🌟 THE FACES OF ELVENESSE 🌳
An Appearance Guide for New Players for the nation of Elvenesse
The Crown of Elvenesse is home to a wide-variety of elves from all different backgrounds. Primarily made up of the Almenodrim of Aegrothond and the Mali’ame of Siramenor, our playerbase boasts a bounty of well-written culture and unique characters created by our community. We're also home to a smaller group made up of the Mali'ker, children of Luara.
In this guide, we will show you how to create your Elvenesse persona, be it choosing their skin tone, their eye color, or the style of their clothing. Below, we will go into detail on how you can make your persona standout in the crowd!
Skin Tones
The basis of any character is the color of their skin, which can denote the culture from which they were born. In Elvenesse, we have two different spectrums that players can use to customize their characters.
The Almenodrim
The Almenodrim are much paler in their skin palette, primarily caucasian-white. Their skin can tan depending on their time spent sea-faring, or via their respective bloodline.
The Mali’ame
The Mali’ame often bear tanned skintones, which darken depending on their seed. Some are lighter in shade, whilst some can be chestnut brown or teak in color. Other shades of wood elven skin can also be akin to umber, mocha, or even hickory in their coloring.
The Mali'ker
Some Mali'ker also reside within Elvenesse, who bear skintones ranging from a pale grey to onyx-black.
Hair and Eyes
Eyes
The eyes of your elf are important to their backstory, be it involving an established house/seed or created entirely from scratch. An Almenodrim often bears grey eyes, rarely taking on a different color otherwise. The Mali’ame are more likely to be seen possessing blue, green, brown, and yellow-gold eyes. Colors such as red, purple , and white-silver are extremely rare occurrences among the two larger groups, but more-likely possible among the Mali'ker of the city.
Hair
Elvenesse is home to an expansive palette of hair colors. Black hair is shared between both cultures, whilst the Mali'ame boast various shades of brown and auburn-red. The Almenodrim, however, bear a slightly more unique genepool with their blonde and gold-white hair. The few Mali'ker within Elvenesse boast white and grey hair as well.
Clothing
The fashion of Elvenesse is unique, in that it spans a variety of different trends and sometimes denotes either the rank or family that one’s character belongs to. The Almenodrim often adorn themselves in heavier cloaks and tunics, sharing some of their style with that of the human race. They also often wear ornate ornamentation, such as circlets, jewelry, and rings. These elves often wear shades of red, orange, green, and blue.
The Mali’ame are more inclined to wear more-revealing garments, often with the intent of showing off their tattoos or physique. They will also add small details to their attire, such as feathers, painted beads, antlers, and bones. The children of the forest also refrain from wearing footwear, if it can be helped. They often wear shades of green, red, purple, orange, blue, yellow, and brown.
Markings and Tattoos
Though uncommon among the elves of Almenodrim, the Mali’ame commonly mark their skin with tattoos or markings to denote things like their achievements, their seed, or their devotion to the Aspects or the Mani. A proper guide done by @WuHanXianShi14 explains the meaning of these tattoos and markings, so a link to that will be provided here. It is encouraged to consider adding these tattoos to your skin, to add history and flavor to your new persona, though not required by any means if you desire to earn them via roleplay.
In conclusion, this guide is meant to show you the details our players put into their personas, to help make them as unique and individual as possible. We hope this inspires you going forward, so that you can add your newly-made elf to our growing ranks and welcoming community!
