Quackers 68 Share Posted August 29, 2019 (edited) Tales of The Mud City Spoiler Chicago, a city nicknamed America’s Heart for it’s bolstering transport system that effectively linked the entire nation together from land, sea, and air. By the mid 21st century, the mob had more control over the city than the mayor’s office. The final straw occurred in 2061 when the mayor of Chicago bankrupted the city by constructing “The Illinois”, a massive mile-high skyscraper, in a misguided attempt to earn his city some recognition. The leader of the Chicago Outfit (Rumored to be descended from the infamous Al Capone) won the mayoral election in a landslide, effectively turning the entire windy city into mob territory. While the energy crisis of the 2060s ravaged the rest of the world, Chicago managed to stay relatively stable and the Mob reigned supreme until that fateful day; October 23, 2077. What remains of Chicago lives up to the original namesake upon being founded in the early 19th century, The Mud City. For nearly one hundred years a volatile and turbulent storm imbued with radioactive waste had ransacked the city in total reign. The large doses of radiation made it a perfect breeding ground for all breeds of unnatural wildlife and mutated creatures descended from humans that occupied the streets nearly a century ago. Entire city blocks were ravaged by nuclear bombs, buckling the supports of dozens of skyscrapers throughout the entirety of downtown causing a maze-like ‘over-city’ hundreds of feet above the streets. The underground sewers and canals seemingly spew forth new creatures each day, a rapidly increasing number of species from crossbreeds to mutated creatures embedded with radioactive DNA. Nearly a full century, with no end to this vicious cycle. But at long last, sunlight showered the city in its golden glow. In the mid-2160s, the city was rediscovered by several expeditions of various parties; The NCR, The Legion, both the Western and Eastern Brotherhood of Steel, various Commonwealth factions, and dozens of raider cliques that have roamed the midwest for years on end. Now, in 2170, the Tales of The Mud City shall be forged in blood, steel, and greed for all across the midwest to hear. Krefarus 65 Share Posted August 30, 2019 Faction Name: Army of the NorthwestCivilization Type: CivilizedFaction Backstory: In the late 2060s, the first rumors of Chicago had begun to filter into the Confederacy. Tales of an ancient, pre-war city, full of treasure and tech. A wondrous prize, rediscovered! Of course, Confederate pioneers were clearly not the first to hear of this prize, and would certainly not be the first to arrive. No doubt, the Mud City would be crawling with scum, tribals, mutants, and worse... But such an opportunity could not go unexploited. By 2067, the first expedition to The Mud City had been dispatched. The mission had not been long, a quick scouting operation. The only route to the city was long, and perilous, but worth it! Expedition 001 had been beyond successful, retrieving many small yet significant pieces of tech, they had even reported the metropolis to be emptier than anticipated. With such astounding success of the first expedition, The Confederacy’s Senate was eager to claim this jewel for themselves. A proper colonization mission, several thousand strong, equipped with all the necessary supplies, and accompanied by the newly formed Confederate Army of the Northwest under the Command of General Frederic Whitefield set off to their destination. Their journey was harsh. Unforeseen clashes with bandits and raiders, disease, and lack of experience caused extreme casualties and loss of equipment. By the time the expedition and the accompanying army had managed to reach the fabled city, they were nothing more than a skeleton crew of the original expedition, most of the survivors being military personnel. Now, with the Army of the Northwest arrived at its destination, it falls under General Whitefield to carry out the mission. The Mud City, it’s secrets, and it’s treasures must be secured for the Confederacy, one way or another… Character 1 (Leader): General Frederic Whitefield Overall commander of the Chicago Expedition and The Army of the Northwest. Whitefield is an ambitious and experienced General. The death of his immediate family en route to the Mud City has only made him more determined to claim it for the confederacy. Character 2: Colonel James Kingston One of Whitefield’s most capable subordinates. Colonel James Kingston commands the strongest of the Army of the Northwest’s units, usually from the thick of the fighting. He is an opportunistic commander Character 3: Lieutenant-Colonel Joseph Halleck The Army of the Northwest’s chief Combat Pioneer. Halleck is a well read and brave character. The journey was long and arduous, and many of their traditions were lost in the process, but when they finally arrived in Chicago their tribal identity underwent a drastic transformation. In the Ozarks, the Stone-Faces were often mistaken for vengeful spirits by their rival tribes due to their bark-colored camouflage, and the tribe would often use this to their advantage in combat. So, when they discovered Chicago and it was decided that the massive spires of cement would become their new hunting grounds, the tribe’s Headman symbolically caked his face in ash and dust. The tribe would abandon the spirits of the trees and instead pay respect to the spirits of the city. The tribe eventually settled in the old ruins of Jackson Park, with many fearful scavengers learning to avoid the area out of fear for their lives. The ruthless guerrilla tactics of the tribe proved more than useful, yet it was clear as the years winded by that larger and more powerful tribes were being drawn to their new lands. Catostrophy 111 Share Posted August 31, 2019 Faction: The Rust Barony Civilisation Type: TribalFaction Backstory: In the wake of Chicago’s rediscovery, many serious entrepreneurial factions, raiding groups, and dangerous warriors had begun slinking into the confines of the great city. One large tribe of fishermen far to the north was happily ignoring the region, until their chief Duke “Duke” Junson took an interest in stories read to him by the wise-women. Knights, castles, dragons, and kings--he heard stories both fantastical and idiotic. Some days he would leap around his tent, whooping and screaming at the top of his lungs while slashing at imaginary beasts from his stories. At night he’d dream of princesses to be rescued, and magical cups that granted eternal life! But dreams always come to an end, and he was dragged back to the mundane reality of his tribe. He needed to be a chief to his people, first and foremost. One day, while dividing bags of salvage and fish between bickering tribesmen, his eyes caught sight of a strange, yellowing piece of paper in one of the bags of collected refuse. Upon it was an image of a building... The image was faded and the old words were hard to make out, but it was clear to Duke that it was a castle! Or a palace! Or... something! Both? Could a palace also be a castle?! Grabbing a wise woman he shoved the old paper beneath her nose, and demanded her to read to him what it said. According to her, it was an invitation to ‘lovers of aquatic life’ to come and visit the Shedd Aquarium. After some elaboration about what ‘aquatic’ meant and what ‘aquariums’ were, Duke concluded that this was a sign. His whole body shook with excitement. He gathered his tribe together, and announced that they would be embarking on a great and noble quest into the ancient ruins of an extremely dangerous land of radioactive metal that they had been forbidden to approach in all their people’s memory. As you might expect, he and his tribe had a difference of opinion. After a recorded thirty-eight challenges to his status as chief (all bare-fisted combat, which Duke won), four attempts to poison him (giving him no more than a stomach ache), six attempts to spear him (two of which he caught mid-air), and one attempt to reason with him (which turned into another fist-fight), the tribe finally accepted that they would be entering the horrible city in the name of this ‘quest.’ But they wouldn’t be passing through the city itself-- oh no! That would take too long! They took their old fishing boats and converted them into hundreds of transport rafts. They paddled their way down the coast, past the ruined buildings, past the rotting docks, past the angry mutated creatures, and reached their destination... the disheveled Shedd Aquarium in all its ‘glory...’ it was a real fixer-upper! Duke looked as happy as a boy while gleefully sifting through the bones and broken glass for ancient relics. Now his tribe had settled around the aquarium, the question came as to what his people should quest for next... Character 1: Duke Duke “Duke” Junson, the duke of the barony. He is an adventurous soul, searching for the next great quest for his people. What that might be he is not yet sure, but he will no doubt be ready to throw himself against any dragons that may be encountered! Character 2: Wizzo “Ideas Man” Junson, shaman, knower of the old words, and brother of Duke. A spiritual adviser as well as the tribe’s foremost ‘knower of old things.’ He once managed to fix an old terminal before getting frightened and smashing it due to a prevalence of “evil green spirits.” Character 3: Brogwad “Featherhead” Junson, the tribe’s best hunter, and the best at using the ‘bangsticks.” He is a sneaky sort, and known to find things that other tribesmen mysteriously lose. Once hid from a deathclaw by standing behind it, rather than in front of it. Discord: You have it? Someone in there probably has it. Otherwise it’s ‘Mothman#3690’.
