Ecclesiastical Condemnation of the Korvassan Wedding

13th of Owyn’s Light, 1775

It has come to our attention that a professed Canonist, Sapphira Loretta Dunham, has publicly announced her intention to marry Sultan Al-Mujjadid of Korvassa, a pagan of the Rashidun faith. While the followers of the Iman Al’Rashidun are our brothers in humanity, they do not obey the laws of the Holy Scrolls or the Church as established by the Exalted. Consequently, it is not suitable that a Canonist should seek to marry one: this leads to a confusion of religious beliefs, and is a violation of our Covenant of Purity sworn by Exalted Owyn. The very foundation of our faith is that all humanity be united in one religion: thus, if permitted, such sacrilegious unions will inevitably lead to our destruction.

Beyond even this grievous error, Ms. Dunham has previously contracted a marriage which was dissolved through the mercy of the Exalted. As the recipient of a dissolved sacrament, she must receive pontifical approval in future unions, in order to ensure better judgement in the decision to marry. This requirement was made known to Ms. Dunham and the public in the writ of dissolution. Naturally, as her intended union is invalid under the canon law, our approval is not granted.

Despite our earnest pleas that the Sultan Al-Mujjadid  convert to Canonism for his beloved’s sake, or that Ms. Dunham withdraw her offer of marriage, both of these options were refused. Indeed, Ms. Dunham herself questioned the truth of the Canonist faith during our embassy to the Sultanate, and we were informed their future children would not be raised as Canonists. She has been offered all opportunity to recant her sinful actions, and has refused.

Therefore, regrettably, we must excommunicate Sapphira Loretta Dunham from the body of the Church of the Canon. It is forbidden that any cleric celebrate a sacrament upon her, she is prohibited from entering lands owned by the Church, and the faithful are engendered to shun and reject her until such a time as she recants. Finally, the planned ceremony involving Ms. Dunham and the Sultan Al-Mujjadid is pronounced anathema for all believers. The faithful are forbidden to attend or to offer any support for this unholy venture.

When such a time comes that Ms. Dunham sees fit to correct her sinful behavior, she is permitted to contact the Holy See by letter.

In Nomine Dei et Horenum,

High Pontiff James II

“When has church law ever superseded imperial law? At this point, the church is just trying to call for people to ruin her life.” Wilheim chuckled to himself within his attic-bedroom, thusly folding away the missive and setting it aside to burn later, since there was no fireplace in the attic for which he can throw the letter. Other than that, he could have sworn that Imam Rashidun was recognized as a faith of the empire, and was supposed to be tolerated.

“I wasn’t aware the church owned land other than a little plot, hopefully they don’t harass us either.”

The cardinal Erasmus would nod as he read the document. “A declaration that is fitting of the woman,” he would comment to one of his monks at the monastery of St. Thomas. “She made vicious remarks upon the Church. She claimed that she was acting for the betterment for her people, yet the actions in which she will be performing will lead her people astray.” He sighs as he places the statement down. He would then sign the cross. “May GOD lead her down the right path once more, and if not, I hope her people will find their way on their own.”

Saeed ibn Hamza shruged at the declaration “I guess more falafel for those who decide to come.” he went to place the document into a binder labeled something along the lines of ‘un-important announcements’

Grand Imam Antar would sigh looking to his companions “It seems I must clear their misunderstanding and error...”

“Might be murdered for this comment, but this to myself.” Sabrina Halcourt remarked to herself as she spoke out loud in her room in the Barony of Artois. As Lady Halcourt sat on her vanity brushing her hair softly, the woman opened her mouth to speak in a flashy tone. “Well how funny of our church to expel and shun this holy unity when the church has allowed incest and such in the past. I must say this is sad for the couple to be shunned for their love but no more all are allow to love in some way! I follow my lord of course but.” She’d pause taking a deep breathe and then going on to continue her statement in a now very serious and slightly sorrowful voice tone. “Did our lord say any such comment to in the holy scrolls that the clergymen shall be able to dive themselves into the politics or other nation’s subjects which are at least allied with our beautiful Orenian Empire?I know our empire was built upon our lord and his heralds but this is now, we have move from those times. Clergy shouldn’t have power over any citizen, they are here to spread the name of the lord and only that. Have I sinned of opinion? A escort to be called as for opinions, well at least this is to myself and only to myself, as if in public I would have been hanged as I am a woman.”

Father Manfried nods in approval as he looks upon the document. A warm smile befalls his features as his eyes travel over the words before placing it aside near his bed in the basilica, completing his prayers before slumber with a particular end, “And may our Lord Godani on high bless His High Holiness James II as he continues his work as Vicar of God Himself. May the Supreme Pontiff be bestowed a long and healthful life as he continues to serve Thee in the Seventh Sky, imparting Thy wisdom unto Thy faithful in this mortal plane. May Thy light shine through the High Pontiff and therefore shine upon us as we all serve under His Holiness’s guidance and may Sapphira Dunham be offered Thy scorn but soon guided on the path of redemption by Thy light, to repent before Thee for her grevious sins.” Soon reciting his usual conclusion before God Almighty in the dark of night, “Lastly, I make my solemn vows to Thee, Lord God. To serve Thee as a presbyter of Thy word and defend Thy Holy Scripture ‘till my dying breath. May my vows to Thee remain ever eternal, present, future, in the Seven Skies, and at the end of times. Amen.” The young man of the cloth, donning his bed wear, would soon ease into the comfortable yet simplistic bed within the shared chamber of brothers. He pulled the covers over him and fell asleep, happy that the faith remained ever strong in the hands of the united Church, Manfried warmed by His light.

Blessed High Pontiff Jude would smirk from the Seven Skies, looking down at the proclamation, turning to his friend, the Venerable Vladimir “What work I did with the Rashid-folk, hmm?”

”Must be terribly confusing for that Pontiff why anyone would choose another religion over his. Not like the Canonist church has a sordid history of corruption, tolerating murders and injustice against past leaders, et cetera.” Yung pup Lily Mournstone would comment idly upon reading the decree. ”I loved an excommunicated man and I’ll never regret it, I hope she finds love in her new religion and husband, gods be good.”

“Truth is not decided by a majority vote,” says Pius. “It is true and draws strength not from any external source, but from itself, and we have a duty toward it whether every man or no man pays attention to it.”

“The Canonist Church is not justified because her children do not sin or are incorrupt, she justified because they do sin and are corrupt,” replies Pius to the p*gan. “Evidence for, not against the Church, is found in the sin and folly of her members. For indeed, any other organisation governed with such malice, incompetence and effeminacy would have long since died, and would have barely lasted a fortnight, but here we are with a Church that has never compromised the actual purpose for her existence.”

Conrad does not hear any of this, but he knows apostasy to be a serious crime in Imperial Law, and smiles the Sun’s Smile at the unity of Church and Empire on this matter.

“Coming next, interracial marriages.” Ruathar chuckled and carried on with his day. “A blessed wedding to both of you. Velulaei y nae ilumeh.”
