Amusingly Hunwald, in your own unofficial poll, more people voted RP default than PvP default. And that's without the third option. Don't start saying that more people from PvP default would be voting for the third option here...

I saw Gaius's system as rp with situational Pvp ._.

Anyhow, glad my +1s are back for the day Lego, you earned one.

I am going to have to tackle this in a special way. Stay tuned for full coverage.

Alright! Enough! If you have posted your opinion its time to move on and not bicker. I will start issuing warnings.

It would be cool if someone from the pro RP side present a well reasoned response categorically addressing each of blindmind's or Gaius's awesome points! I'd like to be reconvinced of the validity of RP fighting as default but I'm really doubting that will happen now.

If PVP wins, everyone with poor computers sort of get thrown under the bus. Means we can't play combat characters, which is a real drag for a lot of us. I rarely get any combat roleplay anymore, but when I do, i thoroughly enjoy it. I'd hate for PVP to become the norm, as it would take away from good possible roleplay.

If the person powergames, report them and they'll get a strike or ban, VA revoke, or some other punishment. Or, you know, you can actually take the time to explain to them how they are powergaming and how they can improve.

Yes sir. This was my argument in the Orc chat, and I managed to get people to side with me. Also, people outside the United States have a much harder time, especially the Australians, who even get chat lag.

Proof of orcs siding with me:

[8:25:34 AM] Sir RocketHaul ಠ_ರೃ /Luke: I don't want PvP default :/

[8:25:53 AM] Sir RocketHaul ಠ_ರೃ /Luke: Mostly because my computer is a piece of ****

[8:26:12 AM] Sir RocketHaul ಠ_ರೃ /Luke: That struggles to get over 10 FPS

[8:26:27 AM] Sir RocketHaul ಠ_ರೃ /Luke: And the lag that comes fromliving in Australia

[8:26:46 AM] tekelle.: ^

[8:27:03 AM] Ahmed: You and me both pal

I’ve noticed that the main problems of why our PvP friends don’t like role-play fighting are these key-factors.

•    Power gaming

•    Meta gaming

Hm.. now  those do seem like good reasons but how about this if you fear

them so much why don’t you stop them? Wait you may ask we can stop that

sort of thing!? Yes.. yes you can, but first we must understand how it

comes about.

Where do these two things stem from well in truth they stem from one or two people.

how can that be I’ve seen far too many of these just to be one or two!

Well my friend, from those people it spreads usually via the new people

to join, depending on the places you go people learn from example and so

forth it spreads like fire, but if we were to set up a role-play

friendly “starter areas” almost training them in a sense down the path

of great role-play. All you need to do to stem this is to set a example,

if you pvp how do you expect such things to stop without the whole

role-play fight aspect removed?

But you may say there is always going to be that one guy spreading the

bad role-play everywhere.. well true, but if there is more spreading

good role-play conflict fights you’re going to out weigh that one guy.

All I’m saying is that if you don’t like the hour long

role-play fights and the power-gaming/meta don’t hold it above the system to

justify another fix the system and all reason you have for disapproving

role-play fights is “Poof!” gone.

Well, Yimmy, you have a very good computer, as you yourself have stated. Many of us do not, and as such, suffer badly.

If the server goes to PvP default, I know personally that I will be leaving, and not touch the server. I will still be on the forums, but never ingame. I am not going to have to suffer my chars who have been trained for lots of my own personal OOC time loing to those who simply have a better computer and/or computer, who hasn't trained at all. I do not want to have to stop RPing my chars as they should be, considering that my computer rarely manages over 10 FPS, and as a consequence, I won't be able to win any PvP fights.

It is simply unfair to those without the money for a good computer, to those who have bad connections and can barely hit anything, to those who have spent much of their own OOC time to perfect their character's skills in combat, and especially to those who enjoy RP, and RP well.

Good day to all, and I hope to god that my vote can sway the poll in favour of RP, for the enjoyment of many.

To those with technical issues, you could /tell the player(s) you're about to engage in a fight with that you have connection/FPS issues in an attempt to settle for an RP fight instead.

If they refuse... well, you're boned - but there's always a way to RP your loss :idk:

The RP and PvP percentages are close enough that it might warrant a compromise using Gaius' system. I wouldn't mind it.

It seems to be that the choices are full hot turkey and full cold turkey. With Gaius' point being the mid ground. Even if we went cold turkey we would still have exceptions to pvp combat, so surely if that is the case then Gaius' point merely builds off of that idea by making it a bit more defined and less of a full conversion from what we have. The ability to decide if your city is a PVP or RP conflict city for an example. The extention of exempt from PVP default for thieves and the likes.

I like the mid-ground because it has both players opinions in mind. Instead of just going all in... or all out.

I cba to read through 40+ pages of comments that basically go "This is a RP server" or "Pvp wont hurt you, you can still rp combat!"

I just want to give a small little view on two of my greatest moments of rp combat.

1) Aegis

When Jack was 55 years old, growing as a old ranger, he stumbled upon a undead necromancer, and 2 cultist minion. A brief conversation was held, but my imagination was in overdrive. They were on higher ground, and was really talking to me arrogantly. I knew three against one would mean certain doom, so I played it cautiously. The cultist then lead another cultist away, leaving the armed cultist to fight me.

The cultist was clad in leather and had a diamond sword(a rarity in aegis times)

I had a iron sword, and absolutely no armour.

He asked me for any last words, and I replied "None". We rushed at each other admist the night storm, and fought furiously for only a short span of 1 minute or less. But that was so fulfilling, my adrenaline was pumping for at least 10 minutes.

The point is not the pvp, its the culmination of the rp that was set in pvp. It was so real, my vision was disjointed(mc kiting), my heart rate was increasing. You just dont get the same thrill from rp fights which is more akin to playing chess with questionable people. PVP is set in stone, rp fights always have something here or there.

2) Asulon

My friend was possessed by a enderman(dont ask, it was approved lore), and granting him a bipolar disorder. It seems like he was sporadically turning hostile, and one time while we were walking around the resource town in hanseti, he had one of his 'attacks'

His voice became hoarse and craggy, his eyes turning deep purple, pupils vanishing.

He was insane, he asked me a bunch of random questions that were incredibly difficult. I actually perspired a little, like a test before death. He smiled widely at the last question, and said "You failed."

Armour as deep as midnight encased the body, and a sword rose from the ground, cascaded in spikes (he just mcly equiped it). He drew it from the ground, and stated he would free me from ignorance.

He had full diamond, I only had a diamond sword and iron.

We agreed oocly to kill off our characters if we lost the pvp battle. Then battle commence.

Admist the falling snow and the sounds of our boots crunching the layers of ice and rock, it was a beautiful moment. I was so relieved when I saw his mass of items, sprawled in the shape of his body on the ground.

I just want to say, pvp gave me some of the most amazing rp on this server. So please dont think pvp as shallow.

The Riceman Always delivers. While I was against it at first, and I probably won't want it forever, (And I do think Gaius's suggestion, with some tweaking, would be the happiest medium) I'm open to trying the Aegis system for  a bit. I can say for sure the issues I see with RP fighting, but things like minas or die situations tend to be exaggerated for the PvP system. They've got flaws, but at this point I suppose it's just the lesser of two semi-evils.

Why don't we just try it out? For a week or two? Just to see how things go. If you'd all look through your tears and QQing you might actually have a little fun, who knows. Pixel swords ho!

Quick example of my (very) few experiences with PvP:

1) I was in the Orcish lands, stalking some orcs foolishly because I was bored. Bog's goblin? wanted to use my character to test siege equipment, another orc said I should be let free. We came upon a solution to 'klomp', and I ended up winning. Instead of a long, drawn out fight, we had a minute of intense pvp that was fun and satisfying.

Our characters laughed and continued on their way, and we didn't have any problems of an hour-long RP fight session.

Am I the only person who has FUN rp fighting? Maybe it's because I don't fight with my opponent in Ooc about every little move he/she makes and I'm not afraid to die and loose a few pixels but still... The plugin looks really interesting with the amount of things that will be in it and I'd really like to thank Telanir for doing this in a few months when others before him couldn't do it in a year.
