Your View: Villainy

Listen to the community. Stop with this "We know better" parenthood attitude. It's unfitting.

This is a community of Role-players. We have rights and opinions and we will express them. Most of your lore and history is made by the very community you're moving to oppress.

You gave us a blank slate on a new seed allowing us to write history, to make lore and to expand on this blank canvas you placed in front of us.

This is a community server, it always has been. If you fail to see this, then there's no hope.

  1. Terrible Villainy Roleplay (e.g. *walks up to the person, drawing his sword, "Minas or die", *swings his sword at person (before response), ((pvp default )
  2. Lack of interesting villainy roleplay.

Those two points were problems too before we got VAs removed too, and I didn't really see a change. An application for different character choices has never made the roleplay quality better. At least so I believe, and I think I'm not alone.

Don't be afraid to use that blacklist on banhammer.

There's one thing that always gets forgotten when this comes up.

VAs were not removed because the staff suddenly started trusting the playerbase. It wasn't that we didn't need them any more.

VAs were removed because they didn't work. Villainy still sucked, except a load of people had to do a load of paperwork. Removing VAs didn't make villainy any worse and restoring VAs won't make it any better.

No, you don't. You have no rights whatsoever.

There is one person with ultimate power on LotC, and that's the guy who pays the bills and controls the off switch. You don't even have a right to log in, let alone to dictate the pathway of the server.

All the bullshit drama that permeates LotC is completely artifical. It's not a country, it's not a company, it's a guy with a server that he's letting you all play on. And it's his server: he makes the rules, and he can turn it off whenever he likes. And before you say "but if you don't do what the players want they'll all leave." So what? LotC's not a company with a vested financial interest in player happiness. With the bullshit that goes on here they've got to put up with, I'm almost surprised the staff haven't just switched the server off and walked away.

I'm not really a fan of bold statements meaning to garner shock in the masses.

The staff are just as, if not far more addicted to the power, sense of superiority and belonging within an elite group than we the players are in our respective cliques. Long as you have that blue tag under you're name you have a reason to believe you've accomplished something in life.

Edit: I want to see reasoning. If I wanted to see a numbers game I would have made a poll, I want to see reasoning behind it and logical arguments not mindless number posting. If you don't contribute to the discussion your post will be hidden

Just 2 things to say. one, i am from 2011, when the server first started. and i can say, with out a doubt, before the new VAT and MAT that you just introduced, the server was absolutely amazing. Everyone was happy, and could give a damn about anything because of how much RP and things that would just pop up and add to the spice. But then you ruined that the minute you saw that one or two people wanted to be control freaks and make it so every mistake should count against them and then lead up to a restricting no fun RP server that is was around the time of the second third map. And now, you are doing just that but are being to ignorant to see it. and 2. WHO THE F*** DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TO TELL THE COMMUNITY, THE ONES THAT MAKE THE SERVER NUMBER ONE, THAT THEY HAVE TO EXPLAIN THEMSELVES TO GET THE SERVER TO CHANGE? IF THE MAJORITY WANT CHANGE THEY GET CHANGE! AND IT IS OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE, THE MAJORITY IS IN FAVOR OF IT GOING BACK TO WHAT IS WAS 3 DAYS AGO, WITH NO CHANGES!

BTW, let us pick who are characters are. Dont restrict us to "you need to fill out this app and wait a week before it will be accepted or denied." If our character wants to be a magician then they can go find a teacher or book, and learn it. And if it isn't this way, then it is NOT a RP server. Its a, "here you are! a open world to do what ever you want!... besides do this this or this before you make a 1 page app on it! happy fake RPing." and yes, i realize this can sometimes cause problems, but if it does, it can always be sorted out. that's what true rp is, the ability to pick your own path and choose your own actions.

With the bullshit that goes on here they've got to put up with, I'm almost surprised the staff haven't just switched the server off and walked away.

Because we are making him money. And you've seen plenty of staff just walk away, Native, Lirinya, Rittsy, countless GMs. But Tythus wont as long as he's still in control of the monetary donations this server is receiving.

As long as this server is making a profit, it wont close down.

The problem with a VA is a prevention measure that doesn't solve anything as stated numerous times before. You cant policy whats good and whats bad rp. Its totally subjective and makes you look elitist. Let me put it this way

Said villain robs you and pvp defaults you. But when he brings his loot back to the lair, his boss beats the crap out of him and forces him to hand over his stuff. Said villain curses his life and swears he'll become the boss one day, and his entire rp is based around toppling said thief chief.

You only witness a small amount of rp going on, and lets be real how exciting can you get it? Robbing someone with a knife is no different than talking to patrons in a tavern. Its just rp, of course it'll be not-fun when you are threatened.

You cant stop bad rp.

The only way for villainy to ever improve is by getting role models and teachers to educate the playerbase via events or whatever. Bringing back VAs doesn't solve the fundamental question, it just acts as a hurdle for someone to cross over again. Can you deny bandit apps? What if we prevented anyone from playing a bandit, would that solve your problem?

There just isn't an answer to this, a VA is not the right way to go but rather if you want to try and change the state of villainy, you might try to having a staff start a bandit group and show them hows it done. And I'm sure even then people are going to complain about poor villain rp.

I've sat reading this comment for the past 5, maybe 10 minutes. Trying to come up with a non-aggressive sounding response. I just can't - but I won't apologise. Whether this was intended at another blow at the staff, ex or current, I genuinely don't know.

1. You aren't making Tythus money. Yes it goes to him - but unless he lying to not only my face, but other peoples as well, he isn't profiting from LotC.

2. All staff have reasons for moving on. I can assure you that had I been in the position Tythus is in right now, I would still have left.

3. I understand he is not around online, but that isn't what he does. He maintains it, helps fix it when it breaks. He has not always been in charge of the finances, you know.

Finally, this isn't true at all. The server could close for a number of reasons, the fact that it has enough to keep it running is just beneficial.

I wonder if he meant that cashflow generates a sense that things must continue because others have financial investment in it. It just wasn't worded the best if that was the meaning. OR he just doesn't realise how flimsy this "profit" is and genuinely thinks its a registered business with employee receiving paychecks.
