Honestly I get that. It'd definitely make the roleplay a lot more interesting to not have a particular biome in the overall map for every little sub-faction to have like the last map, and so on.

Mad max map with only a couple freshwater sources. I want to fight in the water wars.

  10. A ranger muses to himself; I've seen more nephilim than frost witches attack Lumbridge, and they're not even at war with us. He wipes his blade clean of a green-colored ichor, before it is teleported back into the void.
  11. Extremely disappointed that you didn't point out Paul was killed by a sperg
  12. Roleplay wise the attitude of Voidal magic has shifted completely. There's a noticable lack of quality from voidal mages that I've seen I mean shit I've been given three slots of it (joking of course). The quality of player has diminished, and powergaming the magic happens frequently to a point where it's a common occurence. I've seen a strikingly few amount of insane/mentally crazy scions because it simply 'fits a theme' they want to play. They want their own direction for roleplay that the scion lore simply doesn't have or write for. My character himself is crazy, and people oocly are super confused when I freak the **** out ic because nobody roleplays that side effect of the magic. I think personally the aspect of a voidal scion should be explored a lot more, by not only the players who play them but in the esoteric (poorly written) lore guide for the class. And finally, I do agree with that last point. Everybody is in such a rush it feels like to get the most broken, min maxed character with all slots filled with the most unbalanced magics. (Air, Translo, and Water come to mind as insanely strong not to get side tracked, air has a ridirect spell that is REALLY strong). It seems like each group desires to find the strongest crpers to win, rather than experience the world through the lens of a character. I remember back in Atlas, I was a little dominion fleeper and I saw someone with ONLY lightning evocation. Super bad ass encounter, where he slung spells that won a combat roleplay encounter for his side. with just ONE! (strong) magic! Nowadays, that shit just doesn't happen. You have to have a gazillion spell slots to keep up with everyone, and I think the reason for that is teaching slots being three people. I've seen few people actually take advantage of the teacher-student roleplay, and the roleplay they offer is EXQUISITE! I only wish that players wouldn't abuse the 3 ta slot system for that shit. Def we should have a 1 ta slot system, and it's not possible but put the cat back in the bag.
  13. Asbjorn watches the imp drop a missive over Grense, quickly snatching it up and reading over it. His eyes widen as he casts a glance over the many peasants, and simple men. An overwhleming sense of dread takes place in his already cold heart as he sprints for his horse, mounting it with shaking hands. He then rides, for Lumbridge. In his youth, Naele went by a different name, and he a different man. "What went wrong? Why are you doing this!?" Comes a thought, boiling to his head. He looks back at Grense, bringing his horse to a halt as he admires the beauty of the simple town. The simple life. With a crack of his reins, he gallops off.

  17. A ranger, stranger to both parties involved recieves a letter about the destruction of the would-be God's phylactery. Lockpicks are placed back, to collect dust, and more letters are sent out to the would-be team of godkillers. One question, reminds on his mind; "What drove them to this?"
  18. A picture of Asbjorn, Circa 120 of the Second Age, over looking the Petran Forests Rin, It has been a long time since I’ve written to you. Much has changed in my life, I’ve aged tremendously well, and each time I look at myself in the mirror I’m amazed by how young I still appear. I have Mother to thank for that. I wish you could see me now, I stand taller than I ever could because of your wisdom and kindness. It’s funny, when I was young we had many spats about my choices in life, now I feel we’d agree on almost everything. I no longer seek a path of war, but instead of peace. To better the world through understanding, forgiveness, and patience. I shall catch you up, when last I wrote to you, I finally found the Adunian people’s folly in Karkosa to be irreparable. Despite my hard efforts, nothing could be done about the evil that was unleashed in that forsaken realm. I know now it is doomed, and it was because of my powerless ness. The adventure was only half a year's length, yet when I returned, everything was different. You were dead, Wings was gone, my brothers, sisters-nowhere to be found. I was distraught, and turned to the only man I could, the Elendil. We journeyed and fought many evil beings, but our prize was Aurelion. It was he that destroyed Cartref Mor, and it was he I would kill. At least, until I made my peace with him. We understood our ways of the Old Faith have come to pass, in favor of the Numenadain. Our disdain for them brought us together and was my first step away from the light. We worked to bring together what little of our kind was left-and found it was just us two. I am but a man, and he but an agent of the Dark-what are we to do? So I searched our scripture, it allowed me to seek power. And so, I delved into the study of the void to find it. As well, I’ve fought in two wars now, and am guilty of regicide. I helped the Haenseni armies with their victory over the Raev and put down the Petran rebellion before it even began by killing their prince with my magical prowess. Shooting the rocks in practice always felt so satisfying, but the sound of rock breaking bone is horrific; no mortal should ever be faced with such a sound. When I was paid for my work, as before, something inside me did not feel right. I accepted one thousand mina for his life, and I watched a son be executed by his mother. I thought not of his political dealings or treachery at that moment, only sadness. They were a family once, Queen Renilde and Paul. She raised him, cleaned up after him, fed him, and waited on him. That baby she raised, his blood was now spattered over him. She looked wholly unlike a mother, she looked like a murderer. I next asked myself, is this my fault? I told myself at first someone else would have fell Paul. I kept playing back the scene of the battle, searching for others that were unoccupied with soldiers and came to the conclusion it was my own doing. Not a mere stroke of luck that I dealt the blow, rather, a skill that only I had brought to the table. It was by my own hands, that I saw a family torn apart, a Mother left with no son. I asked, is this what I’ve become, Father? An agent of filicide? Is my purpose in life to be a tool of war? Am I truly a simple weapon to be picked up the lords and regents and used as a chess piece in their game of thrones? I was so distraught in this belief I began to explore the lands of the elfen, searching for answers from our wiser, and longer lived counterparts. What I found instead, was the truth of our existence. It’s a LIE. All of it. Owyn did not follow the Creator’s will. Harren did not found Idunia for the Creator. Horen did not speak for him. For The Creator’s only task, was creation itself. May I one day find you in Ebrietaes, Father. Asbjorn Carthaig

Defender default only changes the mode of combat for the one being ATTACKED. If you are attacked, u can call crp

I think that Nephilim should be able to terrorise druids with their flame breath so that they hear the cries of a numerous trees burning alive. Druids calling PvP prevents this. Simple as.

u realize that if enough people attack the druid grove, then the druids can still call pvp. so that argument doesnt really make sense.

"no matter what, there's less roleplay involved, and power is placed in the hands of the victim; but not the power to make things more dynamic and interesting, but instead a nuclear option to subvert any sort of meaningful narrative."

So you don't like pvp, is the issue. Because you say pvp has no narrative because words aren't exchanged, therefore it's bad.

I'm not a particular fan of PVP, no. It has its place in warclaims, but this is a roleplay server; roleplay must take priority by default.

" or they call pvp, in which case the ensuing fight does not produce any sort of meaningful roleplay at all and instead results in either a popping, the victim mech-fleeing and avoiding consequences entirely (lmao to old orenians calling pvp on crossbow assasination attempts"

He ran away-he got away from the conflict just like one would in CRP. It is SHOWING the conflict through mechanics, you don't need words to say he ran away, you just run away.

You can't outrun a crossbow bolt. The reality of the situation isn't represented via mechanics; the capability of the two combatant characters isn't represented via mechanics. Instead, you fall back to the OOC skill of the player at PVP, which isn't what roleplay is, or should be.

I'll give another key point here: magic. Suppose I, a mage, throw a fireball at you, a Knight, and you call defender default; how is the fireball supposed to be represented mechanically? The reality is that it can't be, because a magic plugin would be a) a bad idea and b) is never going to happen. Villains like Gashadakuro would never have succeeded in a defender default setting because, ironically, it actually provides people with the capability to avoid conflict roleplay by just running away or falling back to OOC skill.

Point is-you don't like pvp. You can't redefine roleplay as 'text-based interaction' and call yourself a winner, I think roleplay involves mechanically moving around, and the city you roleplay in-whether it is day or night, or whether your skin is cloaked or not. All of those things are mechanics too, so why stop at clicking?

roleplay is playing a character, and having your character interact with other characters. you can use mechanics to represent roleplay, but pvp isn't a representation of roleplay because the contest has nothing to do with the skill of the actual characters.

"here's nothing new brought to a character through pvp, no actual matching of skill. a seven-year old elf can defeat a grizzled olog in pvp, completely disregarding the realities of the story, so why should any serious roleplayer want defender default? "

I can do the exact same thing in crp through powergaming and spam dodging. My 5'9 human character can beat an orc through wrestling because I say he can, and no-one can stop me other than my sheer will and time commitment to winning a crp. It's not a fault of the system-its a fault of the player. Again, a fallacious arguement.

It's probably WORSE in crp, tbh. I can transfer items over that can absolutely break the balance of crp, and bully tf out of people to win rather than create a story. It's on the player, not the mode of combat, to keep the narrative.

fine, but the system of crp default permits individuals who approach each other in good faith to actually have a good roleplay experience. the same is true in defender default so long as they both stick to combat roleplay, but if you instead turn to pvp, you disregard roleplay and narrative entirely.

it's one thing to say that issues with crp default are because of players - that's probably true, and it means that players who are out to roleplay will have a good experience with each other. you get bad eggs, but you get bad eggs in every game, no matter the playstyle.

however, if you turn to defender default, then the issues become because of the system. you can't work around them - the rules become designed to permit people to basically avoid roleplay, which is funny because the people who argue for defender default are also the same genre of player who argue that the server doesn't have consequence anymore.

  22. "A fifty mina bid? I'm not going to engage in a bidding war. Two thousand mina and my favor should you need it." Maethor then licks the envelope closed, sending the letter through Norland's Aviary.
  23. Asbjorn Carthaig keels over, as yet another war begins. But he takes up not arms with Haense in the past, but with the Raev he once defeated.
