Ordens Livonijas;

The Livonian Order

“Help” - “Defend” - “Heal”

History -

The Ordens Livonijas was established on the 13th of Grand Harvest, 1512. It was founded by Grandmaster Constantine as an order of warrior monks, knights, and healers, and to be an Order that actually upheld and exemplified the ideal of the noble knight. The initial members consisted of the Grandmaster, Sarrion Pascal, and Elric Pascal. The Order was directly founded to prepare for and combat the inevitable illness, famine, and poverty that would arise from the prophesized flooding of Athera. The Order’s first Chapterhouse was located in the town of Eastbourne, part of the Duchy of Vanaheim. A month after its founding, the Order had its ranking system complete, Chapterhouse built, Knightly vows sworn, and had found itself seven new members. The first official endeavor of the Order was to supply the city of Cerulin with indefinite free food. By the 13th of Sun’s Smile, 1512, their food chest was available to the public and brimming with freshly baked bread. The Order’s second official endeavor was to codify their Order and their mission in writing, that their knowledge may be shared with their brothers and passed down to new initiates. Once complete, the Order prepared itself for the flood by gathering and dispensing food, medicine, building materials, weapons, and armor. Two ships were constructed, and the Order proceeded to interview and recruit virtuous men and women who wished to assist in preparing for the disaster.

Purpose -

The Ordens Livonijas exists to exemplify its motto. They help those in need, heal any who are afflicted with illness or injury, and defend the descendants from evil, unholy, and corrupt threats. This takes the practical form of providing free foodstuffs, building materials, medicine, healing, housing, sanctuary, and worship space to peoples of various settlements. The Order also fights any unnatural threats, such as monsters or magical anomalies, enacts justice on evil doers, converts non-believers, and combats any nations deemed evil or corrupt.

Knightly Vows -

-The Knight shall defend the descendants from all unholy threats.

-The Knight shall vow to purge the world of everything that is evil and corrupt.

-The Knight shall avoid unnecessary pleasures of the body, lest he become decadent.

-The Knight shall always assist those who are in need, and never show greed.

-The Knight shall work tirelessly to help the needy and combat evil.

-The Knight shall not be quick to anger.

-The Knight shall show kindness towards his fellow descendants.

-The Knight shall not seek personal fame, glory, titles, or land, and shall never be boastful.

-The Knight shall be just and honest.

-The Knight shall never take the title of "Ser," nor style himself a Knight of Oren.

-The Knight shall be courteous, even to his greatest of enemies.

-The Knight shall show bravery in the face of danger, and never run from battle.

-The Knight shall show unwavering allegiance to the Grandmaster and to his fellow Brothers.

-The Knight shall never abandon his post or his Brothers.

-The Knight shall be pious and spiritual in nature.

-The Knight shall bring the light to those who are lost.

Ranks -

Grandmaster; 1 Max

The overarching leader of the order. His word is law. The Grandmaster adds a label of three points to his coat of arms.

Knight Commander; 1 per Chapterhouse

The leader of an individual Chapterhouse. His word is law within his Chapterhouse, and is only succeeded by the Grandmaster himself. Only a Knight Commander may accept the Knightly vows of an initiate and induct him into the order. The Knight Commander adds a crescent to his coat of arms.

Knight Captain; 1 per 4 Knight Brothers

Knight Captains are assistants to Knight Commanders, act as officers of the order, and are the ones given any special duties and titles. Every Knight Brother answers to a Knight Captain, and the Knight Captain is responsible for enforcing discipline and order among their men. The Knight Captain adds a star to his coat of arms.

Knight Sersjant; 1 per Chapterhouse

Knight Sersjants are the instructors of the order. All Men at Arms of the order report to their Chapterhouse’s Knight Sersjant, and receiving training and instruction in Order conduct from him. He is also the one who instructs Initiates and teaches them the code. The Knight Sersjant or anyone who outranks him may make someone an initiate. The Knight Sersjant adds a martlet to his coat of arms.

Knight Errant; 1 per hospital

A Knight Errant is charged with going out in the world, assisting the populace, and fighting evil. Every hospital established anywhere is run by a Knight Errant. Knight Errants generally also act as liaisons and diplomats to the settlement that houses their hospital. The Knight Errant adds a annulet to his coat of arms.

Knight Brother; Dependent

A Knight Brother is the standard rank of the order. Fully fledged Knight Brothers are the backbone of the Ordens Livonijas, around which the order is organized. Knight Errants and all above ranks are authorized to enter combat and dispense justice as they see fit. The Knight Brother adds a lorraine cross to his coat of arms.

Squire; 1 per Knight Errant

A Squire is a Knight in Training. There are always the same number of Knight Errants as there are Squires. Each Squire is assigned to a respective Knight Errant, acting as his assistant. Squires are not authorized to enter combat or dispense justice without the permission of their Knight Errant. The Squire adds a rose to his coat of arms.

Man at Arms; Dependent

A Man at Arms is a trainee within the order, and has yet to be squired. They answer to their Chapterhouse’s Knight Sersjant, and are not authorized to enter combat or dispense justice unless in the presence of a Knight Captain. The Man at Arms adds a cross moline to his coat of arms.

Initiate; Dependent

An Initiate is a brand new member of the order, who has yet to take the Knightly vows or receive any training. They are not authorized to enter combat or dispense justice unless in the presence of a Knight Commander. The Initiate adds an octofoil to his coat of arms.

Publius would wince upon hearing of another knight order, and as the good Samaritan that he is, would tastefully tack on the Orenian Edict of Knighthood on any copy of this he could find.

After doing so, he would happily march on, a broad smile on his face for doing his good deed of the day!

Garahel scratches his head as he reads about the order, wondering why call them knights at all if they're not gentry, don't follow the actual knight's code and aren't even allowed to call themselves knights.

"I don't think that there is too much of a problem with an order of fellows established not for political means but for defending the weak! Surely, this order complies. In fact, I don't think this order yet owes allegiance to anyone!"

"Most were bands of men with a honest goal and purpose, and they were such a pain that this edict was still passed, and thus, will probably still affect them. You don't need a title to be a good man, so I'm sure a change of name will offend no one, aye?"

A certain midget took notice of the gossip and news flying by. A warm smile surfaced on his face, as he'd remember the old lessons, about Hanseti and the Teutonic Order, and he'd make a mental note to pay this new grandmaster a visit, be he friend or foe.

Ikarus over hears a few people talking about the order, she'd wander back to her home, and alert her friends "All the bloody knights orders are already corrupt! We don't need another one" she'd tell them.

Grim enters her house, shaking his head. "Your mother is corrupt."
