Stortfel

Habitat:

These beasts, in the wild, typically reside in the caves under deserts. During the day, they can be found on the surface of the desert, but return to their cave dwellings after sunset.

Description:

Appearance

These creatures resemble scarabs the size of large dogs. They have very thick shells on their backs, that have almost no nerve sensation. Because of this, goblins are known to carve seats into the shells of domesticated ones. There is a clear difference between a wild Stortfel and a pet Stortfel. Wild ones have much thicker scales, as they are wounded much more often and every time the scales are cut they repair themselves to a thicker state. They have large pincers that can cut like a blunt sword. Many of the ones domesticated for war have their pincers sharpened so that they have enough power to decapitate someone the size of a halfling.

Diet

Stortfel prefer to eat small rodents and eels. However, they will eat most anything if you put it in front of them. This makes them especially easy to domesticate. They require a lot of food, as they are large and metabolize quickly. Stortfels typically eat things that are already dead, so they are not adapted to speed. In fact, they move very slowly.

Domestication

These beasts are very commonly domesticated. They are typically domesticated by orc kind, though it is not unheard of for a Farfolk to own one for the sake of companionship. It is easy to domesticate these creatures, so long as you feed them and get them to trust you. Goblins typically domesticate them as mounts and fighters. Uruks domesticate them as companions, but a lot of them time as soldiers and fighting practice. Ologs merely keep them around because they enjoy their company, and because Stortfels often come to Olog caves seeking food.

Scaddernak

Habitat: The Orcish desert, or wherever the orcs take the few remaining specimens.

Description: (Much credit to booklight12, whose descriptoin was the only one I managed to find. This is his description with a few slight alterations on my part for accuracy. Booklight12's original topic can be found here https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/121307-atheran-wildlife-deus-proditor-flora-fauna-and-bestiary/#comment-1163711 ) Scaddernaks are huge, dark creatures that resemble a mix of spider and scorpion with eight legs and a giant, venomous stinger. They have two claws, each bigger than an entire Orc and enough strength to smash down a fort in seconds. They are usually black or sandy coloured. These powerful creatures have impenetrable exoskeletons, with small vulnerable points found only at the joints, mouth, and eyes. Their pinsirs constrict with enough force to dent or even crush iron armors. They are extremely rare, with only two known living specimens and one known egg. Both known scaddernaks are under the fierce protection of the Orcish people, not that they need others to protect them, as they are intelligent, unspeakably lethal, and aggressive. It should also go without saying that they are very difficult to kill. Encounters with adult scaddernaks will almost inevitably lead to the deaths of its enemies. Of the few living examples of this highly endangered species, the most famous is the ancient Lurgoi. This monster is under the care of the Lur Clan, and is an enormous specimen, far larger than your average house. Confrontation is not recommended.

Author: For the life of me, I have no clue who originally came up with scaddernaks. They're old as dirt though, and need to be on here.

LM Approval Required: Yes! The reason being that they're incredibly rare, and should realistically almost never be encountered.

Amaranthine Beetle

Habitat:

Underground, Within the Earth

Description:

It is unknown if the Amaranthine beetle is in close relation to the scarab, but it shares with this other breed of beetle a similar shape, size, and dark coloring. The armor of this beetle is a dark, yet glowing shade of purple, protecting it's inner skeleton and making it hard for other creatures to crush or eat. It is quick to move and, seemingly, craves biting the flesh of creatures it finds threatening. The bites are known  thus far to only cause prolonged pain around the site of the bite, little is known about the long-term or short-term side effects.

 Recently surfaced, these beetles are still elusive and hard to track, but scholars have already deduced that these large insects burrow deep within the Earth, perhaps attracted to sewers and areas with waste. Seeming to travel in massive groups, these beetles are seemingly drawn to other animal's activity and sense danger at their presence , creatures like humans and elves being prime targets for these vicious beasts.

Bryophites

Habitat:

Anywhere.

Description: (Taken from the latest Lore post regarding them, here)

"A bryophite, in basic terms, is a “plant person”. They are a type of character that has encountered what is called Verridian Moss, a parasitic type of moss that turns them into what they are today.

    They are replaced by the moss and mode entirely out of plant material, from their skin to the organs the moss decided to recreate, everything is crafted genetically from some sort of material that count be found in a plant around the world of LOTC.

    Often among them are things such as crawling ivy going down their leafy arms, vines and leaves for hair, flowers on their shoulders and collarbones, etc."

Hm. So, this is a little awkward lol. I woke up today, and found out that I need to replace the description I provided with a farm more in-depth description Hellfiazz prepared but never posted. So, here it is. 100% of the credit goes to Hellfiazz for this information, and yes I have his permission. Sorry for the confusion this may cause.

The Scaddernak

One of the mightiest beasts in the known world, the Scaddernak is a fearsome creature that has earned its place in the Orcish psyche as symbolic of themselves: resilient, strong, and relentless in its fury. They resemble vastly overgrown scorpion-like monsters, though to describe them so does not quite do them justice.

Physiology:

Upon reaching adulthood, an average Scaddernak will be 40 feet in length when laid out from front of pincer to end of stinger, though will generally be 25 feet when active, and roughly 15 feet wide. They have two large pincers that are easily capable of severing a mortal in two, and have been used many a time to batter down stone walls in sieges and the like, as well as eight very sturdy segmented legs. Their stinger, a large portion of their total length, does not actually contain any venom glands and is instead used as a massive club-like appendage by the Scaddernak. They instead have venom in their Chelicerae, or mouthparts, more similar to a spider, which is potent enough to kill an Olog within an hour if it enters the bloodstream, and can even act as a horrifically strong corrosive in high concentrations. Their carapace is exceedingly thick, made up of a nigh impenetrable chitin that can resist even the bolts of ballistae, and can only be pierced by conventional weaponry around the Scaddernak’s mouth or underbelly. The chitin itself can be used as a very effective if unmalleable form of armour, if one is able to get access such a coveted material. Generally, they are of a black colour, but their have been uncommon cases of red, sandy, and even dark blue scaddernaks.

History

Scaddernaks have had a long history of interaction with Orcs, dating back to the first days of the Orcish race. The first taming of a Scaddernak was done by Krug himself, who managed to subdue one of these great creatures. He named this Scaddernak Lurgoi after his son, Lur, who he bestowed the beast onto. However, most interactions between the Orcs and Scaddernaks have been conflicts, with Orcs hunting the Scaddernaks and having many casualties afflicted upon them in the process. For a long while Scaddernaks verged on extinction with the only known remaining being the now legendary Lurgoi, though more recently they have began to rejuvenate their population under Orc stewardship.

Taming and Ownership

Though there are some instances of Scaddernaks being tamed, this is an extraordinarily rare occurrence due to the overwhelming difficulty and danger of the process. Such a thing involves forcing the Scaddernak into submission multiple times, which without an immensely strong sedative is almost impossible to do without rendering the beast unconscious, or worse, dead. As such, most domesticated Scaddernaks have been raised by a mortal from hatching.

Scaddernak eggs are generally gained from an already tame Scaddernaks nest, which are as expected far easier and safer to access. In theory, a Scaddernak can be stolen from a wild Scaddernak, but this will almost certainly result in the thief’s death after a very vengeful adult hunts them to the ends of the earth.

[img=http://i.imgur.com/bAiuhSH.jpg]

Appearance: These long furred dogs look much like great plains wolves. Large in size they travel in packs. Their fur color ranges from grey to black, but most commonly found in the darker shades. Their eyes range in color as well going from amber to black. Standing a good four feet at the shoulder, these dogs are large and burly.

Habitat: Found originally in the darker forests near Annil’sol, they prefer to wander in dim light. They can stand cooler weather better than most dogs, but suffer immensely in hotter weather.

Diet: Being dogs, they are meat eaters. They will eat small animals such as rabbits, mice, and other small creatures. They can hunt for themselves but will never turn down a juicy raw steak from their owner.

Temperament: Very tame and loyal, these dogs are intuned with their owner’s needs. They keep close, poised and ready to alert their owner of danger. Non-aggressive, they will not attack without provocation. Being strictly service dogs, they will not attack unless they are threatened or their master has been harmed (only if you have an MC dog to represent this).

Domestication: Found by a young Mali’ame, she quickly learned the way to get these animals into domestication. Already pretty domesticated prior, the few she brought back went into training as pups to become service dogs, learning tricks and tips to help those with disabilities, especially those unable to see or hear.

Tiuinjor

[img=http://i.imgur.com/cJw4fPO.jpg]

Appearance: The Tiuinjor have long bodies and even longer tails. They are small and rodent like in appearance. A small rounded face with large eyes make them more adorable. Between each front foot to their back is a thin layer of skin that allows them to glide through the air. Varying in color from grey to brown, these little balls of fluff will be sure to melt your heart.

Habitat: The trees of the orcish desert make perfect home for these little fliers. They jump from tree to tree to make nests and get their meals. Mostly nocturnal, they are active in they day, but not as often. They will usually hide in the hair or clothes of their companion.

Diet: Omnivores by nature, these guys eat plants and insects mostly. They enjoy the leaves and fruits of the jungle.

Temperament: Very skiddish at first but quick to befriend, especially with food. They rather hide upon the person than show themselves. Fiercely loyal to their companion once matched, they will keep to them and guide them wherever needed.

Domestication: Because they were so friendly, it was easy to domesticate the Tiuinjor. However, training them was a difficult task. Taking weeks to months to train them, they can be more trouble for the trainer than they are worth.

OOC Notes: These guys are based off Sugar Gliders. Used to help let a deaf character know someone is talking to them or something noisy and dangerous is near. They can not be used to meta information, only to act as the character’s ears. They can not relay information heard, just noise.

Athron Wolf

[img=http://i.imgur.com/wHwSz4e.gif?1]

What are they: A normal sized wolf, usually covered with german shepard like markings, the variety of the coloring however can range from black, to white.  Each is completely eyeless, unable to see in any way.  These creatures are as intelligent as a wolf or a german shepherd, their ability to learn is astounding however they refuse to bond to anyone besides a dwarf.  Though they can not see a dwarf, they can smell and taste one just fine.

Where did the come from: Most worlds have this variation, if they have wolves, they have the Athron wolves.  However its hard to find them, yet if one has a proper book of previous locations they can usually find a general location to find one.  It may take days to weeks to find the right cavern, however if you know the history it isn’t too hard. They always live in dark caves, where its rather quiet unless they are bonded.  However they usually live in large packs of 10-20, giving dwarfs a large option, however a dwarf doesn’t pick them, the Athron picks the dwarf.

Why would a dwarf want one: These creatures though blind have a heightened sense of smell and taste as well as hearing.  They are portable canaries, if there is a gas leak, a fire, or an intruder they will be more than able to give the alarm.  They also make loyal creatures, able to live up to 50 years, though usually a dwarf manages to bond to the older of them, allowing the youngers to choose later when they are more sure what they want.

Upsides: An Athron wolf is more capable of picking up a scent, isn’t scared by sights, and has a long life.

Downsides: Useless in a fight, cannot see, and their sensory is easily overloaded.

Appearance: These three foot tall animals look like a cross between a wolf and a fox. Their reddish pelt usually carries a dark tuff along the neck spine and along the paws and tail tip. Their golden to brown eyes are large but not in comparison to their ears. These creatures are a thing of wonder and beauty.

Habitat: Found in the southern wilds, these creatures love the mesa and savannah areas of the world. Their dens usually being within low shrubbery.

Diet: Strictly meat eaters, these creatures catch and eat smaller prey such as rabbits, rats, squirrels, and even larger game such as deer. They will not turn their nose up to free meat.

Temperament: Seemingly aggressive, these creatures have a bear like roar when they bark. They are calm but will attack if threatened or their owner is threatened. However, they are loyal to their owner and will stay at their side.

Domestication: Being difficult to get close to, domestication starts at the pup staged. Getting close to the pup and training them with their partner from the beginning is crucial to a proper bonding.

[img=http://i.imgur.com/6ITC3y2.png?1]

Appearance: Being under a foot, the jathar have Very large ears compared to the rest of their bodies that are a smaller size with a large fluffy tail. Their fur color is usually that of warm colors such as oranges, reds and yellow variants. They eye colors are a variant between yellow to brown. Their fur seems to emit a soft calming glow, but this could just be a trick of the light

Habitat: They are a very social Animal and if it doesn't have one of its own it will happy pick someone to join not caring of its race as long they are nice to it. I found that if you spend enough time with one it may even chose you over its own kind Making it quite a good pet along with how passive it is and the fact it hunts small prey.

Diet: Despite the size and look they eat meat being quite good hunters able to track small prey easily with their large ears. Good if you have a rat or mice problem

Temperament: Overly cuddly and friendly, they will happily hop into your lap and snuggle you. Their cheerful barks will bring smiles to most around them.

The Pegasus

Habitat:

When the pegasus isn't soaring in the sky, it can be found in the highest of mountain ranges until the harsh winter months arrive, when it retreats to the lower slopes to seek refuge from the bitter cold.

Description:

Pegasi resemble magnificent white draft horses with elegant feathered wings. Their coats sparkle under the sun in a manner reminiscent of light playing over new-fallen snow. They are wild beasts, capable of staving a soldier's head in with a well-placed blow from one of their hooves. While they seldom take to the ground, preferring the sky, when they do, they are swift runners. Pegasi that haven't been battle trained are far more likely to fly away then fight, except when their foals are in danger. Those who wish to ride a pegasus must raise it from birth, yet still it would take years for a pegasus to accept someone as their rider. The strength of the pegasus rivals that of the greatest of warhorses, making it both a frightening and extraordinary sight to behold. It must be noted that pegasi can't be bred like normal horses, as they fail to reproduce under captivity and are very rare, with only few hunters having been able to spot one to this day, disallowing armies to create a host of pegasi riders.

Drûth Skhelll

687474703a2f2f696d6730302e64657669616e74

Habitat: This massive tortoise exclusively inhabits jungles.

Description: The Drûth Skhelll, or Bush Tortoise in the Common Tongue, is the jungle dwelling cousin of the famous Duhnah Skhelll. While similar in its enormous size, the Drûth Skhelll differs from its desert relative in temperament and general behavior. Unlike the Duhnah Skhelll, the Drûth Skhell is herbivorous, finding its sustenance in the dense foliage of its jungle home, and often swallowing stones to assist in digestion. As such, it is noticeably safer to approach. Some might even consider it relatively docile. This is not to say the beast can’t or won’t defend itself when it feels threatened. It shares the powerful jaws of the Duhnah species, and can use them with lethal efficacy. Its shell also provides a near impenetrable defense, rivaling that of the great tortoises of the desert. Unlike the shell of the Sand Tortoise, however, the shell of this species doesn’t become brittle upon death, but stays behind as a proud monument to its previous owner long after the stalwart beast passes away.

  Like many other reptiles, the Drûth Skhelll grows for as long as it lives, as evidenced by the discovery of rare colossal shells left behind in the jungle, though most specimens only seem to live long enough to reach the size of a respectable house. Their coloration has been noted to vary from deep grays to dark greens, well-suited for their hostile jungle homes. The females tend to lay and bury large clutches of eggs, many of which are likely to fall prey to the various predators of the jungle. Needless to say, the Drûth Skhelll is extremely slow, with the exception of its devastating bite, much like that of the common snapping turtle, but on a far grander scale.

  ((It should be pointed out that, if tamed, this is not a combat mount. It’s a tortoise. It’s slow. Not something on which one gallops into battle. Since it only attacks in defense, it cannot be forced to fight. It defends itself if attacked, but it cannot be commanded to attack people.))

((Edit: It should also be noted that this lore is being submited in preparation for a future event that's still being worked on by members of the ED. We just wanted to post this now, so the lore would be ready in time for said event. Obviously, this little note at the end doesn't have to be included if the lore is accepted.))

The Pegasus

Glykors

Habitat:

The Glykors use their sharp maws to dig through the earth and create vast catacombs to serve as their nests. These catacombs are usually inhabited by other creatures that the Glykors eat as sustenance, one of the most well documented of these are the amaranthine beetles. These catacombs are usually covered in a sticky substance that the Glykors secrete to trap prey. Glykors aren't sentient but are able to construct makeshift traps and platforms to defend their nests. The Glykors usually create their catacombs deep underneath mountains, this has made them clash with tasty dwarves on many occasions. No dwarf has ever survived an encounter with a Glykor as this would explain why no knowledge of the species exists.

Description:

Glykors are disgusting creatures that live in vast catacombs deep beneath the earth. They use sharp maws to eat minerals and amaranthine beetles. Glykors have three stomachs and three large intestines for each stomach, each stomach contains a very volatile form of stomach acid. The Glykors eat minerals and amaranthine beetles as sustenance, the acid produced by Glykors has the capability of digesting minerals and almost any organic tissue (Dragon scales and leather armor are an exception to this...). Their maws contain 4 rows of 28 razor sharp fangs, these fangs seem to be made from some kind of metallic substance produced by a dangerous diet of minerals. Glykor claws are made of the same metallic substance, however the metallic substance is akin to pig iron due to the high amount of impurities in their diet of minerals and insects. Glykors are bipedal and seem to sport a semi-human anatomy, their bones are much stronger than ours due to their high diet of minerals but their skin is usually quite soft and delicate due to a lack of protein in their diet. Glykors cannot survive any form of sunlight and will usually become extremely aggressive when a light source is present. Should they come in contact with sunlight, they will most likely begin to burn until they retreat to the darker recesses of their vast catacombs. Glykors usually hunt in large packs similarly to wolves, when they’re in danger the pack of Glykors will screech for assistance, this usually results in an entire host of Glykors showing to kill each other for cannibalistic reasons. Anyone caught in the middle of such a slaughter is usually the first to be eaten alive, more specifically, miners that dug too deep into the unknown. Glykors are blind and slender in appearance, they must rely on sonar to locate prey. Glykors also have a sense of smell, however this sense of smell is weak compared to other species. Despite their seemingly powerful abilities, Glykors are weak against weaponry. Any sword can easily cut through their delicate skin just as a hammer could bruise the flesh beneath. Glykor do not excrete dung or excrement, they excrete a green fluid that slimes tend to eat as sustenance. This fluid is usually incredibly sticky and is similar in texture to mucus. Glykors tend to use their sharp claws to navigate their catacombs on walls and ceilings instead of the floors. The floors of the catacombs are rarely navigated by Glykors due to their excrement being dropped there. Amaranthine beetles love eating the excrement produced by Glykors making them mutual. Amaranthine beetles usually refrain from attacking Glykors due to them being a valuable food source. Glykors reproduce by laying eggs in their own excrement, the mineral rich excrement usually incubates their young, upon hatching the baby Glykors will eat amaranthine beetles until it can properly digest minerals. Glykors don’t have tongues but several small fibres, these fibres are usually covered in stomach acid, this allows them to taste anything the fibres touch allowing them to know the taste of what minerals they’re eating. In the case of flesh, the fibres will flail wildly and the Glykor will attempt to devour whatever it tasted.(Aka, Delicious Dwarves.)

Yes and no, this creature will be playable by players and the ET but only with LM approval and staff supervision. This would allow large Glykor events to occur in mountainous regions and for players to dig the vast catacombs that the Glykor inhabit. Players and ET playing Glykors will be confined to their designated dungeons/catacombs and will not be allowed to leave unless they expand the catacombs into an underground region, HOWEVER, this would require the region owner's consent and a planned event on a specific date. (For example, the Glykors swarm Kal’Akesh in a large event under the permission of its region owners.)

Odlatroll

Habitat:

Swamps, sewers, and damp caves. They tend to stay in small nests, that are very damp and moist- packed together from foliage, branches, and rocks- sealed together with their sticky  glue-like spit.

Description:

Small reptilian humanoid-like creatures, resembling lizards. They tend to either crawl around on all fours, or stand at anywhere from 2-4 feet with a significant hunch. They have slight claws, simply for self defense. Their scales can be of most any color, save for purple and grey. They have a slight sentience, reaching the level of a particularly clever olog. Odlatrolls live on their own, in small nests. They are nocturnal beasts, coming out at night to do various activities. These creatures are constantly throwing caution to the wind as they pursue their own personal goals. They are constantly energetic, and desperate for thrills, typically from pranks and mischief. In addition to this, they have overwhelming greed- causing their pranks to often include taking things and not returning them, or returning them in a very poor state. These creatures are skilled in stealth and agility, this aiding with the various acts of mischief they commit. These creatures are very impressionable, and easy to apprehend- often ending up domesticated by people unknowing of their sentience. When domesticated, they are used as messengers. Due to their impressionability, they typically end up obedient to their master although still doing their normal activities while their owners sleep.

--== Ice Fiend ==--

--+--+--==--[~]--==--+--+--

icewraith1_zps69d76183.jpg

--+--+--==--[~]--==--+--+--

Habitat:

Snowy regions, below the surface of iced over lakes and around other areas of extreme cold.

Description:

A creation of the now-imprisoned Ondnarch, these aptly named creatures are constructs of pure, solid ice. The power of the corrupted Aengul allowed them to exist and be formed in areas of intense cold, and thus they consist of compact, clear ice. Snake-like in shape and granted the ability to slither and float slightly off the ground, they consume the flesh of any creature for sustenance. Once ingested, the meat of the creature they feast upon is frozen and leached of its nutrients and energies (lifeforce and mana) in order to keep this being alive.

Ice Fiends are hostile creatures and opportunists, with a cunning intelligence that allows them to work together with their own kind and other creatures, should they find it beneficial -- though they often turn against any hot, fleshy beings the moment their brief use is expended. Thusly, taming these creatures is not possible for an average descendant, though a relationship may be formed in a similar manner to crocodiles inhabiting the bottom of a moat.

A regular blade is able to chip away at Ice Fiends, and aurum causes them no additional harm whatsoever. Heat, as expected, is quick to defeat these beings. They can be hard to discern amongst a backdrop of ice and snow, often making travellers believe they had been attacked by a ghost or invisible entity. When looked upon closely, however, one might notice the jagged, hard formations of ice and the wicked array of teeth set within strong jaws.

Cave Goblins

21e74037a88a0098b3bc4df0e76f415c.jpg

Habitat: Mountainous regions and caverns

Description:

Often mistaken for Goblins descending from Krug, Cave Goblins are a different breed entirely. Their skin color is usually gray or pale, some with a tint of blue. Cunning and hostile to outsiders, they usually inhabit grottos and places that are hard to reach for those of larger stature. The Cave Goblins form tribes, guarding their territories fiercely from potential threats, as well as from other tribes. They build primitive huts of twig, and bones from large creatures long since gone, usually settling in old ruins and crevices. As such they have been a considerable nuisance for the Dwarves of Urguan, stealing resources and ambushing those who would stray too far away from the safety of their mountain holds.

Being that wood is a rare commodity in the cavernous depths, most goblins make use of bones to craft tools and weapons. Bone tipped arrows, bone knives and bows are common instruments used by the Cave Goblins. The Cave Goblin diet usually consists of mushrooms found in grottos. Given that most of these fungi contain many toxins, it is theorized that this diet is the cause of the Cave Goblins' feral nature. They also hunt whatever game they can find, such as spiders or mammals. Cannibalism, as well as the consumption of human or dwarven flesh, is not unknown to most tribes.

Given the Cave Goblins' small and slim stature, they are relatively weak in melee combat. What they lack in strength however, they make up for in numbers and cunning guerilla warfare. Relying heavily on their archers and hidden flanking tactics, they can prove a considerable threat to even the most experienced of soldiers. Some tribes have also been known to tame or befriend other cavernous creatures, such as trolls and giant spiders, bolstering their threat significantly.
