I understand where both sides come from. But I will say, as someone who has been on lotc for many years now. If you want to roleplay somthing, there is nothing, I mean nothing that can stop you besides ooc server rule restrictions or staff.

Take the Qalasheen for example. We have no where to go, but we went to Alba and stirland and MANY many people can attest, that though a great deal of rp around alba sure is not perfect. WE MAKE THE ROLEPLAY ANF CHOOSE THE ROLEPLAY WE ARE APART OF!

We have roleplayed our deep culture rp, we roleplayed our deep religion rp, and rped our deep conflict rp and our deep family rp.

We choose it, we roleplay it and therefore impact other players around us to OUR standards. And if they refuse to meet our standards than we don't interact with them, because we find others to.

We are here to create a story. And tbh, not all parts in stories legendary epic moments. Sometimes the best parts in the story, and the minor details, the smaller rp. The one sentence emotes. Sometimes holds the greatest weights in a rp. Because its sometimes the unsaid things, the context of many tips prior.

Ik its a cheesy thing now. But you have to be the change you want. And push it hard. It's not easy.

I came back to lotc like a 3 months ago. By myself. And through my rp, my rp family grew from 1. To 20 heavy rpers. And im not even the rp leader, I hold no authorities besides what I am tasked to.

I try to be the change I want. And when I fail I dont mope about it, I push forward and correct what I may had done wrong. I realize some players not worth trying to change and focus my efforts else where but I dont just ignore them, I interact and love them.

Lotc is not just a place where we MAKE epic roleplay stories and develop charecters.

Lotc is a place where you develop as a person IN REAL LIFE, WE develop our out of charecter, charecter.

Ik many here who where the worst at rp, and common sense. Now they are some of the best roleplayers and smartest people I know. Because they pushed forward to change and be a change.

checked this in the morning and it had like 2 replies. not surprised to see it with 40something now.

my 2cents;

calling villainy 'bad' while having a green tag means you have the means to attempt and fix the issue but aren't
the empire is undeniably good - i've said this a lot. this empire isn't. its the only instance of 'empire of man' or 'oren' that is just unfun to be in unless you're human male noble kid.

every child being combat ready is legitimately stupid

centralization is not always good, and the current empire is a massive example of that.

saying alba "had" to host the activity is just wrong. you all chose to make it the center. grense could've gotten the build that alba got.

tl;dr: roleplay quality server-wide is either elite tier book-level writing or copy and paste slop with no soul. not an empire-only problem - it's everywhere. cant really enforce quality unless we make whitelists have serious writing samples, so there's no point bitching and moaning about it.

if i get plastered as an empire hater for saying this is the worst instance of an empire, i can live with it. i'm banned off the empire discord for calling out the usage of the ww2 iron cross, so clearly they don't really care about appearances, opinions or insights from those outside their circle jerks.

thank you xo31 for a rare sane post. unfortunately, it wont matter.

What you think is wrong and you have already lost. Multiracial communities exist because those communities themselves cannot form a consistent culture that attracts people so the selling point becomes "anyone can come here, you are welcome :)" in RP and they are often advertised as OOC safe spaces like in Elysium (we know how that turned out). It's more enticing to see a roleplay community driven by the roleplay world that gains momentum with the narrative and culture around it rather than it being a place to exist for, as you have put it in nicer terms, but I'll say more bluntly: a city of rejects where everyone is welcomed. I would be more jealous of a thriving community that is prosperous by its own merits rather than by the antithesis all-welcoming slop port city.

Hate and kill 'Suticans' all you want, it is just always ironic that people go out of their way to kill the 'Suticans' and just expect them to quit the server and then have a surprised Pikachu face when the 'Suticans' end up seeping into their community and Suticaifying it. Though for your last part, that is somewhat the beauty of the server, if I think IRPly or even OOCly a Nation is not worth investing RP effort in, I just simply don't go to it or invest effort. Personally, I just find it a waste of effort to complain and move on that x, y, z Nation needs to be IRPly and OOCly purged, if you have better RP then show it.

Given the track record of previous Empires and your logic, we should just shut down the current Empire before anything bad happens, like it has in the past. I'll get this directly sent to my admins, given the clear concern you have for the safety and protection of the LotC community and work out a solution before the next map.

Anyway, that aside, the problem comes down to the fact that people optimise the fun out of the server, and this is a larger problem with the gaming sphere in general that developers have to contend with. I'll just link the video, as it covers most of my talking points regarding it and I truthfully cbf to type it all out. The main problem to contend with is the 'rules' of the game that is LotC. When it comes to the consequences of Roleplay there is barely any real consequence. This is just purely due to the monk revival and the disconnect it causes. I don't necessarily want to argue for Monk Revival to get removed, as it has its place in a large community like LotC, but there is nothing worse than killing someone, even more so when you have specific reasons for doing so, and they continue to intrude on your RP. It all becomes a drain on the person on the receiving end of the 'hostile' RP, with literally no way to stop because they can just keep respawning and unless you can make a very, very good case for targeting to get them to stop.

It wouldn't be impossible to rally a giant amount of numbers to wipe out a Nation by rocking up one day and killing everyone in the Nation's city, but the next day they can monk revive, all that effort for something that would be a high risk, high reward doesn't pay off and someone can just write a missive detailing about the events while never being present. It, unfortunately, has merely become a player mindset issue that is the only solution, as quite a lot of the players truthfully RP quite selfishly as they treat other people as NPCs, which then just fuels those people being treated like NPCs and causes people to not actually RP with much effort and just provide low effort quip play. That isn't to say every RP instance you are in has to be perfect, but if you aren't putting in effort for EVERYONE to enjoy, idk just go play Elder Scrolls or something.

@Venomous_Pup I regret to inform you but you are fighting phantoms because I don't believe in what you're arguing against. I am not an empirebro and I dislike the OOC cliques that tend to form in them for similar reasons you've pointed out. Weirdos flock to places and people where their weird behaviours are tolerated which allows it to flourish, in a very significantly sized realm such as an empire it can becomes top-down instead where a weirdo can be put into a position of major RP and OOC influence where their behaviours can encourage others to imitate, closely resemble, or verbally support so that they fit within their clique. The issue isn't with these communities, it's the predisposition which normally isn't properly regulated against because people don't want to be totalitarian with their OOC communities (especially in communities that want to welcome everyone).

I won't argue too much on the first point, just that I never implied you were, and it still remains ironic. It's just always incredibly reductive to point to one community or behaviour type and just straight up say it is bad, because by your statement, they can permeate through to any community (it's not hard for them to lie about finding x, y, z disgusting to their friends). My main issue is that the way you stated it implies that there is a correlation between communities that position themselves to be open and having those types of issues, because again, it has happened through every community and requires constant vigilance to stop. I also just don't take anyone seriously when they spout this kinda stuff because 99% of the time it's just like they cry wolf all the time over some of the tiniest things and not any real degenerative behaviour that needs to be kept off the server, and most of the time they seemingly don't geuinely care for the safety of the server or people involved.

This is the principal thing right.

If you're conducting villainy, you have to consider the following things:

Intrinsic Motivation: Why is your character willing to break the law? Typically has to do with the character's own identity and outlook as an individual.

Extrinsic Motivation: Is your character being extrinsically coerced or motivated by somebody or something else?

To neatly tie up a subplot, there has to be a cohesive end to the role-play. In my view, if my character were to be executed by somebody, I'd stop attacking them unprovoked. Another example is if I heist somebody but die during the heist, it would be bad faith to keep on heisting that location when I've already died there. Some of these things are reinforced by rules, others are reinforced socially.

a more nuanced take on the whole thing thats pretty good.

I Generally abide by FAFO on my evil persona; if I do something on them, I am expecting and usually welcoming retribution bc it is a overtly evil character. If someone does something to them, and I can, I try to make an effort to retaliate as a demon probably would in their usually immortality, though never beyond any sort of death. If someone dies, thats it for the plot; I would not willingly return to re-villainize someone who went out of their way to retaliate and kill me, and I generally expect the same out of people on the "other side", which is typically why I make an effort to not just kill people; eventually I will run out of ppl to antagonize by my own internal rules and thats no fun for anyone, especially me.

In general Something Happens -> Something happens back. There is only really an issue if Nothing happens -> Something happens back [Metagaming, Metaplay, OOC trickling into rp, etc] or Something Happens -> Nothing happens back [Emotes getting ignored, ppl letting OOC influence RP, etc]. It's the classic give and take, but it never should come at the cost of someone being targeted or harassed [not that it HAS happened and this is vaugeposting, just as a general remark].

really it should be fun for everyone. I don't like the mechanics that encourage murderhoboing or banditting for soul fragments/whatever, but that doesn't mean you can't make it more fun through your RP if your mechanics permit you to not kill and still get it done. shoutout @BonesOfTheEarththis maniac terrorizes people on his demon :3

All I'm gonna say is that the first and only chance I got to rp in Alba as a darkspawn, it went from 2 v 4, to a 2 v 8 without a bell (it was not crowded at first, we literally scouted irp before) really quickly, and that it mostly contained child soldiers that ignored dspawn emotes of attacking in front of a mod. Apart from that, active nation.

I can't speak for all, but when I do dspawn RP, I try to put narrative into it, I try to create storylines that don't just end in one encounter as it is more of a you win some you lose some moment rather than "My char has this specific weapon you're weak to, I win you lose now gimme your loot ez". But that is what it seems to be nowadays so I digress lmao.

As for having nations that are welcoming to all isn't significantly a bad thing, not every rp has to be centralised to certain niche that majority follow.

This explains it really well, if you are upset that a particular nation exists because "they accept everyone", then simply take the same advice that is given when complain about a similar issue, simply don't go to that nation. If it doesn't speak to you, then simply walk away. But don't hate on it if it speaks to a certain audience.

Moderation is the team (alongside Administration) that has the most to do with Roleplay Guidelines and Mech Standards. ST (namely Lore Sect) are the nominal Green Tags for CRP rules and standards. Werewolf and I are on the Event Team, we are not the people who are intended to be Jannies, we are people who ensure that:

- Our Team Lead's events are acted out properly in a fair and transparent way.

- That builds are prepared.

- Disbursing event-related materials and affecting characters in long-term ways through RP narratives.

Werewolf and I have little to do with Roleplay Guidelines standards outside of our personal behavior and role-play, which I can assure you Werewolf is a very thoughtful person who often prioritizes others before himself. In fact, Werewolf, myself and others in our immediate friend group were always opposed in the past to many 'Empire' factions. This stint with him as the heir is a first time for him.

As for this complaint about the Iron Cross, I have never seen it, I looked up the symbol after seeing your comment. It was also a symbol of the Weimar Republic and the Prussian Army. On LoTC, this same symbol was used by GaiusMarius8 as a symbol for the Teutonic Order, which I can assure you was Prussian-inspired but had little to no WW2/Nazi connections you're ascribing to it. And before you jump to the whole "Well you're obviously a crypto-fascist too then", I'm going to make it abundantly clear I typically veer towards the Left on nearly every major political issue, because it seems to be a recurrent problem on here lately that people like to infer or make baseless assumptions about people they don't know because:
a.) They heard it from a peer who is mad at the person
b.) They wish to malign people who don't share their Minecraft views

I'm not really trying to wokescold you or anything, just offering you a contrary narrative because I really don't feel like your portrayal of ET in this instance is very fair given the huge difference in responsibilities between ET/LT or ET/Mods.

I agree with all of this minus "always fun" as a concept because while I do want to avoid making other people suffer on an out-of-character level, there is sometimes a point of no return where you're going to be forced to make a decision that will be unfun for other people to progress the plot. There are many times where I'm not pleased reading or watching something with other forms of media for instance, but those things stick with me. I can say the same thing about an old role-play between myself, Zarsies and Bokratz where my Herald of Xion was assassinated in 2015-2016 during a Blood Mage conference. It was not fun at all, but it was good role-play which progressed a narrative. The persona had overreached and was PK'd and then resurrected as an enslaved Lich as a consequence. The character never ended up being the same and was quickly dropped thereafter.

I agree about the mechanics with murderhobo/soul fragments. I fundamentally wish that soul fragments were not tied to a kill count in any fashion because it encourages very lackluster RP. I think killing players is fine so long as you have a good reason. I leave players I kill alone afterwards so long as they do not intrude on my own business - in that case my hand ends up forced because the person is still being an OP and I can't ignore it IRP.

the iron cross predates ww2 by like 120-ish years and is basically prussian. was first established in the early 1800s during the napoleonic wars (and its design based off irl medieval teuton insignia btw) and later managed to catch on in wider germany and be recognised as a german tradition because the prussian kings ended up becoming german emperors. it was kept in use for traditions sake in all other iterations of Germany since - hell the BUNDESWEHR OF THE MODERN GERMAN STATE STILL USES IT AS ITS EMBLEM TO THIS DAY. all this really doesn't matter when u realise that the Empire guys just really like Warhammer and took it from there though. ur just looking for an excuses to call them closeted nazi's atp.

don't have anything to say in regards to the neo-sutican issue other than that I think the empire should force them to either go live in slums as second class citizens or give them their own place somewhere so they don't pollute anything
