Mod Team and War Update

Hey everyone! I was waiting a bit to get some war things in order for this update, and obviously we had some other issues as well. That said, here’s what we were up to in the last two months as well as an update on war.

Announcements

War
It took a little bit longer than anticipated to get things sorted out, but the rule approval and technical side of war adjustments is finished. With these changes, war is officially unpaused.

 

War Eligibility

Siege Weaponry
Without getting too technical, siege weaponry will serve more unique purposes. Trebuchets will have a greater effect on walls, cannons will have a greater effect on siege equipment, and ballistas will have a critical effect on individual infantry.

War Eligibility

One of the larger problems with war has been the mass realm swapping ahead of conflict. Additional guards have been put in place to help stem that from the technical side in addition to adjustments to the protocol of how mods will process extra names.

You must have 20 30 hours of playtime as well as appropriate roleplay as a realm member for the past month to participate within a warclaim. In addition to playtime, players must have been part of a realm for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the first warclaim in order to be eligible for participation. Only your two most active personas with the highest number of hours within a realm are eligible.

 

Dynamic factors such as potential alts or participants with no roleplay reason basis for fighting may result in denial.

 

New players may be granted exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

  • We’ll eventually get more automation on the mod side of things, but the majority of the instructions are now outlined in the notion
  • We should prepare some kind of roster template and instructions for folks, so we don’t have more issues with war roster discrepancies in the future.
• Different pieces of siege equipment?
  • Start the discussion to potentially bring back the random chance of breakage to siege equipment to reduce spam.
  • Hold off on new stuff until we see how the changes to the current stuff do.
• Warzones
  • We’re going to hold off on putting anything super official together, and just wait until the next war to set one up. We can gauge interest then and get feedback from users.

  • Do we need a rule addressing babies (head item)?
    • We really only get asked once a year about folks stealing (kidnapping?) the items, and there’s a whole host of weird issues that would arise if we allowed it. We don’t really need such a niche rule clogging things up.
  • Redstone doors
    • It might be worth reviewing how we deal with redstone doors and such in the future.

IV. February/March Mod Meeting

  • More rally bells for nation capitals?
    • Not right now. It wouldn’t work cleanly with the plugin, and we’re not looking to increase the benefits for capitals even further.
  • Rule Changelog
    • Reinforce usage of the mod discord changelog channel and look to start using or remake the forum version.
  • Shared Forum Accounts
    • Nations and groups using alt forum accounts for official business is the only permissible instance of account info sharing on the forums.
  • Heists
    • Looking at potentially rewriting heists or at least rewording them.
  • Clarifying “Hostile Action” in region announcements for raid cooldowns
    • The intention is just for raids to cease, not other banditry, petty theft, etc. The announcement will be amended to reflect that.

State of the Team

Current TeamWe’ve had a big roster change since the last update. A big thank you to @Java17, @Rainalyn, and @HobbitForHire for all of the time and effort spent on behalf of the team. We’re also in the process of bringing on @Geckonawa, @AstriaS, and @Svyatgoroye!

Rule Clarifications & Reformatting (Ongoing): A review of the current rules looking to see where things could be confusing or otherwise require an amendment.

 

Forum Rule Changes: A review of forum rules and proposals for admin consideration given discussions.

 

Naval Warfare (Early Stages): System for naval effects, battles, and movement of armies.

 

Warzones & War Changes (Early Stages): Offering an optional addition to wars to have sides set up pvp zones to fight outside of warclaims and raids. Also the exploration of adding new things to war such as gear, new siege equipment, etc.

Afterword
As always, the rules of the server stand as both reference and guideline for how we should proceed, but they’re also flexible and should adapt with the times so we might provide the fairest, safest experience we can. Things can be changed, and it’s your help and feedback that lets us know how we can change things for the better. A big factor in how we adapt and introduce rules and systems is player feedback, so join the Moderation Discord if you want to give input on our active projects and anything else you’d like to see changed. After Thursday's mod meeting I have also elected to put Halt back on forced hiatus.
