Feedback on the Administration

Thomas

Recommended Posts

Following on from this thread, I wish to start a discussion to understand the player's feelings and opinions towards the Administration team. Feel free to let loose and tell us how you feel, though I do request that you formulate your feedback appropriately. Feedback such as "you suck" isn't really something we can reply to, so try to use your words.

Any shitposting will be removed to keep this thread easy to read for both player and staff alike.

The administration hasn't been trustworthy for years, but you expect people to treat you like good parents that should be obeyed and respected. Why?

We don't expect or want people to treat us like their parents. I am fully aware that previous iterations of Staff, and Administration have been untrustworthy. I/We in no way demand your trust, that isn't fair of us. We're not asking for that. We want to earn that trust back, and while it's difficult to do so, we're trying. I'd personally like to be given the benefit of the doubt, but that's not something I'm going to ask for or expect. We have to pay for the sins of our fathers, in the metaphorical sense, and hopefully in time this mentality will change.

Man, I honestly thinks that players are all just angry and GM is nothing but a question of status and power. You don't exactly need GM unless you want to help, and there could always be that one reason because you want to become a GM.

I wonder, why does one wants to become a GM? And, in most cases, why does one wants to return to the position of GMship? Power? Position? Helping his people? Helping the server? If yes, in what way? There's no reason to get all angry and everything. We need to remember that this is a game, and, want it or not, getting sassy doesn't contributes for a more friendly community, and we all have to remember that. Thanks!

Care less about Admin PR. The loud voices you hear don't represent most of us, and nobody seriously believes those making long threads that clearly misrepresent a variety of staff actions are anything that ought to be taken seriously.

Likewise, while I was Admin I must admit that my batch was pretty weak-willed when it came to leniency toward folks who were clearly just trying to piss off other people, yet not doing anything that bad. Those people should suffer harsher punishments than we dished out, we banned quite a few people and then promptly unbanned them who we frankly should not have (not to say that every unban was wrong, of course), and didn't level bans because they're just joking around. Folks being shitty should be handled more harshly.

Y'all are doing pretty good all things considered, probably better than the cohort I was with did as a group, though I hope that Ever being done with exams will result in us seeing her more.

Lmao, people will always try to act like anarchists online no matter what you do.

I can tell you're doing a fine job Tahmas and the rest of the team too, only thing people disagree with is the raiding rules from what I heard.

I have never envied the role. There was a time when I was a team leader that I looked over at the quality of the administrators, and back to the shackles about my wrists, and thought "yeah I'd be a great Admin." But I am glad that I never pursued it. If I had done then I wouldn't still be lurking around. I would have flamed out in anger against the antagonising attitude that has swept like a sickness through this community. I would have sought vengeance upon those who have bullied players. I would have enforced great limitations on groups that do not welcome new players and create an environment for them to weave their own story. And I probably would have fired way too many staff members at the slightest sign of incompetence until claims could rightfully be laid upon me that I have taken control and filled positions with my friends.

So my feedback is this. You know that you are separate from the players because you must be. You must look forward, respond maturely, and act with the weight of 1000 different opinions in consideration. There is only so much trust that you will ever be granted when working with a young audience. Please continue making decisions as a collective. Pause before responding. Don't be rash. And for God's sake, have a cup of tea already!

Also, what Ski said below me. The forum activity is way WAY down, and what is happening on it is usually not community building or story progression. This place is meant to tie us together across timezones and beyond the limitations of our IG circle of influence.

From the years I have been here, you're not a real Admin unless some brat hates you for no reason. So have ears to the feedback. But then take a walk and do something else. In reality a lot of what will be spoken in this thread will be inconsequential to the future of LotC.

Oh also, y'all should be stricter with the forums in my opinion. It's very difficult to do, but if you ever want to improve player retention, the forums need to become less of a cancer. I know that's hard and something you already think, @Tahmas, but at this point I feel like a lot of our playerbase who have feedback in opposition to that of the very loud, aggressive group don't post out of fear of just being hounded and harassed, and in turn it's narrowed the group active here and limited the content we see.

You're pretty bad because you haven't made Smawton a GM.

Apart from that, I see nothing wrong with the Adminship.

But a little more communication and feedback for the community wouldn't go a miss.

My words echo some of those above me. These long ass 'feedback' posts by no means represent the majority. They represent the minority who just happen to have really loud mouths. Most of us are pretty happy, from what I gather. I highly doubt much of anyone takes that other thread seriously.

you can't make statements like this without the numbers to back you up, why do you think I love polls so much?

It's definitely a thankless and difficult job, for both GMs and every other staff team alike. People put their time away and into the server, it's remarkable how much time some people actually dedicate to this server. I'm proud of the GMs on my Team, and I'm proud of other players on other teams too. I think if we make a few tweaks here and there, we can do something good.

It's difficult, it's often times that people wish to please both sides for fear of being convicted a villain. I'm not sure on how to aid this while ensuring that everyone is equally addressed.

To my knowledge, @HB_and the rest of the new War Team are working on this! I'd imagine if I am correct, posts will come soon.

I'm aware of this, and as are the rest of the Administration. Just because a group is a minority, doesn't mean their opinion isn't worth listening too, though.
