Resignation And Departure

Well... this is it.

I was accepted to LOTC on October 16, 2011, after a long search for a good roleplay server. Since then there have been lots of great times. I’ve roleplayed in each realm, been on many staff teams and met a lot of amazing people. The server has been fun, interesting, unique and an experience not replicated elsewhere. Bringing in others and helping them also enjoy the server created feelings of usefulness. Finding LOTC was a dream come true, for a while. But things have changed.

Some changes are good, some bad, some ambiguous. Recently, though, the changes have come to be too much. Not all of them are on the server. Job hunting, family issues and other real life commitments have greatly reduced the amount of time I can spend on LOTC. Over time, too, I’ve simply lost a lot of interest in roleplay, Minecraft and the server in general. LOTC has also greatly altered since the days of old. While there were problems then, the harassment, bickering, trolling, whining and general lack of appreciation has really taken a toll as of late. That several other players and friends have left recently only increases my incentive to depart as well. I don’t think the server is dying, nor is the quality decreasing drastically. But it has changed, and I can’t help but yearn for a time that cannot be replicated. Making the decision to step back has been really difficult, but after a few weeks of thinking it over I’ve decided it’s the best one.

So I hereby resign as a Forum Moderator and from the Media Team and quit any other regular server duties previously undertaken. I hope that all the time, work and effort put into everything I did was appreciated and will continue to make a positive impact even when I’m not around to see it.

I’ve definitely been busy during my time here.
Was on the App Team for two and half years, the longest serving active member. Probably reviewed somewhere around 2300-2700 applications, hard to tell for sure. This is also quite likely the most apps reviewed by a single AT. Accepted many players who would go on to also be very active in the community (as well as one or two that should definitely have been denied). The AT was by far my favourite staff team to be on and doing apps was always fun.
Served as a Lore Master for a little over two years. Was never really that active but tried to help players, write, and review lore. Second longest serving LM, after Alan.
Was on the Media Team for slightly over two years, one of the longest serving. Posted trivia and other content to Facebook, ran the LOTC tumblr and added to other social media.
Forum Moderator for two years. Did a lot of the usual forum cleaning and gave warns. Probably the longest serving FM as well.
On and off Wiki Admin for three years. Transferred three wikis in part or in whole as different hosting sites broke.
The daily trivia, posted on the forums and wiki. Will have a separate post, but hopefully you can all realize how much time went into collecting, organizing and posting the questions. Every day. For several years.
Maintained my own tumblr gif blog related to the server, created and then ran the LOTC tumblr.
Created six LOTC musicals, three Guess that LOTCer competitions, several other forum games and was active in multiple forum RPs. Wrote fiction and guides, plus many other forum posts on various subjects.
Roleplayed, though less and less over the years. Haven’t even logged into the server in at least four months.

I’d like to be able to say thanks and good-byes to everyone, but that’s not possible. There have been so many groups and players that made an impact on my LOTC journey that listing everyone would take too long. In the spoiler are some of the more memorable ones, but if we ever talked, roleplayed, collaborated or interacted in any way know that you too helped shape my LOTC experience.

The Aegis crowd of RPers – Axl, VeggieDelightful, Bgrape, Zeb, RHcrow, ScottyBleez.
The Asulon crowd – Boiendl, Ilumtarus, Rhisereld.
The OOC crowd – Danic, Dante, Eoin, Will, Gwonam, Susie.
The App Team, holy moly. What a good time that was.
The Lore Masters, who really try and do good.
The Media Team, long the butt of inactivity jokes but producers of some great stuff.
The FMs, whose work is rarely seen.
Any VAT who reviewed, discussed, denied or accepted my VAs.
All staff, who put in lots of time and effort with little appreciation.

Alan, a good boss.
Aryon, one of the best AT ever.
Availer, creator of LOTC.
Birdwhisperer, one of the better FMs.
Bgrape, who told me about the server.
Cappy, a great friend who deserved better.
Danny, who worked harder than almost anyone.
Elindor, who honestly deserves way more kudos.
Emeraldstag, forum RP.
Escharian, good monk.
Ever, my twin.
Freya, who did so much.
Jchizz, great forum RPer.
Kowaman, tech stuff.
Liri, despite breaking the server.
Monkeycoffee, a great kid.
Native, being the voice of LOTC for a long time.
Nppeck, another active member.
Petyr, for kicking off the Halflings.
Rhia, a good AT leader.
Ski_king, one of the best apps I accepted.
Skippy, what a guy.
SodaPops, who did a lot.
Susie, one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.
Syrenne, the classic model of a good FM.
Tyrion, who accepted my server app.
Tythus, the longest serving and underappreciated staff member.
Vardak, king of trivia.
Zeb, a good friend in the early days.

I’m not leaving entirely, of course. It would be very difficult to actually pull away for good, though maybe that will happen later. For now I’ll just feel no obligations towards any staff teams or anything else that would compel me to log in everyday. I’ll probably check in on the forums every few days. With cleaning out of bookmarks I’ll almost certainly find old projects and other things to post, so keep an eye out for those. Add me on skype if you want to.

So farewell. Keep on roleplaying, and remember that LOTC is only as good as the community makes it out to be.

I still remember when you first showed up to Galahar, contributing to the library within the knights' keep when you could as a scribe. It was pretty exciting seeing someone else actually give a **** about all the books we tried to collect there.

I had a feeling this would be coming soon, but it's still sad to see you go. I've always looked up to you as an FM, you were one of the best.

You were the one to accept me onto the server Everblue :')

All the work and time you put into the server hasn't gone by unnoticed.

Thank you, and I wish you the best of luck out in the big bad world! I'm sure you'll excel at whatever you decide to do, or wherever your paths takes you.
