The Price Of Defiance

As the moon shone down upon the tranquil village of Lenniel, the Horde ventured through the mountains. Men and women smiled, talking merrily and drinking in Lenniel’s tavern, while many others peacefully slept in their beds. They had no idea what was about to come; what would soon be unleashed onto their town. It began with the scattered homes and hovels on Lenniel’s borders. The farm houses quickly were consumed in the flame, many being destroyed by the dark magic that seemed to be haunting Anthos more and more. Some villagers ran outside of their homes, only to be cut down by the merciless cloaked attackers. A dark elf named Vulathri was one to have suffered such a fate, having been slain as he fled his homestead.

As the town was alerted to the flames, shouts of “Fire!” and “Help!” echoed throughout the village, many screams not heard over the roar of the flames. Those in the tavern began to bicker, not sure whether they should help their friends outside, or leave them to their grisly fate. Outside however, much of the town was already set ablaze. A horrible construct was seen with a large hammer, crushing the bodies of multiple townsfolk in the square. Gauldrim, Theus, and multiple other elves would be found later - their bodies crushed and pummeled.

The stalls and nearby trees were also consumed in flames, and the stables ringed of neighing horses, being trapped as they burned alive. Suddenly, High Princess Titania walked down the path, her crimson eyes settling upon the burning remains of Lenniel. She drew her bow and began firing, striking down the Horde with ease. Her valiant efforts were not enough, however, and some survivors witnessed her death; her skull cracked open. Her body was never found.

Smoke rose from the city, and many came from Malinor and the Delver Ruins to assist in putting out the fires. Possibly due to just luck, or perhaps a blessing from Malin, the rain began to pour over the town. The fires died down, and the elves began pulling bodies and injured from the smouldering wreckage. For a moment, it may have seemed like they were finally at peace.

Utilizing the attack as a distraction, another force of the Corrupted marched towards the Delver Ruins of Ac’Talarah. They came upon their massive stone gate, and whatever solace came from securing Lenniel quickly disappeared. The two opposing forces skirmished, launching arrows from battlements, while the Horde responded in kind from behind the cover of the forest. Some Delvers decided to meet their attackers on the ground. Vierna Kameki tried her best, but she was too was quickly slain. The battle raged on for what seemed like an eternity, and as dawn came upon the Elven nation, the battlefield finally grew silent. The Delvers shouted in triumph, having defended themselves against the Dark Forces of the North. Their victory was sweet, but earned at what cost?

The bodies of Nienna Calm and Artimec, both Delver Regents, were found dead on the battlefield. As the elves in Lenniel and Ac’Talarah gathered their dead, many having been burned, frozen, or cut down, a single note was left amid the destruction.

Heial's misty interior flickers a few times before the sentient pearl begins to glow again. He pulses and levitates off the ground before shaking himself off and spying the dead corpse of one of his yellow sheep.

"CHARLIE! NO, NOT YOU! WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE YOU?"

He collapses unto Charlie and does the pearl equivalent of crying. Truly, the Antagonists are cruel, heartless monsters.

Aeyrius would later have traversed these lands, observing over the wreckage, some of the bodies that were missed, or moved to the side in panic, noting the splashes of blood, or not, which would indicate blunt weaponry from these... individuals.

With a sigh, he followed the dying smoke doused in rain, and if that were to fail, the trampled grass and bloodied footsteps were easy enough to catch onto. After a gradual movement, Aeyrius stood in front of the Delver Ruins, to lift the note from the wall. "Do not blame the citizens of Malinor, they are not the ones who have chosen this fate, especially those of the Delvers. Our people are hung by one person's stubbornness, not everyone, remember that next time you make paste of a sixteenth of our people. Which on that note, one of which is that individual which I spoke of..." Aeyrius paced off at that point, he was well aware that there was little chance any of the attackers would return to read the note, but writing his thoughts down was enough...

Vierna grumbles as she walks down the stairs of the cloud temple, the last thing she remembers was the killing of six of their members in the gatehouse. She rubs the new scar running along her shoulder "What happened..." She goes to flip her new green hood up. "Forgive me Torrah for what I did..."

Valmir Audane approaches the lovely town of Lenniel after attending an important business trip, determined to finally rest as he had sorted every issue of that day out early, finished building the last home, finished building the soon to be crowded stalls that lie in the center of the town.  To is dismay he sees the pillar of smoke rising from every house, shop, and stall in the town.  He rushed into the town, the tears flowing from his face.  His one meaning in his life now stood before him, smoldering as the smoke continues staining the clear and bright skies of the day.

His life meaning lost, the source of his only good memories were destroyed, nothing was left to give him any source of joy.

As he walked down from the hill side into the town, he looked at the destruction.  "I built that last week... and that this morning..."  Everything beautiful was gone.

He spotted the eye sore that is the house of Quavinir Signis, still standing as it was left, untouched by destruction.  His emotions over took him as he fell to his knees.

He was left as he left the town, alone in the center of a dead town.  Seeing people burried alive... burried alive...

Valmir Shouted, "QUAAAAAAAAV!
QUAAAAAAAAV!"

((Would like to note that I never died, I was kicked and hit, yet it would be great if you removed me from the body list))

Minwoo looks at the land around Ac'Talarah. Dozens of dead bodies litter the ground, with many familiar faces among the dead. He sighs and takes out his favorite pipe to smoke out of. As he lights the pipeweed, he can hear Fiend screaming from her arrow wound, cries from the many children housed in the base, and general confusion from the chaotic skirmish that had taken place. He takes a deep hit from his pipe, and closes his eyes.

"Bloody nether."

A white hooded figure stands in the trees of the witches forest, overlooking the fires that burn in Leanniel, simply observing.

A smaller female dressed in a dark green and black cloak stands beside him, watching carefully, and a third figure, dressed in white as well but unhooded crouches upon the branches of which they stand.

The white hooded figure nods slowly.

"Indeed, it is good timing that we evacuated our outpost. Had we waited even a few weeks, we could have lost everything."

The white dressed man simply nods, not saying anything; the female remains still.

The figure sighs slightly.

"While I wish that we could offer assistance, our neutrality demands we remain separate. I can only wish them good luck."

The male speaks quietly.

"And what about the potential resources there?"

The figure waves a hand dismissively.

"We can acquire our own now. It is not necessary for us to rely upon others any further."

The male nods.

The hooded figure turns to the male.

"You have a first-hand account of the situation?"

The male nods again.

"Yes sir, I was within the town when the incident occurred. As well, I have found some potentially useful information about some of the leaders of the Delvers."

The figure nods.

"Good. Let us return, and then you may explain the situation to all of us."

The female doesn't wait for orders, and simply turns, vanishing into the witches forest. The two others follow her, the figure glancing back one last time before continuing.

"Good timing, indeed." He mutters.
