The Beginning of War

Katherine Fisher stands in her home, in the snowy northern city of Riga. She stands staring down at a small child resting in a crib, soundly asleep while the world around them turns to chaos and war. The woman's body shakes briefly, a shiver tearing through her as she holds back her tears. Quietly, she says to her young son, 

 

"I fight for you."
