The Islamic Caliphate

In the dark cold abyss of space, all is silent. The lit side of Mars is visible far in the distance, but the only object anywhere close is a British communication buoy, transmitting news back and forth between the colonies there and the home planet.

 

Then, out of nowhere, a Qahhar beam cuts it in two, leaving nothing but two smoldering halves floating uselessly through the vacuum. And then, gliding overhead, appears the ISS Cairo, the Mamluk-class cruiser that had set sail from Mecca station earlier. Purely military in function, it had immediately begun dismantling the British buoy system upon the recent outbreak of hostilities between them and the Reclaimer Corporation, but now it had a real target.

 

As the ship glides into position over Mars, four Chinese orbital bombers deploy, and an attack begins on the British base. With the entire British fleet recalled to the moon, only ground defenses would remain, and these find themselves under siege as bombs begin to rain down on vulnerable positions, especially on life support and fortifications. The cruiser itself opens fire as well, sending Sahiid missiles rocketing down to destroy as much of the base as possible with great precision.

 

As this show of the ISF's capabilities goes on in orbit, Japanese shuttles pick up 200 interplanetary marines, a division formed from the Islamic Navy on earth, and transport them to their base. There, they begin gearing up for battle, should it come to that.

 

Orion is urged to declare independence from their British mother country, stating that they will not be treated as enemies until their position is made clear.

In the asteroid belt, the colony expedition has arrived on the large asteroid of Pallas, and there they have almost completed a fully self sufficient station. To any observer, its function would be obvious: as much of the asteroid as possible is covered in space docks. This is the beginning of a massive mining operation of the asteroid belt, to mass produce spaceships. And knowing the Caliphate, they are most likely not intended for peace...

Orion Quick Post

Orion does, in fact, respond to the Caliphate's request for them to declare independence from Britannia. They do. However, this is of little importance as Orion had always been treated this way by the UK. Specifically, Orion had been treated as an ally.

As an ally, Orion could not let this attack go unmatched. The two Orion military ships on station, the Mammoth Carrier "OCR Feeling Lucky?," carrying a compliment of 72 SG-1 Executioner space-bombers, and the M1/M3 Jaguar "OCS Aptitude" are deployed in response.

As the Cairo is well within operable distance of Orion's air forces on Mars Colony Alpha, most of the colonies fighters are scrambled for intercept, consisting primarily of SF-1 and SF-2s.

The Orion tactic is to approach the Cairo I itially on its flank. The "Aptitude" would immediately open up with a shot from its main plasma cannon and all bombers are scrambled from the "Feeling Lucky?" which begins maneuvers to close the distance while its bombers go straight for the Cario's engines and major weapons systems. The SF-1s and SF-2s, as well as a small number of bombers launched from Mars Colony Alpha target the Caliphate bombers as soon as the air corridor as secured.

EDIT: Althoigh initially out of range, local ground defenses are brought online at Mars Colony Alpha in case the battle goes south.

Upon orders from the British Command, the coalition fleet retreats with its damaged ships to Mars and the American station to make repairs. Should the battle between Orion and Caliphate forces still be progressing when the fleet gets word, all non-damaged ships would be diverted to assist in the combat.

Once safe and docked, damaged ships will undergo repairs and the entire fleet will be refitted with the new cold fusion reactors and engines. (Three pages total)

The Cities and villages of the USSR flourish, factories bustle with activity, Farms grow massive crop yields, Mines supply large input of raw minerals and ore. The Industrial Stage of the USSR has begun as its assets have come to a steady supply. Tanks, Planes, Helicopter, Bullets, Bombs everything the military and civilian sect needed is being produced.

Prime Minister Dame Ashley Philip would attend the conference in Australia to discuss a possible peace, whilst the Empress oversees all other Imperium affairs.

 

BSM High Command continues to deal with the situation in space, now referred to as the GREAT SPACE WAR.

 

All defenses are armed on Mars, and prepare to defend from attack, including a number of high powered defensive plasma cannons made by Orion designed to target attacking ships and the likes. The British and Orion fighters details stationed there prepare to take off at a moment's notice and engage ReclaimerCo if they attack, amongst other defenses on Mars. After dealing with the Caliphate ship, the undamaged ships of the fleet would patrol near the station to defend against reclaimer attack.

The Islamic Caliphate

Al-Jawf, Libya

The plane slows as it lands on the airfield, and no sooner does it stop then the door swings open, and a man leaps to the ground, an assault rifle over his shoulder and a grin across his face. Officers clustered along the edge of the runway salute, and he returns it, breathing the hot desert air deep as he stands before them.

"Is the operation ready?"

"Yes, commander."

"Good. I want you to go up north, and keep the main force in line for me. It shouldn't be too hard, we have what we need to hold our positions."

"Understood. You're certain?"

"They wouldn't dare try it after last time. And if they do, they'll lose again. I trust you."

The man salutes once more, and strides forward past the officers and out of the airport, his chest slightly puffed out as usual, only to find the streets filled with soldiers. Hundreds of them, lined up for inspection, salute as he steps outside, and he smiles and salutes in return.

An APC is waiting for him, and gets into the passenger seat. But before they move, he stands, looks out over his men, and shouts:

"We fight!"

The assembly breaks into cheers as he is driven down the street, soldiers shouting his name in unison...

"Kutaiba! Kutaiba! Kutaiba!"

This was the start of the counterattack against the Europeans, as they began to interfere in the real war in Africa. With the arrival of Chinese forces, there numbered 8 million Caliphate-loyal soldiers in North Africa alone. And of these, 5 million are deployed under the direct field command of Commander Kutaiba to utterly crush the German-African-American push south in a counter flank. Any move by the European northern forces to flank the flankers of the original flank would be immediately met with a push by the remaining 3 million men forming the defensive line in the north.

Kutaiba moves to cut off the Coalition force, which numbers around 4 million in total, and then cuts down into it, supported by 5000 Tandon walkers and the entire force of tanks sent by the Chinese. As soon as he makes contact, the three million men south of the desert once again turn to attack, employing another 5,000 Tandons and their own armor. By this time, both forces have phased out heavy machine guns in many squads in favor of the Qahhar MKII: they are capable of everything a machine gun is, but with the added benefit of completely ignoring armor, even cutting through heavy tanks as if they were nothing. During the assault on the northern line, they proved themselves devastating to an attacker, shredding entire squads before the enemy could even get a shot off.

As the Coalition army is surrounded and stranded in the desert, the IAF's full complement of Suleiman bombers is deployed to the region, accompanied by 570 Wasp drones and 300 TFX fighters. Additional support to the air battle comes from Sahiid missile batteries on the ground, which have been instructed to focus on the skies. Between the three of these things, the IAF sweeps away any opposition in the area, and begins to mercilessly cluster bomb the African-German-American forces.

There is nowhere for the coalition to run...

In Nigeria, the advancing Caliphate forces grow closer and closer to Lagos. In the north of the country, they don't hold back, pushing through the enemy lines whenever they have a chance. Terrain is relatively easy to handle here, and with a bit of luck the already waning African defense could break down under the onslaught of no less than 10,000 Tandon-2 walkers and the majority of the African-assigned armored divisions.

In the south, the terrain is more tropical, and the advancing Islamic soldiers are slowed by the need to fight through jungles. But they had a new weapon at their disposal: the first 1,000 terror drones ever produced.

Only about a meter in height, they are very cheap to produce, but represented an entirely new kind of warfare. Equipped with an array of saws and blades, a small flamethrower, and a rifle, they can easily traverse any kind of terrain. They are meant to be released en masse into enemy territory, at which point they will swarm forward, tearing through infantry and sawing through vehicles. In civilian areas they kill everything they see, burning crops and houses and destroying vehicles, factories, power lines and all other infrastructure.

All one thousand of these are deployed in the jungles of Nigeria, and they rush forward, wreaking havoc among everything in front of the Islamic lines as they move deeper and deeper into enemy territory. Patrols through the forests are ambushed and slaughtered. Supply convoys are torn apart. Small towns are burnt to the ground, and military bases are suddenly attacked and overwhelmed. And through all this the Islamic army presses forward in their bid to take Lagos once and for all...

In Ethiopia, the three kinetic rods dropped on the Islamic fores meet great success, as each one can destroy everything in an area the size of Brooklyn. Three key positions are eliminated in seconds, and the defenders use the opportunity to great effect, quickly taking them back. This forces some of the more forward divisions to retreat or be cut off, and the Caliphate loses a significant amount of land in the highlands. But the story was far from over.

The Islamic fighters are made of stern stuff, and do not panic and run. Their retreat is an organized one, and the following counterattack is equally organized. The Janaaza missile would now be used to make the enemy pay. ((I'm going to assume that they didn't arrive on the front until now as they weren't taken into account last post.)) Addis Ababa was the key to the nation, and if it could be taken victory would follow. To achieve this, Janaazas are fired at Ethiopian positions to completely wipe out their front lines and send their army into disarray. Then the best infantry that the invaders have to spare is used to take hills along the valleys which contain the roads to Addis Ababa. Here again, Janaaza missiles are used extensively, their pure destructive power virtually guaranteeing that the majority of defenders on any given group of hills are decimated. This entire process is carried out extremely cautiously. Infantry is only sent to secure a position if it is absolutely certain that there is very little or no resistance left. Continued airstrikes keep the areas surrounding these positions pacified.

The required air superiority comes from the newest addition to the IAF: the Osman unmanned fighter.

Like the Tali fighter which had managed to outclass the famous TFX, the Osman is fitted with multiple auxiliary thrusters and can carry out maneuvers impossible for a human, due to their physiology. It is faster than any fighter on Earth, and notably, it can lock onto an enemy from any direction, allowing it to focus its maneuvers on keeping itself alive. The Sahiid missiles it is armed with similarly keep their lock in all directions and are therefore almost impossible to shake off. But most importantly, it is outfitted with the IAF's aerial combat VI, developed over a ten year period and bringing together all the Caliphate's knowledge of air battle. When they fight side by side, Osmans, like the smaller Wasp drones, are far more cooperative than any human pilot, and can easily analyze an enemy's strategy and adapt.

The four million Indonesian troops that have landed on the east coast of the continent are immediately put under Caliphate command, and set about securing Kenya as a base of operations. Their first priority is to occupy the entire country and make sure it is defended against the Ethiopians in the north, who at that point would be cut off from further reinforcements from the rest of Africa. From there, their objective will be to move north into the lowlands of Ethiopia and Somalia...

IEDs are set off in several of their establishments within days, killing them and anyone traitorous enough to go to them for help. It is clear the people of North Africa are not totally passive yet...

Republic of Africa

 

 

The Homefront

 

War had pressured the people into a new situation.

 

With the absorption of the Commonwealth into a greater African Republic, the nation found itself leaning left, hoping to secure more and more in the way of social security in these countries that had many living under the poverty line. A man who requires popular support to keep secure his power, many reforms fly across the lands, with the refuge and reform programs expanded to the point of supporting any below the poverty line. With this though, he secures more power, making public many corporations, and begins to organize labour a great deal more intensively.

 

War

 

Little can be done about Kenya. 500 000 regional Coalition troops pull west, keeping just out of rang of any advance, reinforced by 450 000 South African troops. The combined navy of Africa does its best to harass the ships, and sink the supplies coming in.

 

In Nigeria, the Caliph's flanked forced are pressed hard against. If the line does not break, and the men can not reform the line, they soon to be flanked flanking forces will shift west to meet with troops defending Niger, and reform the line there. Every man is driven forth to battle.

 

Tali's and Normandy's now fly over much of Africa, and addresses are made to the Madagascan people to rise up. Propaganda takes the place of bombs being dropped on the country.

 

Any men left in North Africa are left in the command of the Germans.

 

As for Ethiopia, an order for a counter attack is urged, though left to the Ethiopians to decide upon.

 

International Affairs

 

The Foreign minister of the Republic of Africa heads to Sydney, his demands made clear before he even arrives:

 

That the sovereignty of the African lands in the Coalition, and the Republic, are not infringed upon. In this war of aggression against Africa, they accept nothing less. It is also heavily pressed that the Suez should be made international, but it is declared negotiable.

Britannia begins to outfit military units with the new LION II weapons, armed with the batteries granted to them by the Californians before all had gone wrong in their political relations.

 

They are mounted to fighters, assault vehicles, tanks, and the likes, and are also carried by Lancelot Mechs and H.ARM Suits. They are expected to prove very effective in combat, akin to a chaingun in comparison with both the beam and handheld versions of LION.

The Admiralty continues their repairs in Mars orbit. All are diligent, and, assuming that Orion had dealt with the Caliphate ship with both their own ships and reinforcements, are fully on the lookout for a Reclaimer attack to pop into Mars orbit at any moment. The BSM's hopes are that the Reclaimers would not dare to attack an Anglo-Orion bastion of power, but if they do, defenses on the planet's surface are fully at ready, including powerful Orion plasma cannons, British planet-to-space missiles and LIONs, and of course the Royal Space Fleet and hundreds of Anglo-Orion Mars starfighters.

Research begins on researching a drive to combat that of ReclaimerCo's, a wormhole generator drive that would generate a wormhole between two points in space long enough for a single ship to pass through it and travel.

Construction also begins on creating a new sort of battlecruiser: the Valiant class. This battlecruiser shall be the second most powerful ship in the British Fleet, designed for speed yet combat proficiency. Experience from encounters with the Reclaimers will go a long ways into developing the Valiant class, and the upgraded Australian VI II will be installed in the ship upon completion as well as fusion engines and a cold fusion generator. Space shall also be left for possible energy shield technology and wormhole drive technology to be installed in the near future.

The Prime Minister states the demands of Britannia at the conference:

"We wish to keep possession of all occupied Mediterranean territories, excluding those of Crete and Sardinia, which are to be ceded back to the Greeks and the Italians respectively. This would include Corsica and the Balearic Islands.

 

We also wish for our indisputable recognition of ownership of the ENTIRE Iberian Peninsula and of the territory of Gibraltar.

 

As wary as we are of Suez being made 'International', we would be willing to agree to this clause. But ONLY if a multinational force from all nations represented at this conference was delegated in equal numbers to control the canal.

 

We would also wish to establish a buffer zone between Iberia and Morocco through the creation of the British Province of Gibraltar, consisting of both sides of the straight so as to prevent future first strike wars."

Parliament begins to debate a name change for the Imperium Britannia to the Holy Empire of Britannia, should the pope approve. No changes in government shall be made, and the Crown shall remain a hereditary asset of House Windsor. However, this action is still currently in debate, and it is unknown as to what they shall decide.

 

Speaking of which, the Empress debates nullifying King George V's proclamation in 1917 with her family. In doing so, the name of the Royal house would return that of Saxecomberg-de-Gotha.

Men and Women of the Soviet High Command grow in anxiousness and excitement, Projects Red Skies and Project Legacy are in the final stages. As a celebration of this occasion the Council along with several High Ranking Military Officers gather at the Stalingrad Government building. Vladan as the chairman gave a brief speech to those who where invited.

 

"This is a monumental achievement for us Comrades. We truelly are showing the world that we, The Russian People are truly immortal. Our Spirits never waver, and our hopes never die. So let us thank ourselves, our brothers, our sisters! For there is no God, no Divine force that leads us. We choose our own path. Hail to Humanity!"

 

The Audience follows in unison "Hail!"

The Night goes on as they drink and discuss current plans and ideas for the USSR.

 

Deep within the Ural Mountains, at an undisclosed location. Natalia stands before a group of 300 Men and Women "You have all shown courage..and great promise. As you are all Volunteers, I need to inform you. These next steps towards the final stage of Ascension...will be grueling.." she takes a moment "Not all of you will survive this next stage, and let it be known that None who wish to step out and leave this project will be look down upon. The group before her remains, no one leaves. She smiles

She steps off the podium and walks amongst the 300 before her.

The Grand Vizier of the Caliphate looks bored as the enemy nations lay out ridiculous peace terms.

 

"No," he says simply, addressing the room at large.

 

"The holy Caliphate would be willing to make peace under very specific terms. We will allow the horn of Africa, bar Djibouti and Somalia, to remain in defiance of our will, but we require all land north of and including Cameroon, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan.

 

Furthermore we require all rightful Caliphate lands to be returned immediately, including all Mediterranean islands held at the start of the war, and all rightful Caliphate lands in Al-Andalus, as defined under the now-broken previous treaty we negotiated with Britain.

 

These are our terms. There will be no concessions of any form."

The Battle For Mars
The Caliphate's fleet moved into position, seemingly out of open space and initially devasated the sitting fleet. Before the Orion and British could make an effective response, the H.M.S Stoic Revenge was shattered. The ship, a testament to British space achievement, was split in two. The Windsor's Wrath, already terribly damaged, was hit even harder, but still not destroyed. As the engagement went on though, the Martian defensive stations came online and the Orion forces were capable of overwhelming the Caliphate's space fleet. Whether or not they retreat before losing losses, or stay at the cost of their fleet is unknown (Alex can finish that).

On the ground, the Japanese/Caliphate forces would meet very strong ground resistance from Orion if they choose to advance.

The day in Sydney was like any other and the stock market buzzed with an electric sort of activity. New IPOs were launching everyday, and Sydney had taken over the role of New York as the world's economic hub. But today, June 17th, 2071, would go down in history as "Red Wednesday." Namely for all the brokers who shot themselves in the street when the stock market crashed at 1:00PM local time. The market went down in historic numbers, nearly 1.25x that of the crash of 1929 (proportionally). 

And then the world economy followed. Markets all over the world crashed in subsequent order. The Frankfurt Stock Exchange in Germany crashed in a similar fashion, then the Cairo Exchange followed by the London Stock Exchange.

Economists worldwide went into a panic. The entire world economy was in tatters and within weeks major international companies began large scale layoffs, and unemployment, especially in young industrial empires like the Caliphate, India, Japan, and the South American Federation skyrockets. In South Africa, mines quite literally stop digging up the valuable minerals in the soil, and there too the economy shatters.

Sustaining the war effort seems nightmarish now, especially as people take to the streets to protest the state of the world economy (especially now that they have nothing to do).

Brightsword Defense Incorporated

 

The Achilles heel of any corporation is an economic crash, and Brightsword was no different.

 

Brightsword was always a private company with very few employees for it's size, but now it faces it's greatest dread: lack of profits.

 

Measures would be taken to control Puerto Rico's local economy. Local business is encouraged, and trade offers are extended to Porto for manufactured goods in fabricator factories built by Brightsword, as well as local Puerto Rican product.

 

Similar measures are taken in Eastern Russia, but to a lesser extent, as the economy there wasn't very well-developed anyways.

 

Drones are dispatched to begin searching for oil deposits and precious material veins in the areas nearby Eastern Russia's holdings, and to decide optimal locations for drills for minerals.

 

An order is made to Orion for some mining spaceships.

 

Brightsword full staff (including mercenaries, who for the most part work as technicians when not on actual missions) is audited at about 70,000, of which 15,000 are purely mercenaries and 35,000 work in both fields.

 

Drones, which have been produced when nothing else was on queue to be made, now number at around approximately 150,000 units.

 

About 450 Cataphracts were produced, they were made in a limited run before Normandy reproduction begun.

War Post

The Horn of AFRICA

The war raged on in the Highlands, but the real game changer occurs when the Order drops their kinetic rods down upon the Caliphate's front line. Nearly 200,000 men are slaughtered in a concentrated series of precision strikes, killing advancing and entrenched troop all along the defensive line. The Ethiopians/Order lose some 30,000 Guerilla fighters as well. This gives the Ethiopians a serious advantage, the shock and awe of the new weapon seriously harming morale. 

The Ethiopians/Coalition/Order forces would be able to capitalize on this, pushing back the Islamic forces across the Sudanese border once again. 

KENYA

The Japanese attack overwhelms the meager coastal defences, crushing what pitiful coalition forces attempt to meet them. The Japanese swell along the coastline and establish their presence in Africa, forcing the Coalition to reasses their deployments worldwide.

WEST AFRICA

The Caliphate pushes hard into West Africa, slamming into the Coalition forces who are in tatters. The defensive line around Lagos begins to swell, and the large bulge is just waiting to be burst by the Caliphate's full-scale push on the Coalition defenders. If the city does not receive relief very soon, it will fall to the Caliphate's defenders. Meanwhile, the Caliphate's back supply continues to be cut by the small German push, which has yet to be dealt with. 

NORTH AFRICA

The Caliphate and German/European forces meet in Algeria, pushing hard against one another. However, neither side can seem to get an edge. Despite the massive numbers assembled by the Caliph and his allies, the sheer will and might of German forces was enough to slow them down. That was until the Germans dropped their chemical weapons. 

Millions of civilians suffocate to death as the attack seems to come out of the clear blue sky. Suddenly, the air is filled with noxious poison and Caliphate and European forces die indiscriminately. Nearly 2/3 of the forces deployed by both the American Empire and British die, while the Germans lose almost all non-Marionette forces. 

With this attack though comes opportunity. As the forces of the Caliphate begin to slowly die off (nearly 5.7 MILLION are dead already), the minor Marionette forces kept pushing onward, seemingly unaffected. The Germans had wanted to send a message, that they did not care who was on their side, as long as the Germans could win they would do whatever it takes.
