New Player Assistance

Hello fellow members of the LOTC community. As many of you know, the Application Team strives towards getting new players acquainted with the server. This isn’t simply about player retention or being recognized as part of a staff team, but because we strive to promote a sense of belonging and security for every addition to the community. Our desire is to make sure absolutely every white-listed person feels comfortable and aware that they always have others to turn to when they have a question, concern, or simply wish for an individual to role-play with. We want them to feel that they have the opportunity to immerse their character in various interactions and role-play within their most fitting area of our wonderful pixel world.

Recently Fireheart has implemented a new system in which we send accepted applicants to older players that would help get them set up in their designated area of the map. That system has been put on hold shortly, while we simply don’t have enough people participating from different nations and such to get good results. That’s why the team has decided to reach out towards the rest of the community, and ask for assistance in this server wide project. If interested to be added as a volunteer, we simply ask that you fill out our mini questionnaire below. A player who participates will be expected to occasionally take on new players and be the first person they role-play with. The main idea is to help them find their place on the server in a fun and interactive manner.

As this isn’t an official staff position and is completely voluntary, you obviously aren’t required to help every time a new player comes to you. We just ask that you be kind and at least direct them to someone else that you think could help, including any of our Application Team members. The AT will always be around to provide direction and aid to anyone that needs it. If you don’t want to participate anymore, simply tell one of us and you will be removed from the list. After submitting your application in the replies to this thread, we will get a hold of you if you are chosen. If you would like to submit a private response, contact myself or LadyParion.

(If Fireheart has already implemented you into this system, no need to re-apply!)

How will you go about assisting new players?: Answer their questions, show them around, explain the world to them, magic, nations, politics, people, cultures, language, whatever they need and want to know. Introduce them to the right people for what they are looking for to the best of my abilities. I am an old player, so I should know my way around.

Addendum: I have been in the AT too!

How will you go about assisting new players?: When I was a new player, if had a difficult time finding a good place to roleplay actively. I hope to try and create a small group of commoners to bring activity back to Metz. I believe the best place to start a human character is in a town, where they can experience how other roleplay and work together. Once they get a good feeling of how the plugins and roleplay works, they are set for new paths on LotC. I personally found myself starting a commoner/peasant character in the beginning because it is simple and relaxing. I hope to give new coming players the same experience.

How will you go about assisting new players?: To show them all there is to offer down the path their going, and to answer questions. As well as get them acquainted with essentials that they'll need and to get them with the people they'll need to talk to get started. Show them around as well, as it can be confusing as of where to go.

How will you go about assisting new players?: I've been doing 'spook' and noble RP for pretty much my entire time on the server. Playing mob bosses, noble kids, and finally a Necromancer. I can teach new players how to be a better, decent to roleplay with villain that doesn't leak edge, how to roleplay fight (I like to think I'm good at this.), and how to do roleplay well in general. If they want to know how to be a spook or a noble, I think I can help them along.

I'm not available all the time, since I work and go to school, but I'm on almost every night. If nothing else I check Skype constantly throughout the day.

How will you go about assisting new players?: Being a Wilven Sanctuary Monk, it's already a duty to go and help new players, though however, i'd like to think that awaiting at the gates of Haelun'or since i'm usually there, or the Cloud Temple, to greet them and help the new players around with roleplaying, the roleplay channels, and fitting them in to the community basically.

How will you go about assisting new players?:

I can give them a home in Norland and set them up (Food, Gear, ETC.), or bring them to whatever nation/group they wanna go to, and point them to the faction leader or officer so they can be set up ASAP. I can also Role-play with them and hopefully get them invested in LoTC before they decide to just log off and never come back on. :)

How will you go about assisting new players?: I would go out of my way to roleplay with them to give them the proper experience they need. I'd teach them how to properly emote and assist them in properly roleplaying their character. When I first started it was hard to find people who actually would roleplay with a new person so I'd be that helping hand they need. Helping them by giving them a community to roleplay with is what I think would be a good start.

How will you go about assisting new players?: I can answer questions, teach them basic commands, show them how the chat works, give them a friend, show them the ins-and-outs, teach them what is and isn't normally accepted, and, using my spook, I could teach them how to respond to Villain Roleplay, as that is something no one really teaches. I remember one of my first villain moments. I was very very new, and I had no idea how to respond. Thankfully, the villain was willing to walk me through what to do. I've seen villains that take advantage of new players and don't help them out at all, and I'd be more than willing to teach them. Of course, I can help out with much more than Villain Roleplay. That was just an example.

How will you go about assisting new players?: I think the best way to help new players is to integrate them into our community, being the GK of the Dwarves I come across it a lot with helping new players, so I would definitely be up for the task. More then anything new players need to feel like they have a sense of belonging amongst the playerbase, and thus I will mostly focus on that.

How will you go about assisting new players?:

Help them learn the ropes, the more non-obvious commands, learn how to RP naturally, which I had a lot of trouble with when I first joined, and how to get along OOCly, no matter the direction of RP. Which mostly all comes back to making sure everybody has an enjoyable experience, which is what matters in the long run.
