Yesterday I got in a fight that went from being dazed by being hit by a Telekinesis'ed object, being tackled, slowly managed to loosen up and stab that tackler, to open fighting again. The TK then ripped a lamp post from the ground, and threw it us, hitting the guard who tackled us. I then ran away and used a little girl as a meatshield, who then ripped out my character's throat with a bite while he wasn't looking.

 

Tell me how PvP will ever be that detailed or fun.

Funny because CoreMechanics was developed to add those kinds of things to daily life. Collisions with objects IS going to change the way the fight goes on. Hitting someone into a wall WILL deal damage. :)

If you're fighting a mage it's RP default.

And if it wasn't a mage? What if it was the same situation, but with an archer. Most of that experience which seems to have obviously satisfied someone without any drama or anything wouldn't had happened according to the new plugin*.

Some people like extensive fighting that has usable tactics. One of my characters use a shield. Where will he fit into your plugins? He won't, simply put. How can I really roleplay out my character grabbing someone by the neck to yank them out of a building and throw them into the dirt? I can't. How can anyone RP say kidnapping if the person they were attempted to take fought back and ended up dead? They can't.

To be fair with the knockout plugin you can pertend they are only knocked out after pvp.

But if as you said Telanir is going to change it to death with 10% of your items going to the victor then you can't.

LoTC was even more popular as an RP server when PVP was default. I'm not saying it's because of PVP being default, but it was still the #1 server when PVP was default. So it is quite logical :)

My point is, why have "#1 RP" there? I, myself wouldn't classify it as a "#1 RP" server if we're going to have PvP as a default combat choice. If I were to come to a server which claims to be the "#1 RP" server, I expect virtually everything to be done through roleplay, not through MC mechanics. Well, that's just me.

 

Sure LoTC got popular when PvP was default. Then again, this isn't about which combat choice we want in order to make LoTC popular and well known, it's about what the community wants to "improve" LoTC's combat.

The "#1" -> RP <- server which may have -> PvP <- as default? Logic, I see how you decide to apply today.

We're an RP server but it's still minecraft. Besides, RP fighting is by no means the only way to make IC progress, nor should it be. You'll just have to find more productive ways to pass the time than fighting

Archers will be given bonuses, you'll be able to circle around lumbering iron beasts.

 

To be fair with the knockout plugin you can pertend they are only knocked out after pvp.

But if as you said Telanir is going to change it to death with 10% of your items going to the victor then you can't.

Use the duel function of the plugin! :)

Simply ask if you can RP instead of PvP :)

And when they say no because they simply want something to kill? Then where are you? You're screwed.

An archer should shoot them? An archer wouldn't stand in an open field where an enemy can run up and kill them. Stand on a cliff with a longbow, shoot them. Much more realistic.

You expect everything to be done in roleplay. Alright, I will ask you a few questions then.

 

Do you roleplay every time you eat a piece of bread? Or do you hold right click to do so?

 

Do you roleplay constructing buildings and other things? Or do you right click?

 

Do you roleplay taking down every single tree or farming? Or do you left/right click.

 

People need to remember that even though this is a roleplay server, it's still on MC. If you want to RP every single thing, forum roleplays exist for that very reason.

I said "virtually everything". Besides, those questions don't require me coming into conflict with another individual rply.

@Telanir Why is there a vote on this, I thought the staff had made their decision? All I'm seeing in this thread is a bunch of butthurt people who are used to RP fighting with flying lamposts and acrobatic fighting with 7 swords and a toothpick. Seeing as that's super unrealistic and verging on powergaming, I think having a realistic fight will be great. I would say no to PVP default, except that the CoreMechanics is going to allow for simple PVP fights to take on a degree of RP realism. Seems a lot better to me. I've honestly never seen a single RP fight that isn't ridiculously powergamey, and completely ruins immersion with the sheer ridiculousness of people dodging everything for an hour until one decides to light the other on fire with his mind, it's just silly. In fact, I think default RPPVP will be a lot more realistic of a role play experience than the RP fighting going on now, that lasts for hours and is just silly.

 

And if there was a separate vote, I'd vote to keep the knockout plugin, with an obligation to /damage 20 if asked. I think it's simpler and makes more sense. If you die in RP, they should have the ability to loot a body, or if knocked out, have the ability to pass you by.
