Coffins fucking sucked genuinely I think it is the worst mechanic ever introduced to the server 

Cannibalism was better but also sucked 

Motivated people to be insane oocly like they were moonstruck (This was a huge part)

Largely contributed to people going inactive and becoming active only when they were threatened/wanted to threaten people they like

Did not contribute significantly to story outside of very very select playerbases

Players often self imploded and would rather spite others OOCly than contribute to a story (leading to things like leaking secrets of themselves, tattling on others, metagaming info etc. without any IC basis other than "Dont like them all of the sudden" "Oh heres my new epic character btw can i JOin ur group :DDD" )

Constant victim complexes brought on by eachother or themselves despite constant ST intervention at explicit player request, be that (extremely favourable) enforcement of lore, amendments, additions, or further 

Changes begged for (or resisted) by the community which were then inversed respectively after implementation

Caused rifts, issues, and fights that still persist even the better part of a year after it's shelving

all this basically applies to both striga and siliti outside of coffings/cannibalism which is siliti specific

i love vampires so fucking much i love vampires and their aesthetics and storytelling and roleplay its by far my favorite genre or trope but holy shit does it attract people to the story in such a toxic and unhealthy way that it makes it worse for pretty much everyone, people so often crab bucket and drag one another down to this level because it becomes the ooc-meta level appropriate to roleplay at and has a huge negative feedback loop 

i wont be considering rewrites for either and think corcitura serves as a more than ample replacement which hasnt made people behave like they were suddenly mind controlled completely bonkers outside of like 1 or 2 instances (which were dealt with pretty quickly by others in roleplay and spurred no issue otherwise), whilst both lores weren't necessarily the issues i think the nature of the lores and the people who played them/attracted (Not in total, just by in large) made them extremely negative pieces for the server outside of worldbuilding/event narrative.

some p decent advice here 

it mostly comes down to acknowledging narrative for your character is going to be more real and important to you than anybody else. how would your character really feel? how would they manifest that? 

I had an ex who had a big problem picking at her nails whenever she was anxious. It wasn’t something I noticed until i spent a lot of time with her, and that’s something that reflects on characters too. Anethra, my high elf, would pick her nails a lot. It was something I emoted that most people picked up on as just filling dead air for emotes and padding space. But those moments when you’re really in tune with your character and showing subtlety are what’s really special. It’s harder to do on a cooperative narrative like lotc than in books, but it also allows that unique opportunity where you aren’t in control of what other people say. 

Garden your character and let them grow. let them surprise you and think in depth about quirks, characteristics, morals, boundaries your character may have. Anethra never once stepped on a gold line because it was morally beneath her. She never let her palms get cut at gates because it’d scar and she’d feel ugly. Whenever someone slighted her she’d give the same smile or laugh. People will follow interesting characters and want to learn more about them. Playing someone who tells you their full story on their skin and name is someone who can’t quite match that because you just kind of know who they are. 

some great advice here though and it translates across mediums and types of storytelling. hope you have fun 😊

yub sorry it got left out i’ll prioritize it if u apply again but it’s cool if not seems like things have been working out

ill be stuck dming forever but Medium/Spiritualist are so fucking cool dude. like i already love pathfinder because of its allowance for complexity over dnd (which takes a special kind of nerd, its not nearly as open or user-oriented as dnd is), but the occult classes allow for such an awesome character-focused class that really allow you to explore different ideas and paths, particularly as a medium or spiritualist seance's/connects with a different type of spirit that allows them to change what they do and be a different person. super fun

dnd-wise i think gameplay wise sorcerer offers so many fun options to tackle encounters, but paladin is probably one of my favorites to roleplay because it changes not only the character dynamic, but the party dynamic, and really encourages you to roleplay and think/act as your character does, rather than just as a vessel for it. Warlock is really close behind because its very much similar and allows you a ton of options for how you want to make and use your character, and how they behave.

@Narthokif this were true then nevaehlen losing a war only to make nevaehlen 2 across the map a couple months later defeats your whole point. the purpose of conquest being reimplemented was to prevent the 7 norland meme back from like Atlas but it’s just remanifested. i think spamming realm creation actively hinders and splinters roleplay and leads to less integrated roleplay due to groups only interacting with their isolated little group. not to mention no way in hell someone is warring a tiny one tile nation across the map for how expensive it is and how fruitless actually doing it proves. 

theres 3 more apps to be accepted in sub whenever they time comes around to get to them and i don’t think we will see three more wars to clean up places nobody has visited. Ravenmire i checked on last night and it had 8 lines of roleplay in the last week, all of which were a dude talking to himself.
