  1. Tile map has been updated in the war section of the forums!

  2. The setting was dim, a small cramped room with only a single lantern swinging overtop, manipulated by the air flowing in from a tiny window. On the bed an old 'ame rolled and churned in his nightmares and in a jolt he woke, his dead grey eyes staring into worlds beyond. In a revelation his mind was spinning and a sense of vertigo washed over him. "She is blind... It happened almost too quickly. Perhaps it is time to guide her to truth" The old man reached out into the space nearby only to draw forth an entirely obsidian Oculi, fashioned of material foreign to this world. "May The Beyond be kind to this one, for she is ridden with curses enough." He'd revel in a short prayer before heaving himself out of bed and into the city streets.
  3. Also, another note. I am looking for some more moderators to work exclusively on the forums! Please reach out via forum or discord message.

  7. This answers the question of how to provide value with your time on lotc (also Telanir is looking at this while im typing this.)
  8. In the world a lone creature stood, pitched atop his tower. Overlooking the city of Celia'nor he gazed through a crystal ball, whispers of war on his mind. Horrors clawed at his mind as he thought to himself "They've already lost, we live amongst them. With only a few steps will it take our win." The horrors, the beyond, flooded his mind. It boggled with chaos and overflowed. A new direction was to be taken, one of the watching eye.

  10. the way you speak in a forum post bothers me somehow, but im glad you're having fun! LOTC is huge and the learning curve is a constant issue, as is with anything that has a good amount of depth.
  11. I stewed over a good response for this for awhile, wrote an entire paragraph, then deleted it. Trying to formalize a good response to this is hard. This is not a formal staff response, just my matter of opinion and experience. I know there to be issues revolving around the use of slurs and insults based on ones qualities (race, gender, sexual orientation, religion at times, etc.) and have very often gone out of my way to punish those who do so. The issue we face is that a) moderation does not have fair and equal access to every chat associated with lotc, and even if we did people would simply make other chats to say these things. b) almost inherent in the internet is people with different 'opinions' wherein they have a belief that others are lesser or simply refuse to acknowledge their existence (e.g. the example of someone being transphobic.). c) Time, place, and context are a huge piece of it all that moderation often does not get. We also cannot know with certainty what the supposed perpetrators qualities are either, so punishing someone for saying a slur while they belong to one of the parties insulted can get messy and some believe in reclaiming words. All in all, there are a ton of roadblocks that make it hard for us to punish one offs or private chats or logs from a time ago. I do believe that these roadblocks should not be excuses for us to work harder and be more stringent on what we allow. It is very often that I see someone use ableist terms and it goes unpunished due to just general societies lack of care about the issue in terms of the internet. You see people old and young use it all the time, and the same can go with a dozen other slurs that are almost commonplace (e.g. people incorrectly calling Native Americans something else). I also previously mentioned how people have a differing opinion on what they consider heinous, and this too goes for moderation, meaning each moderator has a different tolerance for what they let slide or not. In short, what stops us is a difference between moderators, the almost impossibility for us to moderate platforms outside of what we own fully, and finally the context of every situation. I believe we can do better on our platforms, but anything outside of those will always remain a difficult situation or impossible to moderate.

  13. Realms is not meant to tie you down to a specific nation in regards to regular roleplay or consolidate power, its merely just a useful way to organize players in war and replaces CEX with its dedicated use

@monkeypoacherwhat do you think would fix the issue? I'd like to hear, maybe I can send some into our chats and we can discuss them

People have written a lot more eloquently than me about their issues and suggestions. But I'll give a crude summary which is this:

Nations have too many blocks, players have no blocks. Nation leaders have no incentive to settle new players, build the world, or create roleplay. Regular players do. Want to guess who gets land and privileges?

I think staff should rework systems so that they serve players, not nations, and try to remove OOC barriers and influences on dynamic roleplay.

      Here's what I suggest:

      Nation Rules, Land Administration

      1. Expand the Realms plugin. Replace nations, settlements, lairs etc. with a one-size-fits-all land claim system (like nexus-regions). Individual players are now allowed to claim their own land for an upfront cost of minas/resources and an ongoing activity cost. Nation leaders can start with a certain number of pre-claimed plots.
      2. Depending on the amount of plugin wizardry involved, individual players can vassalize under another claim, keeping their plot but contributing their activity to the owner of that claim. Nations can now dynamically form from player interaction!

      Worldbuilding and New Map Stuff

      1. Reward a sense of exploration and adventure! Build ruins and cool landmarks everywhere they fit.
      2. Enlist players to build these! Anthos, Athera, and all of our smash hits had extensive player feedback and involvement.

      Economy &  Resources

      1. The weird, deflationary LoTC economy where minas are taken out of your bank account also contributes to a feeling of player helplessness. It no longer has any purpose (currency plugin Soon™) and should be done away with.
      2. Peg the mina to one gold ingot with a sellshop at spawn/capitals. Not only does this allow nations to issue their own currency using gold nugs, but it keeps the mina stable but slightly inflationary over time.
      3. Remove the Global Auction House and maintain the plugin for local auction houses (it used to have this functionality!)
      4. Replace voting minas with random resource drops that contain food, materials, etc. Gambling isn't just addictive, it's fun!
      5. Place mines with iron, coal, gold, etc., as well as nodes with story materials and herbs, etc., in random locations on the map to reward player exploration.

      Moderation, Misc.

      1. LoTC Moderation members should have admin on nation discord servers, to deal with metagaming & harassment, et cetera. Servers where Moderation are not given these perms should not be listed on the discord server.
      2. "PRO consent" should be removed from the rules except where it is absolutely necessary. You shouldn't need some guy's consent to burn his house down.
      3. Warclaim discussions should be held on the forums, or a publicly accessible discord channel.

I appreciate the feedback and will toss around some ideas in our chats related to what you've said here. Some  might not work, but I do think you have good ideas! Thanks!

  14. this is more useful for mods than it is like useful server-wide, which I appreciate. It lets us have a dedicated section of commands so that when war comes about that they're divided out evenly and players cannot use one persona slot for 10 different wars
  15. i didnt read a lot of it, but dont make it take 5 ooc months to get this magic
