The Republic of South Korea

After extensive talks with the two leaders The Republic had contacted, The Republic has decided to stop the buildup at the DMZ even going to recall some of them, though they would keep working on what they had before. [[MOD PLEASE]]

Spoiler

We would like to thank you for your support on the subject, and will be sure to help you out, in the case of a war. Of course will also be dedicating our anti air systems to shoot down any potential nukes, hopefully once they are far enough away as to not cause too much damage.

North Korea, insulted by the prospect of the South attempting a large scale buildup, moves even further along in its mobilization of its own troops. The North puts nearly a million troops, primarily consisting of infantry and aged armor, along the border with the South and threatens invasion should the South not present its unconditional surrender and dissolution of the South Korean government under that of the North. Would the South's democracy finally submit to the totalitarian state to its north?

THE UNITED KINGDOM

Things were not going well for May. With an economy so weak, and so fragile, that the country was once again teetering on the edge, things could only last for so long. In order to break the status quo and constraints of such a small majority and moderate economic policy a snap election is held.

pjlmTSf7C3vXLNyIpKQ-Rh54GyP2LRq3u3ZD0kFT

With an empowered Labour Party led by Dan Jarvis MP advocating investment into northern communities, a sensible economic solution and an alternative to the now failed austerity measures against a ‘banker’s party’ led by May that advocated continued cutting of tax avoidance and an increasingly Eurosceptic stance, the solution was never in doubt -- the only question was too the margins.

By the end of the night the results were clear, out of 680 seats:

LABOUR - 401

CONSERVATIVE - 190

SNP - 34

LIB DEM - 27

UKIP - 17

OTHER - 12

The SNP saw a large slump in rural areas and urban Glasgow, primarily to the Liberal Democrats and Labour Party respectively, while the Conservatives saw a huge chunk of ‘Middle England’ disappear to the Labour Party. The only upset was the lack of UKIP seats - predicted higher in the region of 50 - though over a hundred former Labour safe seats in the north could now be considered marginals with majorities of less than 3,000 votes.

By morning Her Majesty had confirmed a new majority Labour government, in coalition with the SDLP party, dedicated to balancing the United Kingdom’s economy. The government’s first act is to address the tax issues with a number of reform:

1. All British dependencies are taken under direct British control, to be administered by Parliament, and all tax rates are levelled out with national rates. The destruction of areas like BVI (British Virgin Islands) and other enormously popular tax havens is likely to send a wave around the financial world.

2. Tax rates are re-examined at a rate of 29% for corporations, more than double the previous but still relatively low, while a new band is introduced for top earners (above 300,000 GBP a year) of 50%.

3. A motion is tabled to the UN of a wholly irregular nature; to share global information on companies between every country that agrees in order to eliminate large-scale tax avoidance and restore global revenue.

These are tabled into a greater Finance Bill, passed after two days, that includes the following:

I. THE TAX BILL [SEE ABOVE].

II. THE INVESTMENT BILL:

  1. An investment fund of circa. £350,000,000,000 is taken out at borrowing rates, historically low, and to be invested in the following sectors:

    1. Manufacturing;

    2. Construction;

    3. Aerospace;

    4. Defence;

    5. Steelworks;

    6. Automobiles;

    7. Agriculture;

    8. Mining.

  2. Exporting is to be boosted by a further devaluation of the GBP to £1.10 to the USD, an act that is designed to build a competitive export market.

  3. The [STEEL, CONSTRUCTION, DEFENCE] industries are to be partially nationalised (15% of industry) and administered in a mutually beneficial manner.

III. THE CONSUMER BILL:

  1. Tax cuts are made to the middle three bands of income of 2%, while VAT sees a return to 17.5% from 20%. The expected boost to consumer spending and working class income from breaks to a regressive tax are expected to be a boost in the economy.

  2. [FINANCIAL TRANSACTION TAX] -- A tax is to be levied upon the mass sale, transfer and purchase of shares to the rate of 2.5%. Although marginal, and taken off only enormous share transfers, the tax is likely to aid in balancing the books and help with income inequality.

British troops are, under the watchful eyes of the new PM, deployed to Northern Ireland in the number of 5,000 soldiers, all positioned on the now far more dangerous border with the ROI, while an offer is made to Estonia and Ukraine, now on the border with a far more dangerous Russia, of martial support. Specifically, the production of tanks begins [[7 PAGES]].

In a similar style is aid offered to the now free Iraq, a former British protectorate, of economic and military partnership. Canada is invited to further round-table talks, as is Germany ((Skype.))

[[MOD PLEASE, FOR ALL OF ABOVE.]]

LONDON, 20:30 GMT+00, 10 DOWNING STREET.

A bright and passionate Dan Jarvis steps out of the famous black door, hand raised in greeting to the nation as he pauses before the podium.

“People of the United Kingdom,

To those of you whom have seen reported, or heard, of the awful and dramatic events occurring between Brazil and Argentina, I have come to offer calm and security. Whatever our previous relation with the Argentine government, [a nervous laugh from reporters], we shall NOT allow Brazil to go exercising military influence over free nations. To the Argentine nation, we offer our support.”

With a singular, slow nod, the Prime Minister turns and returns to the building.

Following the speech a backdoor offer is made to Argentina of support, while a major naval detachment (the nation’s only aircraft carrier, 4 destroyers, and half-a-dozen submarines) begins moving towards the Falklands. [[MOD PLEASE]]

Meanwhile, the Japanese invitation is accepted by the PM, though the invite to join sanctions is thoroughly ignored.

The efforts of parliament, in the form of their new economic stability acts, does not go with effect. Indeed, the removal of many of the worlds most lucrative tax havens sees a fiscal panic unlike any other. Many wealthy individuals as well as corporations struggle to find new corporate tax havens for some time, though with the introduction of the city of Rotterdam as a corporate haven, many companies move their funds to banks there as well as Switzerland

Meanwhile British exports begin to improve as they flood the European market with cheap but well made goods. This does much to harm the overall economic well being of many European nations as stock prices of many European corporations see devaluations. The Labour stimulus package does a great deal in regards to reinvigorating the economy, especially in the form of new construction jobs and even a few manufacturing jobs thought previously to never be able to compete with overseas markets. The popularity of the Labour party begins to skyrocket, especially in areas where the UKIP still possess some influence.

Though appreciative of the offer by the British, Estonia and Ukraine both refuse to offer for martial support out of fear of sparking unnecesary tensions with the Russians. Instead they ask the British for economic aid.

The Argentines respond well to the British support, and are appreciative that they would deploy the Royal Navy as a form of aid, but insist that the British support them in the coming assembly of the United Nations Security Council in New York City.

Thanks in large part to this coordinated PR effort, attention from the West is finally starting to be shone on this incredible Martian program. Programs like 60 Minutes in the United States showcase the incredible scale of the program while other networks tell heart wrenching stories about the individuals who will embark on this mission. As the date inches closer and closer to launch, the people of the world can't help but feel some excitement as the Chinese are about to embark on the most incredible voyage of exploration in human history. Morale is high in China and engineers feel a special sense of pride as a result of being involved in some capacity on this glorious mission.

Swiss Confederation

The partially government-owned SR (Schweizer Rundfunk, Swiss Broadcasting Company) has recently taken notice of the Chinese mars mission. Various investors in Bern have now offered loans to China for the project. Despite Dietrich's failure to unite the populace under his language initiative, he is still hopeful that Switzerland shall see a golden age.

A few troops from the reserve are stationed around the border, as Dietrich now signs in a bill that shall hopefully stop illegal immigrants from crossing the alps. He also sends, with the people's approval, an offer to Austria to buy the region of Vorarlberg from them. They offer Austria any amount they like, as long as it is within reason and the government shall receive about 1/16 of the amount upfront. [[Mod Please]]

Switzerland is facing a good year in the agricultural industry, raking in a decent amount more then needed, thus meaning more exportation. [[Mod Please]]

Indeed, the Swiss saw a favorable net gain in the amount of crops farmed in the past year and such a surplus only further inflated the market with more Swiss agricultural product. While this was an incredibly positive outcome for the Swiss whose grain and other agricultural exports were priced relatively cheap and sold well, other nations such as Poland and France saw their profits sharply decline and farmers, especially in France, began to go into debt while some even faced bankruptcy and the loss of their farms. It would have to be considered whether or not Swiss profits should be prioritized over the stability of the rest of the European market, or otherwise return to a more equal share with large agriculture exporters like France and Poland.

Austria politely declines such an offer, stating that it rather not sell off a valued part of the nation. They instead offer more cooperation in the form of trade, as well as increased cooperation between the two nations border guards to ensure a halt to illegal immigration from migrants from the Balkans and Middle East.

              Honorable guests, we want to be present among other nations with honor, dignity and self-esteem. We want to be a nation that will be able to build its own civilization, to become a creative, great nation that will contribute to the greatness of the global civilization.

We have to work as hard as possible to turn Indonesia into a maritime nation once again.

Oceans, seas, straits and bays are the future of our civilization.

We’ve turned our back on the seas, oceans, straits and bays for far too long. It is time for us to realize ‘jalesveva jayamahe,’ ‘in the ocean we triumph,’ a motto upheld by our ancestors in the past.

We want to make that happen again.

My fellow countrymen and women:

The big job to build the nation cannot be done by the president, vice president and the government I lead alone. It needs the support of a collective power, which is a united nation.

In the next five years we will continue our momentum as an independent nation. Therefore work, work and work are most important.

I believe that with hard work and cooperation, we will be able to protect the nation and all the citizens of Indonesia, to improve public welfare, to educate the nation and to participate in efforts to maintain the world order based on independence, eternal peace and social justice.

My fellow countrymen and women:

On behalf of the people and the government of Indonesia, I extend my gratitude and appreciation to their excellencies heads of states and governments and special envoys from foreign nations .

I want to emphasize that under my leadership, Indonesia — as the world’s third-largest democracy, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, an archipelago state and the biggest nation in Southeast Asia — will continue to exercise our independent and active foreign policy dedicated for the national interest, and will take part in maintaining the world order based on independence, eternal peace and social justice.

Moving forward with his promises, the defence industry was tasked with constructing an advanced version of a frigate to employ in maritime missions. [ 8 pages ]

- Indonesia moves into communication between Brazil and Australia

- Indonesia will research the current political situation in neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore ( MOD ACTION)

[!] Military movement

In the eve of that speech, the Indonesian Navy will sail towards the Pacific Ocean, intent on circumventing the Mar del plata in the coming days, however, its intentions whether to assist or attack Argentine vessels are unclear as of yet.

The Commonwealth of Australia

2000px-Australia_stub.svg.png

With a new decade on the Horizon, Australia's future had never looked brighter... Well, at least, to an extent.

Australia had gone through almost 4 prime ministers in the last 2 years, all which had been unable to create a truly stable governing in Parliament. The Coalition and the Labor party had engaged in a brutal battle to gain a majority the Australian parliament, but eventually, the Coalition had won it's victory, and it was a landslide, at that.

And Tony Abbott had, once again, become Prime Minister.

He was very conservative in terms of social policy, something typically frowned down upon in 2017. He was a notorious supporter of the Australian monarchy, and a devout Catholic; he had originally resigned two years earlier due to a scandal in which he submitted an important bill to Parliament twice, upon both instances it had failed. But Australia had spoken, it seemed. They were tired of change, tired of watching the other pacific nations expand at almost twice their rate of growth. Tired of China buying up swaths of farmland that should belong to Australians, tired of the economic heart attack that the stock market had suffered when Britain left the European Union (A good thing in the long wrong, but for the moment, a bad action that had seemingly affected the entire world).

------------------

The first thing on the new Prime Minister's agenda was to reinstate royal knightly titles for Australian civilians. A bloody useless and worthless mater, he thought to himself, but one our heritage is entwined with closely. After consulting with his ministers, some spouting off statements of support and others screaming furious, outraged objections, he sends a formal letter to Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom, requesting that, once again, she reinstate knightly titles in the Order of Australia. [@stigwig.]

The next action taken by Abbott was to begin negotiating with Parliament and the individual Australian states to loosen Australian anti-gun laws to allow citizens to own personal firearms such as revolvers, automatic pistols, pump-action shotguns, and the likes, although the ownership of assault and sniper rifles will still be heavily restricted for the time being, by special government permit only. Though of course there was much objection from the Labour Party as to the Coalition's movement towards decriminalizing the ownership of civilian firearms, the landslide Coalition majority government managed to procure the deals with the state governments necessary.

------------------

img-9a62e3c3bda8a71a583688f2704fa34c.jpg

With these two matters out of the way, it was time to get down to serious business at the center of Australian government.

The United Kingdom's requests for free trading rights and their under-the-table request for the leasing of several naval bases along the west coast are accepted with open arms, the new sympathetic, monarchist government wishing to keep closer ties to the motherland. [@Stigwig.] Australia also calls for a meeting of the Commonwealth of Nations to be hosted in Sydney, mainly between Canada @Vanir, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and all other existing realms with the queen as their monarch. ((@MOD for npcs, Skype Chat))

The diplomats from Canada [@Vanir] are received heartily. Prime Minister Abbott was just about to send an envoy to Canada himself, and he invites the ambassador to join him in his office for lunch the following afternoon. ((Forum PM, Skype, Whatev))

Australia sends it's own envoys to South Korea @KBR, Japan [@Chamo], India [@Pureimp10], the United States [@MaxGemini], and Canada [@Vanir Again] to request the establishment of free trade routes between Australia and each of their respective nations.

-----

To New Zealand, Australian diplomats are sent to discuss the formation of closer ties between the two nations. Australia would express an interest in forming the foundations of a Federal Union with New Zealand, due to their close cultural, historical, and economic ties, in the interest of defense and economic ease. Talks could be held between the nations' two Prime Ministers, if they were interested. Missives are also sent out to Tuvalu, Nauru, and Kiribati, all independent Pacific island nations that use the Australian dollar, in hopes of forming a closer economic partnership, as well as a political one, with these nations. ((@_POK_))

-----

The ambassador to China [@Taketheshot] wishes to discuss the political relationship between their two countries, as well as a number of other matters. ((Skype or Forum PMs))

-----

Concerning the situation in South America, the PM is dismayed to find that such conflict has broken out on the continent. He's even further dismayed to hear of Argentina's provocation of a South American War [@Draeris].

The Australian representative in the UN prepares to discuss the situation in further detail at the General Assembly, whenever it's held. In the meantime, the Prime Minister of Australia releases a general statement:

d98f08be5e97f20bace8bf674067323b.gif

"This is outrageous! The Brazilians were simply offering Argentina the prospect of a peaceful political union, autonomous at that, and the Argentines responded by mobilizing their military forces! Was this necessary...? Of course not! They could have simply, peaceably declined, without the prelude to war with the Brazilians! While some may blame the war on Brazil for attacking first, it is my belief that what they did was simply a pre-emptive strike to ensure that the Argentines did not assault them first! This being said, whilst it is our belief that Argentina is in the wrong, we still urge the Brazilian government, with which we have had a fruitful and lovely relationship with over the years, to attempt to reach a peaceful agreement with Argentina if at all possible."

A naval task force is mobilized in Sydney's harbor, as is a contingent of 20,000 well-trained Australian troops. They prepare to set sail for South America at a moment's notice, taking the time to train, engage in war games, and lay out battle plans against Argentina. At the same time, the Australian government stands beside Indonesia in calling a summit between Argentina, Brazil, and the two of their nations.

-----

As Prime Minister Abbott looked over Australia's military statistics, he sighed. Australia needed to buff up. After consulting with senior Australian generals, an ambitious armament program is decided upon, and a bill affirming it is passed through the Australian Parliament. Australia aims to bolster it's infantry forces up to 120,000, an increase to almost twice as many troops, by 2020. A massive recruitment campaign begins, using television commercials, youtube adds, and social media to drive the campaign forward, using the excuse of possible foreign threats and the South American War to attempt to rally young Australian men and women to the cause. ((@_POK_))

The government issues massive grants to the various corporations and universities within Australia, going all out in doing so, and research begins on a new type of aircraft carrier, to be known as the "James Cook Class Supercarrier", which is to be armed with a new air superiority fighter being developed, the "Kangaroo". ((8 and 7 pages respectively))

An armored infantry vehicle, the "Interceptor", is also in the process of being developed, based around American Humvee designs, but several tweaks and improved design features are planned for it as well, such as the ability to be automated and lead by GPS, and the addition of improved armor and bullet proof glass into it's design. ((5 Pages? If there's a problem or this counts as mechanized equipment and not infantry, tell me and I'll change to 8))

The construction of 5 new destroyers and 3 new frigates is also ordered, in an attempt to bolster the Royal Australian Navy. ((3 pages, tell me if this is too much))

((Sorry for the bad formatting at the end, forums are screwed up for me. Will fix later in edit.))

The other states of Oceania largely meet the Australian proposal with open minds, though they do not immediately surrender their sovereignty, especially New Zealand. However for the islands, it is a different story. These islands have had to deal with serious ecosystem failure and as a result, are about to face a large immigration crisis. Their people need to leave the islands, which are sinking slowly back into the Pacific. They request open borders with Australia and propose a 10 year resettlement plan that will allow the islanders to slowly fund and settle into Australia's northern outback. Though they will not outright ask for aid from the Australian people, it would be greatly appreciated.

The recruitment drive also sees varying amounts of success, though it is believed that many of these recruits are not in the greatest physical condition and a large amount of money, more than anticipated, will have to be invested in order to sufficiently train these new armed forces.

The USA jumpstarts an ongoing propaganda campaign aimed at US investors in an attempt to encourage them to invest in Chinese real estate in an attempt to aid China's economy. [[MOD PLEASE]]

With non-medicinal Marijuana once again illegal, youth productivity sees a slow, but steady recovery (though many still claim medical dependency to the drug). The money invested into the school system is a huge boon for teachers everywhere who praise the sitting Republican president and Congress for effectively passing legislation to help fund schools. More inner city schools are able to open up, relieving stress from packed schools across the country. Though Marijuana may not have had the greatest affect, the accumulated wealth did prove beneficial to the American people and many opinions about the drug began to soften.

The U.S. struggles to find willing U.S. realtors to invest in China as many argue that the United States ought to worry about fixing its own housing market before going out and aiding its greatest economic rival, China. Instead, public protests begin to occur on capital hill, especially from the Right, about giving money to China. These conservatives, including vocal members of both houses of Congress, demand that President Trump stop working with China or face being outed at the next Republican National Convention and replaced with a more suitable candidate for the 2020 election cycle.

Though admirable, there is a large amount of Chinese skepticism, especially among the Republican party, and the public opinion does not change very much. At least not where it matters. Liberal opinions regarding China are beginning to increase and the minority Democratic party has vowed to make the issue of pro-Chinese diplomacy one of its core platforms in the coming election. @MaxGemini

United States of America

President Trump, makes a long speech on the White House lawn asking the American people to set aside their differences with the Chinese and work together for a better future. He assures the American public that he only wants the best for this great country and that China has the same interests as them. After concluding his speech, he allows the Director of NASA to make the major announcement of the day; NASA was being disbanded, as was the CNSA, and both were being reformed into the Chino-American Joint Space Program (CAJSP). This was taking effect immediately and the Mars mission would not merely have American astronauts on it- it would be an American program, as well as a Chinese one. This should hopefully soothe the right wing as they are reassured that they are not being used by China. [[MOD PLEASE]]

China

Chinese general secretary make the same type of speech announcing the integration.

Meanwhile Chinese engineers begin to fly over to the US as they happily begin work on refurbishing the space shuttles with improved hardware.
