The Suicide Of Brandon Marsh

Brandon Marsh climbs up the ladder to the top of the small
wall fortification surrounding the Adunian city. Rope in hand, as he climbs up,
reaching the top finally, placing the rope down. He looks across the landscape
outside of the small town, seeing the dwarven cities in the distance, and to
the back of him, a city in the making. He sighs a tad bit, looking back at the
rope, knowing what he must do.

He leans out of the canopy of the small guard’s tower, the
one left of the gate. He ties one end of the rope to the edge of the overhang,
letting the rope hang down. Looking at this, he tries a hoop in the rope with enough
space to wrap around his neck. He looks at his work, before stepping back,
thinking for a moment.

He runs down into the city, grabbing a quill, ink, and
multiple sheets of paper. He enters Han’s office building, making sure no one
was in there, as he begins to write multiple notes:

To My Loving Father, Thordin

I know I have made many mistakes throughout my life, after
betraying you and never actually loving you as I should. I failed you father, I
am dearly sorry. I will always love you father, always. You raised me since I was
born, taught me to walk, taught me to talk, and taught me to love. You should
me the world; you opened my eyes to what was there. You gave me everything, yet
I gave nothing in return. I failed you father, I am so sorry

I will always love you,

Bran

To My Uncle Gideon

Gideon, you have led our family through tough times, through
the thick and thin. You never gave up hope; you led us to greatness with the
other Adunians. Uncle, I will always love you, and may the clan grow throughout
the ages.

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

To My Uncle Audin

Audin, you were my favorite uncle by far. Just don’t tell
the others that. You were always the faithful one, the one who led me back to
the Old Faith. You showed me what it meant to be an Adunian, to be a Marsh. I
hope you will become a true Father one day.

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

To My Uncle Jacob

Jacob, you were always an interesting one. I never actually
understood you, but I loved you anyhow. Just try not to get into any other
fights with frost witches.

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

To My Cousin Erik

Erik… You are the most perverted man I know. You can never
stay on one woman, even for one day. You cheat, you lie, and you break hearts.
And that is why I love you. Keep doing what you’re doing.

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

To Clan Wodesome

It was nice being able to see our cousins again after so
long. Chieftain Erik Wodesome, I hope your clan grows with my family, and may
we even grow larger together. Blood is thicker than Wine, remember that.

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

To Konrad Heinsreich

You were probably the better earl out of all of them. Just
saying, you had the most unique accent I have ever seen, and I’ve been around
Anthos a few times. I hope good fortunes to your clan, and may your ship still
sail. I will never forget that boat ride with you

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

To Elros Leydon,

You trained me since I was seven years of age. You knew me
inside and out. You trained me hard; you made me who I was today. Forgive me,
Elros, after everything I did. I hope this reaches you.

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

To Caln McHarnish,

Caln, I am sorry. You were right, Adunia was the wrong
choice. I betrayed you; I threw away everything you ever gave me. Caln, I saw
you as a second father, and I loved you as such. There is not a single day I
regret what I did. I should have stayed with the rangers. I should have known.

Goodbye,

Brandon Marsh

Finishes his letters, his hand aching, as he places down the
quill, looking outside the office building. Tapping his fingers on the wood
desk, he thinks for a moment, before writing one last note.

Dear Lachlan,

Lachlan, you were always the favorite picker. May you burn
in the nether where you belong.

With lots of love, Brandon Marsh

Smirking, he grabs the notes, heading back to the canopy. He
places the notes next to the ledge, as he wraps the hoop of the rope around his
neck, looking down to the ground.

“May the Three guide may actions… My Family, my friends, all
of them….”

He steps into the air, the air rushing to him as his neck
pulled by the rope.  His body flails for
a moment, before he stops, him giving to last of his life before dying,
slipping away from the real world.

Erik finds the note along with the rest of the recipients and reads it slowly, a frown growing on his face like a fungus. When Erik finished, a single tear ran down his face into his beard. He does not search for the body, it would be too horrible. Erik sets down the note and wipes the stain from his face, turning away to go out the door. A foot away from the doorway, he stops.

"He... Was so young."

Gideon stands and watches the body dangle. He thinks of all the times they spent together and sheds a tear he walks away without a word and merely mourns in the Clan Hall.

Gavin stomps his way to the tower and up the ladder. He finally finds the point where Brandon had tied his rope and saws away at it with the dagger of his. After a minute or so the rope begins to snap up and twirl until eventually allowing the limp body to drop, producing a lifeless thump.Gavin sheathes the dagger and makes his way down the ladder and to the body. He hoists him up and prepares for the funeral.

Heading on her way back into the world of Anthos, Raissu notices that something is dangling from the guard tower . She looks up and quickly realizes what it is. As quickly as the tears came, her hands cover her mouth in disbelief. She keeps shaking her head like it never happened, that is not real. Raissu closes her eyes for a few moment and then opened them hoping that would end the nightmare. It was no nightmare though. it was the real deal, the reality sinking in like a poisonous venom of a snake. Raissu, not able to take anymore of the sight runs out of the Adunian City as fast as she could. Eventually, she would come to stop and sit under tree. There she pulls her legs up to her chest, places her arms on her knees with her head down still crying. She whispers to herself.

"This cannot be. Why, how could of this happened?"

She looks up,still crying, staring into nothingness, whispering to herself still.

"Its...Its all my fault. I just have a feeling that is my fault that he is now gone. The last friend I thought I had. Gone...."

Local children and homeless men, come by the body assuming it a fake creation of paper concealing food or better yet candy, they immediately pick up sticks and start whacking the body hoping food or candy falls out of it.

*Haudenfox hears about brandons death through many people. He sends his bird to the location of his death. It reads*

"Dear Brandon,
You where always there for me when I was in clan marsh. Above all, you where my favorite. I am sorry that you died so young. You where the only marsh that I would have maybe regretted killing. Brandon, you where a great young boy. I hope you do great up in the heavens, and may you always rest in peice. I do disagree with your choice of suicide, though I was a bit disapointed when there was no note for me. I wish we could have been on the same side. I will always be your brother, adopted or not.

- HFR"

Robert sits in the MacRoss Clan Hall, his brothers and cousins sitting in silence. News had spread of the Man's Suicide, and it irked them.

Caln McHarnish receives the note from a man dressed in the Marsh kilt. After killing the Marsh, he takes the letter and goes to his keep in seclusion. He cracks open the seal and reads it, preparing for what insults are to come, but there are not insults only the death of a friend. A single tear drop slides down Caln's cheek and onto the paper. Brandon might have betrayed them, but he was just a boy. Maybe Caln did have a heart after reading this note. Maybe it is possible for him to forgive traitors. Brandon was like a son to him at a point and now, like his other deceased son, he was killed in the hands of the Marshs except they were his own. Pity the fool who calls himself a man but dies a boy. Caln rises from his chair and crumbles the paper to send to the flames. Pity the Marshs who call themselves men for they shall die as boys. Turning his back to the flames, Caln walks out of his room.

Erik reads the note he received, shedding a few tears as he reads it...

To push away the horrible thought of Brandon, he makes a final witty comment.

"No... There was that one that lasted two days..."

Having held the funeral not three days later, the Archfather sighed, dark bags under his eyes from the long vigils he kept,  staying awake as long as he could, to oversee the body's ascent into the Heavens. He tapped his staff finally and murmured to himself,

"It is done. May the Shadow take his Shadow, the Lifebringer guide his soul, and he join Morrigaen in the Cosmos above. I knew you not, but many others did. At least we do not frown on suiciders. Life is not for all."

Edgar walks over to the funeral, all but burnt out, tapping at the top with the bottom of his staff. The lid caves in, crumbling, only ashes stuck together. He peers inside to see an all charred out,  and empty, coffin. He sighs and waves a hand for a few men to clean up the ashes, divide them into thirds, and scatter them in the nearby forest. "Three watch over us all."
