flavor (since our characters were confused)

-I liked the seed

-Putting everyone in one place allowed players to interact more and converse

cons:

-After a while, the world looked a bit messy

-I would die quite regularly, losing my stuff, and starting all over

-less people online

-obviously no-RP killings happened quite often when the map was first launched

-I feel as though Wandering Souls now think that THAT is what Lotc is all about. Lotc is not usually that kind of RP server, and I felt as though after Asulon came back, they all seemed to think that this is how LOTC should be.

Question: What is the map seed? I liked that seed.

I loved it. It was much more basic, and free, and interesting. I never realized how bored, and how restricted I was in Asulon until we went to the "Dream" and it was jarring. I will be honest, I was pissed off when I came online, it seemed to be a cop out idea (it was) and it was a mess, the spawn was littered with messy below standard builds, and I was no rp killed once. However when I found a group to rp with I actually started to enjoy myself. I played as a ghost of an Old Oren soldier during the time of King Edmund and I was in a fort with an old Oren Lieutenant, and modern Oren knights. We had a fort but we eventually migrated to an area run by Tarus that had a higher concentration of players. Now this wasn't some shitty town, it had a central manor, had some houses, and another fort that my group was buildings. If we had two or three more days the town would have had fifteen houses, a castle, and a wall around it with roads and fountains.

It was interesting and spontaneous and actually entertaining and fun. To be honest if the spawn was cleared after that, and a Temple build and roads going in a certain direction things would begin to fall into place. Governments would form, people would find their ways around, towns and bad builds would be abandoned and destroyed and forced out further into the wilds. Roads would be able to expand in various directions to connect roleplay, and I would assume areas like towns and roads would be regioned and things would become even more organized. The lack of lore explaining the event was also entertaining, and helped people get more into the intrigue of inventing ideas ICly, instead of knowing the lore oocly and knowing you can't explain anything in character because you know it is wrong.

Worst Parts: No roads, shitty builds, bad looking spawn, broken plug-ins galore, no rp killing and stealing.

Best Parts: Spontaneous roleplay, more freedom from the constraints of lore, free building without filling out a number of files, freedom to explore and know you will find something new and unexpected, plots, gathering, so many things.

I honestly feel that the temp server should be an example for the Admins and those building the next map. Regions are necessary, but over regioning is not. I think we saw many of the players who actually managed to find a roleplaying location to be having actual fun for the first time in months (I know I did). Regions are needed to protect beautiful locations, but it should not protect every single thing, because at a point it does become something of a strangulation for fun. I loved being able to cut down a tree myself and gather apples to live, I enjoyed being able to craft a wooden sword again. I restrained myself from building as it would be out of character, and I enjoyed that, I know not everyone would actually abide by that and would make shitty structures, but it is a risk for people to actually have fun again.

Regions need to be put around towns, and on roads, and important locations. For the most part however, there does not need to be regions. Let people build like the did in Aegis (down to a certain Y however) and let the players deal with these crappy builds themselves. Let governments destroy unlicensed buildings, and towns themselves, with their armies instead of it being an ooc matter. That makes it more entertaining. A settlement built in the woods by outlaws is discovered and they have a prolonged conflict with the government who genuinely (ooc, and ic) did not know they were there.

Asulon is a great map, and I enjoyed it immensely, but I do feel that the Dream server was a major throwback to Aegis, and it revealed that there was quite a lot that a player like me forgot they missed about Aegis. I do think Asulon should be an example of what went wrong, not drastically wrong for the server, but it allows us to see where we mis-stepped and correct it. The golden ratio between Dream and Asulon is Aegis, I would contend that the finding the golden ratio between Aegis and Asulon is what needs to be achieved for 3.0 for players old and new to really have fun again.
