I would really disagree with you impure, I would say fantasy is almost always done incorrectly compared to sci-fi. Sci-fi is an advancement of culture, history, and science whereas fantasy is attempting to recreate it in a different world. Fantasy usually does a very poor job of creating feasible cultures from scratch, because fantasy writers are not normally skilled historians, political and social scientists. With sci-fi, its simply a future version of a world which can already exist, and its easy to extrapolate problems our current society has.

There was way too much fanservice and nods to Episode IV. What's more is the movie felt so rushed, despite this, there were still filler segments like when Han had to deal with those death gangs and octopus monsters. I wasn't particularly fond of the pacing, the kind of glaring plot holes, the recycled plot, and some things that just felt shoehorned in. With that said, I loved the small comedy bits, they felt natural, and I was always pleasantly surprised by them. BB-8 is awesome, and brings a lot more to the table than the robot comedy relief before in my opinion. Overall I enjoyed it but it doesn't seem particularly deserving of all the hype it's getting.
