Our July Plans

what's kind of amusing is that parts of the map have been fully built but then were torn up because they were TOO complete, but huge stretches of land that is supposed to be 'custom forest' is still empty grass. Every time I've been on to work there's lots of joking and chatter (I wont lie I do sit there and chatter with people too from time to time)

But really.. the fringe is old and stale. I havn't logged in or had any roleplay since the plauge incident. even given the size of the map itself, landscaping isn't supposed to take this long. The majority of the shape should have been taken care of with world painter meaning only custom items on the surface or custom caverns will need to be done. A 2 person team whom is used to voxel can whip up some fairly fantastic landscaping in a day or less if they just slam down on it and don't screw around.

Honestly, this fringe thing is really killing LOTC for me. Temporary things like this always kill rp, most people don't stay very long unless they have a sense of permanence. Thinking that you're still successful with 100 people is foolish. I remember when it was common to see 200 or more on a weekday. I remember when non-donators were kicked because the server was always full, and there was a huge riot to increase the slots because everyone wanted to role-play.

I dont see that passionate flame in LOTC anymore.. it honestly feels like its become empty and broken looking for that spark it lost. Then again I've been here so long I've become weary and war-torn by it, and I dont have the bright fresh eyes of wonder I used to when I looked at it. But.. its all just one little lambs opinion.

well, I'll be a racist high elf this argument makes sense. Seriously though if this is taking so damn long could there perhaps be some avenue where the lotc community could help speed things up. I'm pretty skilled with artwork, media, java and building and I know a few of my roleplaying friends from lotc are just as good if not better why not open up a temporary group of 4.0 "Helpers" so we can actually feel like we are contributing.

Welcome back Viper3X. You have been missed.

Anyway, in terms of evaluating GMs, I would like to propose the playerbase evaluate each staff member individually via community survey. This time, this survey will be fully anonymous and the results won't be shown to the playerbase. I think the community has something to say about our GM team that you need to discuss amongst yourselves. Any questionable activity witnessed by the playerbase should be encouraged to come with evidence. This is the best way to bring some cohesion that the staff and playerbase has been needing for months.

Yes, for those players who know of the GMs giving out enchanted gear to other players for free, it would be a good chance to submit evidence.

I would love to agree to this, but we have to realize that a large group of people have alt accounts (minecraft and forum). I'm sure if it was really necessary the player base would make mention of a GM who is not up to par with their work.

I'm tired of waiting, holy ****.

In all seriousness, I completely understand and respect you don't want to release an unfinished map, however the Fringe has grown dull and boring. Instead of just bein' like 'Just wait!', why not try to have some ET's or  people like that make a huge Fringe-wide event that will want to bring people in and possibly conclude 3.5, having us go into 4.0? Not too be rude, but I haven't really seen an ET do an event in quite a while. Well, an enjoyable one.

Also, the summer is (well, was) the most active time of LotC. What's the good of moving to a brand new map at the END of summer? Summer for me is about 2/5th's over already.

The problem is, really, that we don't know when 4.0 is coming, so we don't want to start an event arc that will end prematurely with a map switch. We have events ready for the map switch, but no idea when we're going to launch them.

Event team members unwilling to do events, inactive Admins pledging to purge inactive staff members, people complaining about complaining. Where is this irony going to end? It's really beginning to be too much!

Lol, no. If you have evidence of a GM doing something wrong you need to report it... this is why we have the two week rule on submitting evidence for any report. You have an issue with anyone on staff report it to their team leader, end of story.

Also, everyone needs to take a deep breath... we never set a date for 4.0 to be done. The alert on the dev server saying try to have everything done by the 25th was just a soft deadline for players building, not a release date.

and for probably the 100th time... We love feedback... but keep it constructive.

seriously the 25th.. I was hearing the end of june then July 14th now the 25th of July... I don't understand why its taking so long if the map is pretty much finished and all thats left is media shouldn't it take like.. four days tops to finish the media

Challenge accepted, I look forward to seeing your 'media' in four days and I shall judge it. (#ItsOnLikeDonkeyKong)

Evaluate the staff via a survey? Cyndikate, I'll be frank. That's a pretty bad idea :P. Don't stress, 'cause here's why.

Take for example, myself. Player A doesn't like me as a person. When they take said survey, they base it off of how I am according to them instead, not how I've done as a GM. A certain ban in one place or an angry person in another could wrongfully kick a GM off the team! And that wouldn't be good at all.

And there is lots that we do behind the scenes. Building, bans, leading teams, all the moderation behind the blocks that you don't really see.

What we'd be looking at in this survey would be the public image of each GM, and that's not what we need.

Does Rhia do anything?

Just a random opinion, if it is mostly media work that has to be done, how about some event team members whip up some cool events to keep things on the Fringe interesting. II mean, i'm all for creating our own roleplay, and I've seen some people create some good rp for everyone around a general area, but if they are on the event team, they should be creating some cool events. By the way, if you read this sarcastically, it isn't sarcastic. As I was re-reading, I noticed it might be misinterpreted that way.

Does Rhia do anything?

I lead the AT actually, and have been doing at least top 5 in mod reqs for a few months now. The only reason I haven't been IG for a few weeks is I'm moving and I just don't have time to sit online and do modreqs for hours. As soon as i'm settle back down I will return to IG work. Not that this thread is the place for anything like this nor do I have to answer to a player... Viper is aware of what's going on and can handle it. I have full confidence in Viper and his ability to administrate.

A better question to ask is, what can I do to help the server? Comments like "Does Rhia do anything?" are useless and really only hurt the community and add more division between players and staff. Food for thought.

I wish I had your unshakeable confidence.
