But now it's much easier for people to learn powerful mage spells to pvp with instead of using iron swords. And you know EVERYONE will.

Not true my friend, don't be too hasty with your assumptions! :)

Will we still be able to RP magics if we don;t wanna use the plugin?

It's going to happen. Cut them some slack. The point has been made and Telanir acknowledged it. We don't need everyone go after the same thing by saying the same thing

The only thing I find as bad is that it's based on meditating over land. Void don't work like that.

Yeah, it does. You just need to use your imagination. Best place to observe ice is a tundra, best place to observe wind is on a windy mountaintop, etc.

I look forward to seeing how people attempt to abuse this open plugin in future endeavors within a PvP default, raid-esque environment.

Do you get a kick out of being a pessimist all the time?

Brilliant work, Telanir. But wardog and Sala do have a fairly valid point.

To take from the few and spread equally amongst everybody, what's that called again? Oh yeah, communism ;)

But seriously, I expect many unhappy faces. As much as we may hate to admit it, the old magic system (where all the mages were documented) would suit the magic plugin so much easier. If it were up to me, I'd go by the latest magic-user list and provide each of those listed with their appropriate tier of magic, and then let those teachers hand it out accordingly as they have done so in the past. Magic on LoTC used to be something special and secretive, I'd personally like to see it return that way, as at the moment it feels like a whopping great magic supermarket has been plonked down, crushing the people like the clerics and druids.

I suppose a fitting response would be asking if you get a kick out of pissing off the magic role-players and groups who've been trying to do this for three years now on their own - giving them a plugin despite all its work, is not what they want at all - and instead potentially opens up a whole new can of worms as far as mechanical combat abuse goes with 'open' learning by sitting AFK while on a block of ice.

Not everyone will be using the magic simply due to the fact, that, if I am correct in remembering, learning magic will gradually decrease your health. I think it can get to the point where it's 6 hearts, at least. That's a LOT more fragile than before, no?

I thought the general consensus was "We're not use in wars and conflicts, we want a mechanical representation for our magic". That's literally what you're getting.

To be honest, if you're, say, a Druid RP'er, then it's likely you spend 99% of your time in a forest biome anyway, so you can literally learn magic as you RP. Same goes for Necromancers, they usually hang around in mycelium/hell biomes, Shamans in deserts, etc.

Someone answer me this:

Will the magic plugin and actual RP combat magic have ANYTHING to do with eachother?

Two, will people be forced to use the plugin to rp magic?

Three, doesn't this discourage RP on a RP server?

This, a thousand times over.

Yiss comrade, true USSR comrades like myself know what great things come from communism. Glory to the motherland!

So no offense, but where does magic become commonplace? I surely expect that everyone and their mother is probably going to know 1 spell given we are all curious by our nature. But actual mages? I will personally applaud the few that will put in the effort that is required to become a real mage.

The magic plugin has been a heated topic, one of the most requested plugins of all on LotC. Even when people didn't exactly want anything they wanted professions, and what? Magic. You ask, we deliver. Just because you didn't want a plugin doesn't mean we must punish the rest of the players, I am sorry however for your personal loss.

Instead of keeping projects secret and how you want them to eventually work. Maybe you should give some frequent updates on what is being added. That way, instead of the current outcry from players not liking how it turned out, you can have steady criticism on the changes being made.

1. Not a technical question, but I suppose it will?

2. Please refer to OP.

3. Sorry? How? .-.

I'm down for giving it a shot before I fully don my criticism attire and baton. My true concern is the RP that is to be bypassed via the plugin. Finding a teacher may help, but isn't necessary. Learning of things such as the void are irrelevant. I can only hope the freedom over magic will provoke a new form of roleplay - but only time will tell I suppose.

Goddamn communists.
