GELUNITE
Information
Gelunite is a rather brittle, salt-like crystal which can be cultivated on the northern-western coasts of Aevos. In its base form, Gelunite appears as a solid crystal yet will crumble to any degree of physical contact. The resulting salt or dust retains a perpetually low temperature and, when properly handled, has since been sought out for its use in food preservation as well as for medical applications. Though Gelunite is incapable of inflicting frost-bite, it will lead to hypothermia if ingested.
If added to fire, Gelunite will begin to lower the flame’s temperature temporarily while also endowing it with a blue hue. For this reason, this mineral has found use amidst forging in order to control the temperatures of the forge for more complex metals. Most notably, if ten measures of Gelunite are added to a forge, the temperature will be lowered just enough for Thanhium to be worked with, although only for roughly an hour.

Redlines
- Gelunite is noded through the Botany Plugin. Items made using Gelunite do NOT require an ST Signature.
- Gelunite, when processed for its Signs and Symbols, will lose its raw properties.
- Gelunite’s weight is comparable to that of salt. If placed in food or drink, it is immediately discernible by temperature, texture, flavor, and scent.
- Gelunite’s low temperature will never be enough to inflict frost-bite or other debilitating ailments of the cold. Further, the addition of yet more Gelunite will not “stack” for the purposes of combat. The temperature will always be comparable to a refrigerator at 35f/2c.
- Gelunite, if placed on armor, will offer no discernable cooling effect nor will it make it resistant to heat.
- Gelunite, if consumed, will lead to Hypothermia in quantities of (3-5) measure or more if not immediately counter-balanced with the consumption of warm substances. Though not inherently toxic, it is unwise to season food with Gelunite. “Food Preservation '' constitutes using the Gelunite to extend the shelf-life of food substances, and does not freeze it.
- Gelunite may only be consumed through bodily ingestion. This is to say it cannot be made into an inhalant.
- Gelunite cannot forcibly be shoved down someone’s throat to force consumption; the individual will gag and instinctively vomit.
- Gelunite, if being used for the purposes of Forging, will begin to lower the temperature of a Forge Fire while also endowing it with a blue hue.
- For the purposes of Thanhic Forging, Gelunite must be expended at a rate of [10] measures per “session”, which constitutes a total of 1 chunk or 2 ingots being manipulated. This is to say that for every ten Gelunite added, the Thanhic-Forger may manipulate two ingots worth of Thanhium. For example, expending a Thanhic Chunk to forge a Thanhic Short-Sword constitutes two ingots. Expending two Thanhic chunks to make a Great-Sword constitutes four ingots, and thus an additional ten measures would need to be fed to the forge.
- A “Cold Forge” may be made by binding [5] Measures of Gelunite to a Forge, albeit it will remain incapable of manipulating Thanhium. This is primarily aesthetic (blue fire) and may be used for the manipulation of Volatite.
