Swiss Confederation

President Dietrich has decided to, with of course the say of the people, elongate the presidential term from just a year to half a decade. This, he has argued, shall allow various leaders to push their agenda further.

The agricultural programs are put at the bottom of the agenda as Switzerland is facing more cropland then needed. They also fear for the safety of their neighbor, France, and Poland. Now the government has decided to start their own space project, and has decided to send a manned rocket to mars, independent from the Chinese mission. Since the country has no means for war and little need for agriculture, a lot of money is invested in the program and several rockets are constructed and deconstructed to maximize the safety of the astronauts and prevent human error. The Republic of India

EAkHbROHXBwUhFx3vBTTtUlnr9R0VNEgfCYxjm81

India had grown steadily over the past few years. Although Britain’s exit from the EU hurt the economy, India’s populace and companies did not falter. Outsourcing from major foreign companies meant a steady flow of money into the country, which could be taxed to further improve public services and fund government projects.

Diplomats from Switzerland and Australia would be allowed to speak. [[I’ll PM you my Skype, we can talk there.]]

Diplomats would then be sent to Canada [[@Vanir]], China [[@taketheshot]], and Japan [[Chamo]], to speak about trade and more.

As more and more terrorist and Pakistani forces begin to rally at the Pakistan-India border, Prime Minister Deepak would call for more troops to be stationed at the border, to mirror the enemy’s movements. In addition, diplomats would be sent to Turkey [[@sneaky]] to discuss the anti-terrorism league.

Additionally, India’s best engineers and researchers would be called to duty, conducting research on a new infantry suit, to better protect the servicemen in their duty. [[5 pages]]

United States of America

President Trump, makes a long speech on the White House lawn asking the American people to set aside their differences with the Chinese and work together for a better future. He assures the American public that he only wants the best for this great country and that China has the same interests as them. After concluding his speech, he allows the Director of NASA to make the major announcement of the day; NASA was being disbanded, as was the CNSA, and both were being reformed into the Chino-American Joint Space Program (CAJSP). This was taking effect immediately and the Mars mission would not merely have American astronauts on it- it would be an American program, as well as a Chinese one. This should hopefully soothe the right wing as they are reassured that they are not being used by China. [[MOD PLEASE]]

The American public is aflame with the decision to disband such a historic organization as NASA and replace with, what many on the right perceive, to be a globalist move and a step away from American self-determination. Instead, a full on inner-party coup is underway as the Republican National Convention approaches. Delegates from across the nation pledge their support to young Senator Marco Rubio as the next Republican Candidate, vowing that President Trump will never see a second term as he continues on this path of globalization, the very opposite of his campaign platform from 2016. The Democrats announce their candidate as well at their Democratic convention, California governor Gavin Newsom. A young, energetic man from the state of California, he promises change on a large scale and also appeals to the anti-Chinese sentiment, refusing wide-spread cooperation with them and the reinstatement of NASA. The coming American election would be one of great interest, especially for the Chinese who now may face all their diplomatic work in the United States coming apart. [This election is important, I'll let you RP it out but keep in mind Trump is now essentially a candidate that's lost his base and has very little support because of such policies].

The term limit adjustment is met with modest approval, though there are certainly skeptics and worry that this may just be a power play by Dietrich, those these voices are primarily among the minority. Instead, most of the public's focus shifts to the new space program and the excitement which that holds. However, there are many voices of dissent, or at least disapproval, in the execution of the project. A chief argument is the non-inclusion of other European Union member states. Why not conduct such operations through the European space program and cut the cost as well as human effort of such an undertaking? The European Space Agency has a proven track record of success and many Swiss, both in the general public and in parliament, argue that it may be the best route to take in regards to the space program. It also gives Switzerland an issue to take leadership on within the European Union, something it has struggled to do since joining the Union.

A woosh of air vents into space the Mars landing vehicle is slowly backed away by the american pilot as the Chinese commander reads out the final checklist

Astronauts from South Korea, Japan, Canada, USA and China lay strapped into the small vehicle as the engines fire and it begins to descend into the atmosphere. The fires of the foreign world seared the spacecrafts heat shield as it sailed across the the midday martian sky.

As the craft began to slow the descent engines activated and small drogue chutes began to deploy. Far on earth Chineese flight controllers sit beside their american comrades monitoring the various systems and hoping everything goes alright. The main chutes begin to open and the landing legs deploy. The screens inside the lander continue moving the altimeter reading

A gentle bump is felt as the suspension activates and the craft come to a soft touchdown

As soon as all the systems are verified and shut down Chinese astronaut Ji Lowchan opens the hatch and steps onto the metal base of the lander. To the awe of the world the Chinese astronaut hops onto the surface and begins to speak

"It all began just 50 years ago with a small step and a giant leap...

Today we take another of each, as we begin to find our stride."

With that he presses the Chinese flag onto the surface and the landers camera begins to transmit the landing video back to earth as the other astronauts clamber out and hop around.

The Commonwealth of Australia

2000px-Australia_stub.svg.png

Australia announces publicly the signing of a series of pacts with Indonesia, it's longtime rival! These pacts include promises of mutual research agreements, a military alliance, and free trade!

Seeing that the states of Oceania are receptive to the idea of a union, Australia calls for a summit between the Oceanic states to be held in Perth. ((TO INTERACT WITH MOD))

The pleads from the pacific islanders are heard, and are answered. Australia would allow these islanders to create their own settlements in the Northern Outback, and would even provide financial, shipping, and medical aid to allow for them to do so. Various religious institutions from Australia would also attempt to aid in the cause of resettlement as well. However, Australia's one stipulation to this is that these peoples would have to identify as Australian themselves, adopt Australian citizenship, and prove to be productive members of society.

----------

The task force is still at the ready, waiting for Argentina's response to calls for a peaceful summit between they, Indonesia, and Brazil. Training continues.

Meanwhile, the new recruits are scheduled to be physically trained, and be put through rigorous periods of bootcamp. Although the cost might be great, no cost is too great for Australia's defense and that of it's neighbors, or so the government declares. Australia plans to cover the cost of both the training, and the research programs, through a series of mining ventures in the most mineral-rich parts of the country, and in lucrative investments made in Brazil [@Draeris] as a member of M.A.P.

The United Nations 2020 General Assembly

"Welcome nations of the world to the 2020 United Nations general assembly. It is truly humbling to be in the presence of so many great men and women, and I am anxious to see what fruits this meeting of the great nations of the world will bear. We have many issues to discuss, none more pressing than the crisis in South America, and I ask that all of you address each with an open mind. Let me remind you all that this organization was formed as an organization for peace; perhaps the greatest peace project in the history of mankind. With that in mind, we must all make choices that maintain the peace, while also being fair to all involved parties in any issue. Anyway, with all of that aside I will let the first few speakers take the floor."

Kevin Rudd, the first Australian and ninth Secretary General of the United Nations, exits the podium as a young, female clerk steps up to the podium.

"Our first issue will be the British proposal to make the economic profiles of multinational nations available to all auditing organizations, with a universal method of taxation being instituted to close loopholes in regards to corporate tax havens and international tax evasion. All nations are expected to vote on this matter."

[ ] Yay, provide the information of all multi-national corporations in order to prevent corporate tax havens.
[ ] Nay, do not provide the information of all multi-national corporations in order to prevent corporate tax havens.
*[X] indicates a marked vote

"Voting on this issue is now open."

"The next issue present for the General Assembly is the issue of the rising conflict in South America. After a meeting of some non-partial U.N. security experts, several approaches have been suggested as a path to take. Today two will be proposed, though do not hesitate to present your OWN solutions for which we may vote upon."

[ ] In order to preserve peace, threaten the Brazilians with U.N. military action as well as economic sanctions which will greatly hamper its already volatile economy. Such an action will require a 60% voting majority to deploy military forces, though any sort of victory will enact economic sanctions.

[ ] In order to preserve peace, require the Argentinian government to cede a small strip of land along the border for starting the conflict with war games and hope the Brazilian government will accept such a concession as enough to stop any further military escalation. This is at the cost of a potential humanitarian crisis in the region.

"Prior to voting on this issue, we will invite the
Brazilian President to make a speech before the general assembly in order to state his case. Since Argentina is not represented, it is requested that the United Kingdom make a statement on the Argentinians behalf."
[Do not cast your vote for this issue until the UK and Brazil have made their speech, I'll open voting in a new post]

"These are all of the issues presented to the United Nations General Assembly at the present time. Should any other nation wish to present an issue to the assembly, you may take your time here at the podium.

The floor is now open."

----- OOC -----

Welcome to our new United Nations system. Essentially, it's a way of adding more political maneuvering into the game as well as a means of "attacking" another player without necessarily going to war. It should be interesting to see how you guys conduct yourselves in this new arena. Here are some rules.

A total of 5<---- issues can be voted on by the United Nations General Assembly at a time, per session. The General Assembly lasts for roughly 5 pages, though this is a lose restriction as there are sure to be some hot issues.

When addressing the United Nations, please utilize the following header:
[!] U.N. - [COUNTRY NAME] [!]

So that it is clear that you addressing the U.N and it's hard to miss. You will also vote underneath this header.

You guys can propose a vote for something, if its reasonable I'll put it forth to the rest of the assembly by simply stating "voting is open" on said issue.

Go head now, get to diplomacy.

CHINA

@Chamo

All defenses are allowed to be placed in china and china does nothing to aid north Korea in this situation. All trade with North Korea has ceased cutting off energy arms and food. The border is also closed. China puts all of its strategic bombers on standby and special operations groups begin to drill.

[!] UN - UNITED KINGDOM [!]

With a short cough and scrape of the chair the elderly and polite British delegate rises - his title an obscure lordship - and begins to address the hall.

"My country has a proud, proud history of international interventionism. In Kosovo and Sierra Leone the acts of a British government helped to save thousands of lives and avoid potentially devastating humanitarian issues. The British intervened, often with the aid of the United Nations, to help protect the rights of many citizens. We must also remember the awful, truly deplorable, scenes in Rwanda when the U.N. failed to take action, a fault that all of us must bear, and the consequences of that.

The response offered by the Brazilian state to Argentinian wargames is ridiculous. While to even perform such, and label them as 'games', is a childish and provocative act, the Brazilians have responded with a clearly prepared plan. Let me be the first to tell this convention that this appears to be not an act of self defence but rather one of cold-blooded, pre-planned warmongering!

What right have the Brazilians to demand political union with another free and prosperous nation and then, when refused, to launch an invasion? Are we cravens or fools to sit by as democratic freedoms fought for by so many of our ancestors are eroded so that the Brazilian people will have more lumber, more dollars - a larger market to export too? No! No; we shall not allow ourselves to witness what may seem merely as a first step towards violence, but which may become a precursor to the most awful acts of human nature.

The United Kingdom does implore all delegates that would count it as a friend or ally, all delegates which desire to see a prosperous and growing world, to vote with it on this motion to install sanctions against the Brazilian government. We cannot, must not, fall prey to the weakness of our erstwhile predecessor, the League of Nations, that would bark and not bite in those dark days of the 1930s.”

The mandarin takes a seat again, this time casting his vote for the former motion with no speech.

[X] Yay, provide the information of all multinational corporations in order to prevent corporate tax havens.

Though the global reaction is generally jubilant and positive, many Americans view this as a symbol of more control being exerted by the Chinese. The image of one flag, the Chinese flag, being planted on the moon is used as a symbol of the subjugation of NASA under the CNSA and it rallies even more support to both the Republican and Democratic cause, and away from Donald Trump. Both Rubio and Newsom use this to attack Donald Trump and the weakness of his administration.

While still waiting for EU response due to French opposition to a united army, the Dutch government invests money into its Universities of Eindhoven and Delft as they begin a lengthy project of researching new ways of computing and robotics as well as neural science. This aims to lead to producs that have thusfar only been science-fiction, Robotic Anesthetics, or as they would be known in pop culture: Cyberlimbs. These mechanical limbs would replace limbs that have been lost or disabled due to accidents or due to damage to the spine the ability to regain the use of those lost motoric functions. INDONESIAN MOD POST

The diplomatic situation in the two nations is relatively stable, though there is a fair amount of unrest in Malaysia due to Islamic extremisim and rising ethnic tensions. There is a fair amount of exploitation to be done there, though any intervention could be met with serious condemnation by the regional powers of Japan and China. Singapore though would be hard to judge as a relatively secluded nation with a lack of many internal issues and a very strong economic situation.

 La République Française

France was still a great power. Her military was one of the strongest in the world. Her economy was one of the largest and most prosperous. Her global clout was considerable, holding amiable relations with a great many Francophone nations and former colonies. She was a key member of the UNSC, NATO, and the EU.

Which is why France would not totally give up her sovereignty, and why she would not allow others' to be given up too, by surrendering control of her military. The people, and the President, would not stand for it. Consequently, François Hollande's reply to Germany idea for a united military would be as follows:

"To Chancellor Lucke,
Your plans for the democratisation of the EU parliament are indeed noble, and we accede wholly.
However, the federalisation of the militaries of the many member states of the EU is something we cannot support. France is for closer union between the peoples of Europe, but to surrender such an integral part of national sovereignty as a country's military is too extreme. This is especially pertinent for France, as the strongest military in the Union with global commitments beyond the EU's scope.
Furthermore we find that this proposal is quite unnecessary, given that the vast majority of the EU are NATO members and so any external threats will already be met with a unified response, with the addition of our extra-EU allies, such as the US, the UK, and Canada.

The French government is adamant on this matter, and will exercise its right to veto if this proposal is attempted to be passed.

We do strongly hope that our decision will not lessen the strong relations our two countries and governments have, and that we can continue cooperating for the foreseeable future for our mutual prosperity.

Yours sincerely,
François Hollande."

The letter is also sent to all other EU nations.

In other matters of foreign policy, France makes a strong open condemnation of Brazil's unwarranted aggression toward Argentina. It also sends missives to their fellow UNSC permanent members, the US, the UK, China and Russia, suggesting they do the same.

Hollande also accepts Japan's invitation and agrees to join them in the sanctions of the DPRK.

France agrees to help fund the Dutch naval project, paying for a proportion of the cost that is equal to the French share of the total EU GDP.

On the domestic front, the agriculture industry's troubles troubled François. A stimulus package is injected, with focus being placed on those on the verge (or in) bankruptcy in order to bail them out, and ensure that food production doesn't become an issue [MOD PLS].

The French government also bolsters research into the materials sector. Specifically, a large investment is made into graphene research, with the aim of allowing the mass production of it, and will place an international patent on the method of production. [5 PAGES]

Investment is made into research into new armour for land vehicles and infantry, composed mainly of  layers of graphene. Taking advantage of the self-repairing nature of graphene, the layers will also have inert hydrocarbons between in order to allow for a self-healing armour. The armour will also be have a multi-layer coating that mitigates the chemical reactivity and electric conductivity of graphene, and prevents absorption of oxygen and water. Such armour will be exceptionally strong, far more so than any other currently available material, never mind armour, and will allow for a great deal of heat dissipation meaning the tanks are far less likely to overheat. The Republic of Brazil

In all essence, war was good for Brazil. It has brought them back into relevance, back at the table of the major powers; and many deals were struck. The M.A.P was fully in action, as Australian and Indonesian high commands joined the panic room in Sao Paulo to orchestrate the offensive. This wasn't a war they would lose, even with the United Kingdom involved.

The 200.000 Brazilian troops, accompanied by 200 towed artillery and 250 tanks, by now reached the Argentine installations. A rain of artillery would ensue, then followed by armoured divisions taking down the rest. In the third phase, assisted by air support, the troops would capture Santa Fe and Resistiance.

In the meantime, the routed submarines would take a large detour towards the approaching Australian & Indonesian fleet, preparing for a next impending strike to aid in.

New York, 2020, UN Speech

d11f8ddb924a2ca3a10ce51426c96731.gif

"--May I remind the delegates in these United Nations, how and why this conflict with Argentina came to be, and why so many valiant Brazilians are fighting in it as we speak. I understand that due to the diplomatic games, the play of rhethoric and the conflict of interests has caused for dire amounts of misinformation and hearsay; but we in Brazil believe steadfastly that the truth will always prevail.

And the truth, is this. Right before our own declaration of war, Argentina ventured our waters with a grand navy and started to threathen the national security and integrity of Brazil. While the meaning of this may have been lost in translation, and for my Portuguese tongue I am sorry, but I ask the English delegation this; Wouldn't you have done the same?

If a Russian or Chinese fleet stood at your coast, firing cannons, dispatching helicopters and sailing with ships perfectly capable of launching ICBM's, perfectly capable of transporting massive amounts of infantry, aircraft and armoured vehicles. Only to then afterwards mobilize to your very border once you scare them off from your waters, isn't this seemingly a threat to your security if that was to happen?

Here in Brazil, we couldn't allow such outrageous acts to go unanswered. The Republic has always maintained a cohesive attitude towards its UNASUR partners. But when Argentina decides to sail into your waters and behave extremely hostile and threathening, answer a mere scare with a full-scale mobilization, that is when the cohesive atittude comes to an end. And all that, for a mere offer for an union.

We do not ask for your empathy, as Brazil today speaks from a position of strength, With truth and justice at our side, I can count on the intelligence and rationality of my fellow colleague heads of state, and see a restoration of order and progress in the Argentine Republic."

Brazil votes no on the Tax Haven resolution.

The Mutually.Assured.Prosperity coalition, chaired by Brazil as of now, entered bilateral talks with the People's Republic of China, and made some fruitful deals.

- China would allocate 500 million to both Brazil & Indonesia for infrastructural investment.

- China would enter a non-aggression pact with the M.A.P coalition.

- China would provide the Republic of Brazil with a sattelite for a classified price, with a classified purpose.

- China would outsource high end services & products from the Brazilian or Australian market, while investing heavily in the favela reformation with other Chinese entrepreneurs; primarily to gain their own place as manufacturing job suppliers.
