Real shame to see the Ark hate, he would have been a great leader if circumstances weren't what they were. He did amazing in Karovia. For those who don't remember, Karovia was #2 in population behind Petrus, more populace than elfia or dwarfia or orcia. Silly to think he wouldn't do just as great otherwise, you know, not inheriting a ****-storm in a ****-storm. Not fair to make judgement just on IC actions/achievements. I wasn't around for William III's reign so I can't say I can draw any comparison.

It's okay Ark, you would've been a good king.

If I drop all personal bias, which is hard...

Best was Mog on Horen. I was introduced to lotc with him in power, and the noble roleplay was fabulous. I miss Silverblade balls and all of the small factions like the Greens, the Valois, the Streltsi, Teutons, Flays etc.

Worst was whoever ran Oren during the Fringe. I don't know who that was, is how sad it was.

In the scheme of things the Sheffields were probably the worst. You have one cannibalizing his wife and the other one handing over the crown to one of Oren's greatest enemies/traitors at the time while his kingdom is in shambles and the last true town within it was run by a handful of knights in a keep that was smaller than some of the houses in Petrus nowadays. Enor's knighting ceremony for my guy was on the side of the road while preparing to build Galahar, didn't even use a sword to dub him. Grr, my immersion, grr. That probably establishes how apathetic of a leader he was though. His actions lead to the last of his few loyal men making the Phoenix rebellion and splintering Oren into Renatus, Hanseti and Salvus. Although Hanseti was established before this, to be fair, but Gaius being made king for a short while technically united it all briefly. The Sheffields crippled the humans for a long while and the recovery time was quite a bit longer compared to other slumps in human history.

Oren nearly turned into a strange democratic monarchy after Edmund Sheffield died. A few different people campaigned for king and everyone in the kingdom started campaigning and voting for different kings until Enor came along. No one liked him coming in like that but no one cared enough to stop him.

Enor without a doubt was the worst king. He managed to be one of the only kings in human history that was disliked by his subjects and then he destroyed Oren by handing the kingdom to its greatest enemy. Why did he do that?

James knows how it is. All the new blood thinks Ark did badly. Phew, they have no idea.

Enor was only a king by the fact that his skin had a crown. He did not regulate or rule anything, the knights (Braxis being head honcho) were the ones that actually governed Galahar - the main settlement that was under Enor's rule at the time. It was objectively terrible and a total clusterfuck, I still liked the RP day to day a lot though.

Al'khazar was still there for a lot of Enor's time, but he still didn't govern anything. The military ran itself and the council handled most other things like taxation, etc.

Ya'll motherf*ckers chose to rebel when Enor gave me the crown, but sit here and chastise him years later :(

That's because you had attacked Oren several times. Hanseti was Oren's greatest enemy. It'd have been like handing the crown to the Undead. That decision alone would make him a terrible king. Enor had tons of other faults too including not actually ruling his kingdom and making his people hate him through his apathy.

So what does all of this lead us to conclude? What kinds of governments and leaders are most effective and most popular? What failings should future and present leaders at every level of feudal administration avoid?
