Hi guys.

Reag's asked me to post the plans or ideas for the professions plugin and get feedback from you guys before anything's fully put together. We obviously don't want it to be grindy or too MMOish. So please, be critical. This plugin is for you guys so your opinion counts.

Suggestion 1 - Reags idea

Commands:

Roleplaying opportunities

Profession listed on character card

‘Achievement System‘ based allocation - choose your original profession via crafting, or via magical tomes ala’ learning a magicspell spell

Underlying Commands?

Would want these things done through IC interactions rather than inline commands.

/profession [prof]

/prof help

/prof set

/prof reset

/prof forget

description: used to forget a specific profession

originally planned to give this to ‘shamans’ as a player ability to let other players forget magic / learn different magic.

subprofessions have dependencies on the profession

each player has a quota to learn two subs and one main profession.

Custom Alterations and minor changes:

Custom/ Alterations to normal drops/crafting

Diamond ore mines to -> diamond ore

Refined by a jeweller

‘Bejewelled’

Diamond tools/armor made by combining a gold tool with diamonds

Gold tools/armor made by ‘gilding’ iron tools

Redstone ore -> ore

refined by tinker

Leaves - chance for sticks and apples

sticks to planks

no punching trees for logs

smoothstone brick + 4 gunpowder = cracked brick

The necessity of healers

Hunger does not heal - requires an apothecary, or a place of healing

Respawn with 1 heart

Harvesting Skills:

Harvesting skills?

no restrictive, grindy skills, a tool system

it’s less about grinding and more about using the right tool for the job.

Yet you want to see some variation rather than everyone using diamonds.

Hands - the best way to pick flowers ; )

Wooden - Destruction / minimal drops [fells trees, stone, sand, dirt, gravel/flint]

Stone -

Iron -

Gold - Enchantable

Diamond -

- pick [mining] - already restricted based on type in vanilla

- shovel [digging] - no vanilla restrictions

- hoes [farming]

trimming [shears] (leaves, vines, flowers)

- rod [fishing]

- sword [skinning]

shears [shearing sheep]

more non-meat drops from mobs

-axe [butchering]

more meat from mobs

-axe [treechopping]

Suggestion 2 - Discussed by various people in TS

The thing is, we want players to RP their skills more so, for example, we want a chef to RP a chef, not having them able to make their own diamond armor, you know? It makes none if very little sense, or we don't want people being master of all trades. An idea we discussed after then would be perhaps have no restrictions in the plugin but buff up the rules. Saying that if you're caught, essentially powergaming your character even moreso than now so, if you're found to be playing a child character who makes his own food and tools or, the chef example above. You'll be formally warned and then even banned. BUT then, have a plugin that serves as an RP expansion of the vanilla system.

You will still be able to 'make everything' with no vanilla restrictions but if you, for example chose chef as a profession, you would be able to make items that only trained chefs can. They would have no mechanical benefit. No buffs, no OP wepons, just RP tools so. A chef might be able to make, I don't know, carrot cake, chocolate cake, as well as normal cake. These items would have ONLY rp value.

I don't like it, sure it makes it more realistic, but it's really just a pain in the ass for most of the playerbase. That's just my opinion, and what I've heard from others. :/

We don't regain health from hunger and we respawn with 1 heart? That was already tried by Vaq, and it was awful.

Quick question: If you don't choose to become a locksmith and you are a donor will you not be able to use LWC?

Also as a whole I don't like it. I do like that we are not restricted on what tools we use etc.. Although it seems that there are too many sub-professions and only picking two will mean you cannot master a profession.

I agree that a plugin is needed however this is worse then Vaq's. A mason.... Come on!

Edit: Just like what Jorgan said too. What about off peak players?

Could be possible to reduce the amount of proffesions into fewer, because it can be a great handicap for many people who play outside of the main peak time, if they impossibly can fetch that baker or that armorsmith?

Honestly, it looks silly.

*Tanner - Leather Armor, saddles

*Fletcher - bow, arrow

*Mason - #bricks, #stone, furnace 6 slabs, stone bricks blocks, sandstone, stairs,

‘cracking’ bricks with gundpowder

*Artist - portraits, maps

*Bookbinder - paper, books, bookcases.

*Tailor - Wool, Dyes, Dying of wool /armor, beds, portraits, cactusgreen#

*Shipwright - Boats

*Watchmaker - compass, clock, button, switch

*Glassblower/gaffer - #glass bottles, glass panes, bottles

Alright these are just niche classes that people dont rp as. I dont think the people who rp these niche classes appreciate it as well. Why would you ever put into restrictions for these? Please for the love of the server, dont go back into step one. This looks even worse than Vaq's skill plugin.

Honestly? We know what happened last time so many restrictions were introduced.

I say no to a lot of these things. I want to RP, not be killed sporadically on account of a ridiculously heavy-handed plugin.

Artisan/ Crafts-person

chests, wooden stairs, wooden slabs, trapdoors

fences, fence gates, wooden door, ladders, switches, stone tools

Artisan sub-professions (choose 2)

This is far too restrictive, as are the sub-professions.

The necessity of healers

Hunger does not heal - requires an apothecary, or a place of healing

Respawn with 1 heart

Oh, god no. This is what got me with the last skill plugin. I actually left the server for a while because I was unable to RP with anybody due to being killed every ten minutes.

Blacksmith sub-professions (choose 2)

\* Toolmaker - Iron Tools, shears

* Bladesmith - Swords, Axes

* Armourer - Iron Armor

*Jeweller -diamonds from ore, encrusting ‘diamond tools/armour’ jukebox,

*diamond block to diamond

* Gilder - #gold - nuggets to gold, gold to nuggets, gold block, Iron tools/armor to gold

* Tinkers - #redstone ore

I agree. I remember it took me like 1000 trees just to build my average sized house. I didn't want to level in woodcutting because it was a waste. I truthfuly prefer the way it is now.

This is by far the most restrictive plugin I've ever seen.

People would practically be useless unless they had 30+ people around them. Entire organizations probably couldn't run.

I... dislike it. I honestly prefer how it's working now, with no crafting restrictions.

As time has shown, most of the community dislikes crafting restrictions, and I honestly think the only way to get a profession plugin that people like will be to give perks rather than restriction. For example, everyone can get 4 planks from a log, or cut trees, but a lumberjack can get 6 planks, and have a chance at double/triple drops.

IMO, we simply don't have the playerbase to support a restriction-based skill system.

Yea, that sounds good. Everyone can do it, but just people with that skill can do better.
