Telanir 6975 Share Posted June 24, 2013 You can't RP a large scale battle. It would be far too hectic. That's beside the point. I'm asking why the entire playerbase is participating in it if they don't like pvp on a rp server.

Dry Crackers 268 Share Posted June 24, 2013 That's beside the point. I'm asking why the entire playerbase is participating in it if they don't like pvp on a rp server. Mmm. . we understand the necessity of it as a method of conflict resolution? and, truth be told, battles are FUN. The problem arises when people would ocassionally rather NOT have a clicky-click fight and do something in-depth or in keeping with their character, and the thug goes "DENIED!" and kills you. Dyn 149 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Conversations can be particularly interesting, sleeping doesn't involve other people. While roleplay fighting can be interesting it doesn't bring our community together. It tears us apart. Please, speak for yourself. I've had roleplay fights that have ended with me and the opposition talking about how much we enjoyed the scene and how we hope we could do it again. LeRenardNoir 413 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Forgot to mention all the conversations that take days on end? Or the fact nobody sleeps? Those don't make sense either following your logic yet I don't see you complaining because its necessary to have good rp. Conversations don't revolve around conflict. I highly doubt you'd be SR'd for joining in on a conversation that has been going on for a day. Join in on an RP fight for a day, people will assume you meta'd to help your mate. LaCabra (Soda) 1519 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Please, speak for yourself. I've had roleplay fights that have ended with me and the opposition talking about how much we enjoyed the scene and how we hope we could do it again. If you both enjoyed it, then you can still roleplay it again... The PvP is just default. You can still roleplay, if both of you are up to it.
Telanir 6975 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Please, speak for yourself. I've had roleplay fights that have ended with me and the opposition talking about how much we enjoyed the scene and how we hope we could do it again. Oh there is no doubt that there are some good situations, but we need to speak for the majority who experience this problem. Maybe it's just being a tech, but I constantly get people ranting to me about how much they hate their latest combat session. Some people even say they don't even win anymore in roleplay fights to avoid the drama. I don't know, but I certainly won't speak for you as I don't know your experience.
shiftnative 3103 Share Posted June 24, 2013 If you haven't realized, we're nothing like Aegis anymore. We're not fighting undead here, we're fighting racial groups and such. Another reason why the server had so many players is because the application was ridiculously easy. My friend wrote how he was tortured by a necromancer and he was accepted, even though the only necromancers existing were pretty much the undead. The server in general was just simply more laxed. It was not just because of PVP default, trust me. Well they're all still white-listed! To some, converting back to the more laxed version of combat roleplay could be step in the right direction in terms of controversy and clarity.
SirSnowMan 318 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Please please PLEASE watch this before you vote! Exactly. The topics they mention in this sound awesome, but PvP has to be default to actually utilize it to it's full potential. It would add more action, and personally, it would make the server more entertaining and create more action.
ggggg3g2g245gggg2jjjgh 274 Share Posted June 24, 2013 I'm going to tilt more to the Default RP side as of now because in my opinion it's a lot simpler and saves a lot of time.

Aetosion 2062 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Or I don't know we can add in our plugin that you can only hit someone every second making spam click pointless? Spam clicking is pointless, MC only registers a hit every 0.8 seconds. No. I acknowledge we have it in our roleplay. I don't roleplay every single piece of bread eaten in great detail because do I expect anyone to look at me and reply? No. Because in real life, you do not eat every fifteen seconds when you go for a mild walk. I've walked 24 miles to my mall and back in the summer heat and stopped only four times for water, never once food. Essentially a friendly form of Knockout which two players can agree two via command which will have it so the losing player is merely "knocked out" instead of exploding into items. Just fact checking here. I've done actual hikes, and have hitchhiked along highways, and know some basic math. 48 miles in one day with 4 stops is impossible, unless you were going at a slow jog for 15-20 hours straight, or were sprinting every 10 minutes for 10 minutes straight or similar. But considering you said walking, I'm going to call bs, or I'm going to congratulate you on your record breaking stride length and incredible endurance, it's a wonder you have time to play video games at all with all the aerobic conditioning you must be doing. :)
Samson Option 9652 Share Posted June 24, 2013 Alright, so I am going to give my twenty-one gun salute. Are you ready? 1. We have players from all over the world, of different ages, who consume different media. Some people watch Anime, some people watch the Matrix, some people self-glorify and imagine themselves in unrealistic situations. From this, we have different players backed by their own cliques pushing certain players in their RP fight endeavors, I have seen too much powergaming from players who think they are in the safe. RP fighting has caused so much drama because we get into our "Team Jacobs who can backflip and throw a hatchet point-blank as if this is Call of Duty" and their 'Team Edwards who watches Bleach and think they can parry five swords at one time. People forget to comprehend the fact that even movies are choreographed to have characters win a fight, Darth Maul should have beat the tar sands out of tired ol Obi Wan Kenobi and now we have players thinking they can pull the shindig. Likewise, staff are not hive-mind, even the staff suffers from the problem that they have different interpretations due to their own experiences as to what the human body [or other Races] is capable of. Whether it is anime distorting our view of the human body or uber-realists cringing that you didn't allow 22 seconds to crank that crossbow-baby up; PvP throws this out and makes players think outside of the box; ironically taking either terrain into account [which is hardly taken into account from my staff PoV] or use tactics. 2. This server was never heralded as a 'Heavy RP server', we realised that we had to go to our Download folders and pop up that Minecraft.exe to even participate in LotC. This is a Minecraft server, stop abusing the English language and stating what it is not. LARPing is probably the closest to Hardcore RP as you will get and most will be anguished to realise that you can't pull half the stunts pulled on LotC during my tenure atleast. Stating that 'you are a bad RPer if you use mechanics rather than actually RP" does two poorly-thought out things: a: You fail to remember that the Aegis system, you had to RP proficiently to instigate a clash of swords so to speak, don't attempt to blackmail or degrade those who see the sense in leaning on RP-PvP as 'trying to turn this into MineZ'. b: I reckon us staff should banhammer you if you right-click to eat food "RP eating and suck it up if hunger bar beats you down into the reality that this is Minecraft", right-click to purchase from shops, left-click to access levers and buttons to gain access to certain areas. 3. RP fighting takes too much time, whether from players who may have IRL priorities that they thankfully line up before a game thus allotting themselves only so much time to play Minecraft. This has actually been an issue even amongst staff as we get called to try and cut down people prolonging to either metagame [known as stalling] or drive the other person into a face-desk at the fact that it is now 6:30PM when he hopped into the fight at 5:45PM. Players can easily abuse by prolonging a fight whilst fighting a war with words alongside their clique to shame and degrade the player that is still fighting. Ties back into #1. 4. Lag actually makes you better in PvP as your hitbox is harder to get a registered hit mind you all. Likewise, spam-clicking DOES NOT work, Blawharag proved this. I hope this persuades people into either throwing out their illogical arguments or at the very least persuades people to give the ol Aegis Rp-PvP system a chance. Thank You for hearing me out!
