domainoft 191 Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2012 It has been far to long since I have seen someone RP a good old fashioned cold and flu. My suggestion is a new RP event, Outbreak. One person selected in secret by the GM's or Asulon Council will be the start of it. It would need to be carefully planned so this person can direct people on the forum where to go for details about how to act out the timeline and symptoms. My suggestion is Blundermore in Alras, He is often seen walking around Alras streets talking gibberish about things under his tower and powers unseen, I believe he would be an excellent candidate for the outbreak, he is also quite old and we all know that old people spread disease and pestilence. "He is also a good RPer, which is even more important" I would like to see it progress in stages like a true outbreak, players will have to figure out what the source is, perhaps a mysterious cavern, or something in his possession like a cursed item. I would rather leave this a bit of a mystery so as to rule out no fun Metaing. We need quests, something for in city folk to accomplish that doesn't require 100 combat skill and full diamond army, mind boggling challenges that force you to interact with other players and seek out answers to unknown riddles. Here is what I propose for symptoms and a timeline. First Contact: Airborne flu.... person you meet has a cough, runny nose. Typical symptoms of a cold. Player with the outbreak rolls a 1-20, Set the contagion based on how long you have had the Outbreak, 1week = 1, 2 weeks = 2. So if you have had it for 2 weeks and you roll a 1 or 2, the outbreak spreads. Simple enough? When you first get sick: You don't know it, no symptoms not contagious. After a week: You are slightly contagious, perhaps a slight runny nose nothing out of the ordinary. Two-three weeks: Cold is getting worse, coughing starts. Four-five: coughing gets worse, night sweats Six-eight: You are very sick now, slowed movement, nausea vomiting, Still able to go around town and function though, If your the type that has to work work work. Nine-ten: Very sick, need to stay in bed most of the time, people will start to become very concerned for your health, perhaps call a local doctor or healer. +Anything beyond this will go beyond the scope of a normal Outbreak, If this proves to be fun perhaps a "Black Plague like event, or something worse in the future" I would play through a few normal sickness's before tring anything epic, good planning and making sure everyone understands how to act out and properly RP the sickness would be needed. Just one of those...I'd just finished 22 straight hours of coding and my brain is frakked up all to hell ideas "Ignore the Battlestar Gallactica phrasing". MediocreGamer 838 Share Posted February 23, 2012 psssh, we have bathhouses around the city and we have a proper aqueduct system for waste... the citizens of Alras are quite clean, sickness wouldn't spread too much as I would immediately have the secret police remove those whom are sick to never be heard from again, haha. CountJuno88 230 Share Posted February 23, 2012 Such an event like this would be fun, but it would also require the players to be capable of role-playing the plague without power-gaming or going overboard with the role-playing. Also, you must remember that you cannot centralize a disease, once you release it, it will spread and next thing you know it will have infected all of Asulon. A zombie apocalypse is something I would quite rather avoid, but everyone in Asulon sneezing on each other would also be rather boring.
