@Auriel_ You joined in 2016. A lot of us have rly strong memories about 2012-2014, even if maybe the maps weren’t top tier. They were amazing in their own ways. And we have better tools to do better on a new map these days, y’know?

the best maps have been built around nations, like Athera having those nice dwarf mountains and the human capital on a river, Anthos sculpting entire areas around capitals and their sprawl. A map that’s just been arbitrarily worldpainted with all the capitals on flat plains is going to suck structurally. there’s no natural direction you’re going to go and the terrain is extremely bland and uninspiring. that’s exactly what we got with the next map, all the interesting looking terrain is in the wilderness and there’s this truly dumbass lottery for who gets what plot

if you ever played anthos or athera think about how deliberately the roads were built, taking you past a bunch of landmarks where people could naturally rp in and around. about 2 hours of combined thought + effort went into painting a “ring road” around the cloud temple. it’s hostile to the natural movement of players and unintuitive, and it looks bad
