Your View: Map Expansion

I think the goal of LOTC Staff should be to get players situated on the mainland ASAP. The point of the server is to immerse players in roleplay, is it not? I'd be fine with creating new lands that were mostly event and dungeon based. That could be interesting. Although if this were to happen, I think it'd be best if we started working to remove smaller towns all over Anthos and fill the capitals. I do understand everyone wants their own city, but the lack of RP in the capital regions is an issue. And there are RP ways of doing this. Abresi has become quite the hub since Salvus was closed during the war.

This!

-snip-

Salvus honestly wasn't just a small town. It was the largest hub on the server. The only reason Abresi is populated is because Salvus was killed and all of its patrons and citizens were moved.

The only way to get people onto the mainland is to give them something to do. You can roleplay, but only in certain cities, and only during certain timezones. Otherwise, you're just gonna be sitting there twiddling your thumbs while you wait for another player to show up.

I am ALL FOR unregioning most of the mainland, but until the rest of the team agrees, we can't really go forth with it. It's also difficult because we would be 'stealing' land from nations. Technically it'd still be theirs to own in RP, just they couldn't stop players from building on it without intervening in RP. Which would be nice, but I see a lot of complaining arising.

Sink the wilds and then add new land on the mainland :3

Indeed, we need to centralize roleplay first, before we can begin developing the world itself. Anthos had great potential, yet it did not turn out as most of us had hoped. The problem was not the map, not the distance between the capitals, but how nations failed at controlling their settlements properly, thus cracking up the potential. If we wish to move forward with new content, we must fix what already is.

Lowering the amount of towns and random settlements is vital and important, which will result in people moving to the capitals, providing more roleplay, and interactivity. To be honest, if it was all up to me, I would get rid of every settlement except from the capitals, and start from scratch in a more controlled manner.

As for the new lands, they should in no way be up for grabs by any nation, other serving a purpose as an exploration opportunity, and resource gathering. It should also be free build, so that explorers can set up their own camps as they please. In addition to this, there should be a risk in traveling there, which should also prevent people to settle there. By that I mean destruction of any permanent settlements, attacks etc. My two cents.

The same issue with timezones exists in smaller settlements and it goes even further, as people who sometimes stay up later have little to no interaction with those in the smaller towns and settlements. Focusing on making RP hubs the capital cities in Anthos stands as the only way to really foster trade, RP growth, etc. Although what I currently find limiting is when it's not encouraged by the player base or government within the capitals. A lack of guild halls, open shops, etc.I suppose staff could always immerse themselves in politics to further this goal, but that may be kind of odd.  Again, just my two cents.

2nd large landmass! Like Asulon! Have it far enough away and make an event when its found! DEN! HAVE DES HORRIBLE 5 FEET LONG WASPS DAT WE GOTTA FIGHT AND DESTROY! I love that idea :D

P.S. I thought salvus was cool with the tons of RP in it until Mr. Oren came tah knock it down. Now its a little harder to find RP.

Raze unused cities first. Expand Anthos later.

Better Idea...

Add an extra continent for exploration? Extra plot that could intertwine with Antag to add Protag?

No protag's being added, we are the protag.

The ET has a plan to this effect. It's nothing like more land to colonise but it does involve new areas to explore... more on this should become apparent in a few months.

MOAR LAND YES! :determined:for more events and ruins (I LOVE RUINS)

If someone wants to make a settlement, they should got a good reason for it.

Personally i don't want to see random dirt houses everywhere (Just a example) :hmm:

Ordinarily I'd say yes. But that would lead to more empty settlements... So unfortunately, I'm gonna say it isn't the best idea.

Empty settlements are the result of players not giving their cities the TLC they need to grow. Perhaps give your fellow players the motivation to stick with one character and one town instead of having two, three, four alternate characters that are all involved in different towns and organizations :P

Basically, what the title asks.

By map expansion, I mean adding new land/areas to explore/build in. Think of it as a content patch rather an expansion release.

What would you like to see, if so? Or perhaps you're against the idea entirely?

Let us know!

We've got some ideas in the work but feedback is always appreciated.

I think that would be a great idea then i could probably make a town of my own :D

In my opinion, you just shouldn't add any more yet. We're spread out enough as it is.

You say that settlements will be built either way, and my goodness, you're a GM. Use your powers to intervene and improve the server, not let it dwindle.

I've said time and time again, for the past four months, to the gm team and general public, that I would like to see the map unregioned. I've brought forth a few areas that I'd like to see unregioned but nothing really came of it.

That decision, that power, is up to the admins, not the gms, and certainly not me alone.

I don't see anything wrong with abandoned settlements. Players want to live and RP with those they like. No issue there. Perhaps if nation leaders did not give their land away like candy, there wouldn't be so many settlements. There's like a small town-sized plot of land going to each noble house of Oren.
