  6. This feels out of place for Eminence, aside from a minor tie-in to the word "Incanter". That isn't to say I don't like the basis of this addition, I actually find it would work well within a new feat which is foundationally based around incantations and verbal casting. Also, pour one out for my mute / deaf magi.
  7. I think the proposed change to ranged weapons is great, but it should not apply to any form of crossbow such as the Hand Crossbow, Crank Crossbow, or Arbalest. I think Crossbows should remain more powerful and simpler to use then bows at the cost of always requiring more effort to reload, while bows can be fired more rapidly at the cost of taking more skill and training to operate. I don't think the Arbalest should be combined with the Crank Crossbow - the Arbalest has 4x the Draw weight of the Crank Crossbow and pierces through unarmored targets. The Arbalest definitely is not equal to the Crank Crossbow. As for armor, I think they need something to clearly defining what types exist and how they interact with various types of damage. I think it's better for each kind of armor to have their own strength and weaknesses rather then just making all of them stronger to match the strongest.
  8. Phoibe Halcourt frowned softly. "Didn't I tell you you weren't expendable, Dimitri? There is only one consort, and that was you." She had never been close to Dimitri, not more than in passing considering her closeness to Ramona's mother Karyna who she warded under when they moved to Hyspia when she was only a teenager. She still remembered the day the palace caught on fire and he told her he could be replaced if he died that day, she wondered if perhaps he died with the same ideas in his head.
  9. The proud Waldenian; Nikolaus von Leopold, smiled upon reading through the new Lady Vandalore's missive "Whilst I first supported my cousin for Vandalore- Lady Adalfriede seems to be the most promising leader of our culture in our lifetime!"
  10. OOC (I'm banned anyways from being a hooligan back in the day) but Tosalian here, founder of the Tosalis. Are they back? I just looked up them in the search and saw this? If so, I'd love to hop in a discord with someone and get the lore on this. I made them when I was legit a 13 year old edgy noob and they were kind of the laughing stock around LOTC for a long-time. It was kinda awesome to see them back and in Haense. @yopplwasupxxx If you are the one leading them now, that's epic. You were always a good dude. Well, y'all, hope this doesn't get taken down by mods, but genuinely miss some of the days on lotc and hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for being a jerk back in the day.
  11. ✠ THE Originally proclaimed by the IX LORD VANDALORE and confirmed by the Second WALDENIC DIET in the Year of our Lord, 1853 PREAMBLE We the Waldenian People, recognizing the need for an established guiding precept of our blood derived from the ancient Vander traditions and those of customary Piscatoran Law both, consulting as well the decisions on the Waldenic Cultural Law of the First Waldenic Diet, and for the purpose of securing for ourselves the destiny promised to all Sons of Horen, do establish this Waldenic Proclamation and its Codes of Rights, Obligations, and Representation to, along with the Vander Code, constitute our Sacred Law. INDEX I. THE VANDER CODE II. THE CODE OF RIGHTS III. THE CODE OF OBLIGATIONS IV. THE CODE OF REPRESENTATION THE VANDER CODE The Vander Code is a simple creed dating from the earliest eras of the Waldenian people, from the days the tribes of ancient Hanseti roamed the Realm of Aegis. The Code consists of twelve tenets that the quintessential Waldenian is encouraged to follow in his daily life by tradition. The duty of the Vandalore is to observe adherence to the Code, especially among the prominent Waldenic houses. Since its return to prominence through the actions of the Order of Saint Lucien, the Vander Code has served as the primary inspiration for numerous codes of chivalry, of which Varodyr’s Code remains the most famous and widely used variant. WHY DO VANDERS FIGHT? ✠ TO FEAR THE CREATOR AND MAINTAIN HIS CHURCH ✠ ✠ TO SERVE THE LIEGE LORD IN VALOR AND FAITH ✠ ✠ TO REFRAIN FROM THE WANTON GIVING OF OFFENSE ✠ ✠ TO LIVE BY HONOR AND FOR GLORY ✠ ✠ TO DESPISE PECUNIARY REWARD ✠ ✠ TO OBEY THOSE PLACED IN AUTHORITY ✠ ✠ TO GUARD THE HONOR OF FELLOW VANDERS ✠ ✠ TO KEEP FAITH ✠ ✠ TO AT ALL TIMES TO SPEAK THE TRUTH ✠ ✠ TO PERSEVERE TO THE END IN ANY ENTERPRISE BEGUN ✠ ✠ TO NEVER TO REFUSE A CHALLENGE FROM AN EQUAL ✠ ✠ TO NEVER TO TURN THE BACK UPON A FOE ✠ THE CODE OF RIGHTS The Code of Rights forms the first table of the three divisions of the Waldenic Proclamation, which together with the precepts of the Vander Code forms the Sacred Law of Waldenia. From its decrees, denoting the unalienable rights of the Waldenian People, are derived the final two divisions. i. The Waldenian People, defined by their descent from the bloodlines of Aesterwald and Vandoria, and by their sense and declaration of belonging to the greater Waldenic culture through the observance of common customs, beliefs, dress and language, enjoy the unalienable right to EXISTENCE. a. Therefore do the Waldenian People, in being free to cherish, preserve and develop the greater Waldenic culture and its common customs, beliefs, dress and language, enjoy the unalienable right to CULTURE. b. Therefore do the Waldenian People, in being free to preserve the bloodlines of Aesterwald and Vandoria through existence and procreation, and with the certain knowledge of the fulfillment of Horen’s promise in maintaining his covenant on Terra, enjoy the unalienable right to LIFE. ii. The Waldenian People, in being free to follow their own will and make free choices where they do not infringe on the freedom of others, and without being subjected to the arbitrary decisions of others, enjoy the unalienable right to LIBERTY. a. Therefore do the Waldenian People, in being free to determine their own path and without owing fealty to any Empire or Kingdom, or any other lordship otherwise universal or not but those they willingly and under no compulsion swear to and make contracts or oaths of fealty under, or those of the inherent Waldenian Crown, enjoy the unalienable right to SELF-DETERMINATION. b. Therefore do the Waldenian People, in being free to associate among themselves, and with the certain purpose of preservation of the greater Waldenic culture, including its electoral principles and laws, and the pursuit of justice, enjoy the unalienable right to REPRESENTATION. c. Therefore do the Waldenian People, in being free to determine their own path and to honor their Creator regardless of foreign laws proclaimed out of malice or heathenry, and with the certain knowledge of the fulfillment of Horen’s promise in maintaining his covenant on Terra, enjoy the unalienable right to WORSHIP. iii. The Waldenian People, in being free to enjoy the fruits of their labor on Terra as any other Descendant, whereas they could be manifested through the ownership of land, realty, and personal belongings, enjoy the unalienable right to PROPERTY. a. Therefore do the Waldenian People, in being free to maintain their personal belongings, and in the defense of their motivation to preserve their rights to existence, culture and life hereby proscribed, and to protect their rights to liberty, self-determination and property, enjoy the unalienable right to BEAR ARMS. THE CODE OF OBLIGATIONS The Code of Obligations forms the second table of the three divisions of the Waldenic Proclamation, which together with the precepts of the Vander Code forms the Sacred Law of Waldenia. Its decrees, detailing the cultural obligations of every Waldenian, are directly derived from the existence of the Code of Rights, and together with the Code of Representation, stem from the previous incomplete iterations of the Sacred Law formulated upon the First Waldenic Diet and as parts of the obsolete customary law. i. A Waldenian is obligated never to act against the interests and existence of the Waldenian People, whether by word or practice, or in service to foreigners and non-humans. ii. A Waldenian is obligated never to forsake the tenets of the greater Waldenic culture in favor of foreign customs. iii. A Waldenian is obligated never to inflict torture, incapacitation or death upon another Waldenian, whether in captivity or in fair combat, except in warranted self-defense or as a last resort punishment for heinous crimes for which banishment and imprisonment, or the weregild, is insufficient justice. iv. A Waldenian is obligated never to subject another Waldenian to acts of tyranny or forced servitude, whether in the service of a Waldenic government or a foreign lordship. v. A Waldenian is obligated never to subvert the rightful authority and inheritance of another Waldenian, or to wage wars and campaigns in service of any Empire or Kingdom, or any other lordship otherwise universal or not bar the inherent Waldenian Crown, for the purpose of imposing claims of lordship over the Waldenian People. vi. A Waldenian is obligated never to reject the cultural authority of the Vandalore and the Waldenic Diet, or to challenge their cultural decisions that violate no rights of the Waldenian People through any means other than formal and electoral. vii. A Waldenian is obligated never to break religious unity by rejecting the Faith of the Waldenian People. viii. A Waldenian is obligated never to disrespect the rightful ownership of land, realty and personal belongings of another Waldenian. ix. A Waldenian is obligated never to restrict the ownership and possession of arms of another Waldenian in their rightful domain, except in dire situations where their own rights are in immediate danger. THE CODE OF REPRESENTATION The Code of Representation forms the third and final table of the three divisions of the Waldenic Proclamation, which together with the precepts of the Vander Code forms the Sacred Law of Waldenia. Its decrees, detailing the forms of cultural representation of the Waldenian People, are directly derived from the existence of the Code of Rights and the Code of Obligations. Together with the Code of Obligations, they stem from the previous incomplete iterations of the Sacred Law formulated upon the First Waldenic Diet and as parts of the obsolete customary law. The Code of Representation was amended by the Walter Amendment of 1947, implemented by the Second Waldenic Diet in 1948. This section therefore reflects those amendments. i. The Waldenian People’s interests, both internal and foreign, shall be represented by their cultural leadership embodied by the Vandalore and the Waldenic Diet. ii. The Waldenian People collectively enjoy the rights enumerated in the Code of Rights, and are collectively bound by the obligations enumerated in the Code of Obligations. a. A Waldenian may petition the cultural leadership of the Waldenian People for the protection of their rights. b. A Waldenian who violates the Code of Rights through acts against another or themselves, or forsakes the Code of Obligations shall be held accountable by the cultural leadership of the Waldenian People. 1. A Waldenian in severe breach of the Sacred Law shall be stripped of their status as a Waldenian and shunned by the Waldenian People. ON THE VANDALORE iii. The Vandalore shall be considered the ultimate authority on the matters of the greater Waldenic culture, and the protector of Waldenic titles and honors. iv. The Vandalore must be an adult Waldenian patriarch or matriarch in good standing, or a Waldenian figure of great renown embodying the tenets of the Sacred Law of Waldenia and the Vander Code in particular, worthy of the ultimate cultural leadership of the Waldenian People. v. The Vandalore must be elected by the Waldenic Diet by a simple majority vote of the Electors. a. Electors may nominate themselves, or be nominated by a fellow Elector. b. An eligible non-Elector may be nominated by an Elector and elected Vandalore should they accept their nomination. vi. The Vandalore is elected for life and shall serve until death, explicit abdication, or forfeiture of the honor. vii. The Vandalore shall assume the Presidency of the Waldenic Diet upon election. viii. The Vandalore shall swear a sacred oath to uphold the Sacred Law of Waldenia and the Vander Code in particular, and such an oath shall be recorded and publicized. a. A Vandalore-Elect who refuses to swear this oath shall be considered to have forfeited their service, and another Vandalore must be elected in their stead. b. A Vandalore determined to have broken this oath shall immediately abdicate or be deemed to have forfeited their service by an unanimous vote of confidence of the Electors, barring their own vote. ix. The Vandalore shall observe adherence to the Vander Code among those required to follow it, and shall have the sole authority to confer punishment upon any violators. a. Depending on the severity of the violation, the punishment may be administered in the form of admonition, a quest of penance, temporary or permanent suspension of privileges including Waldenic appointments, knighthoods, Electoral grants, and internal considerations of nobility. b. The Waldenic Diet is permitted to commute this punishment in regards to lesser violations with a simple majority vote. x. The Vandalore shall decide on the necessary collective action of the Waldenic Diet should the Code of Rights be breached by an outsider force. xi. The Vandalore shall, as President of the Waldenic Diet, be responsible for calling its conventions and submitting motions for its adjournment. xii. The Vandalore shall, as President of the Waldenic Diet, maintain its records and ensure the printing and delivery of its publications. xiii. The Vandalore shall maintain the accurate and official list and records of modern Vandalores. xiv. The Vandalore shall maintain an up-to-date, accurate and official list of the incumbent Electorates of the Waldenic Diet, and the details of its previous compositions. xv. The Vandalore shall assume the title of Elected Margrave or Margravine of Vanderfell, reclaimed and granted to the Waldenic Diet by its final hereditary holder, Hans Rovin. xvi. The Vandalore shall maintain the accurate and official list of Elected Margraves and Margravines of Vanderfell. ON THE WALDENIC DIET xvii. The Waldenic Diet shall be considered a secondary authority on the matters of the greater Waldenic culture. xviii. The Waldenic Diet shall consist of Electors, presided over by the Vandalore in their capacity as President of the Waldenic Diet. xix. An Elector must be an adult Waldenian patriarch or matriarch in good standing, or otherwise a Waldenian titleholder in representation of the Waldenian People, confirmed to be in adherence to the Sacred Law of Waldenia and especially the Vander Code. xx. An eligible person may be raised to the Electorate by the Vandalore with the consent, or a simple majority vote of the Waldenic Diet. a. An eligible person may petition their appointment, or be nominated by an Elector. xxi. An Electoral grant shall represent the eligible Elector’s House, and shall constitute the raising of their domain to an Electorate. a. As such, an Electoral grant is permanent unless revoked, and shall be inherited by the Elector’s legal heir. b. A non-Elector chosen to serve as the Vandalore shall be granted a non-permanent Electorate lasting throughout their tenure and no longer, unless raised to a permanent Electoral grant by the Waldenic Diet. xxii. An Elector must continue to adhere to the Vander Code upon confirmation, and shall swear an oath to uphold it. Such an oath shall be recorded and publicized. a. A person who inherits an Electoral grant and refuses to swear this oath shall have that Electoral grant immediately revoked. b. An Elector determined to have broken this oath shall be penalized by the Vandalore as a violator of the Vander Code. xxiii. An Electoral grant may also be revoked from an Elector deemed to have committed a gross violation of the Sacred Law of Waldenia, an Elector who has failed to attend three consecutive sessions of the Waldenic Diet, or a House deemed to have become extinct. a. A person whose Electoral grant has been revoked for continued absence may petition for their reappointment. xxiv. An Elector shall be empowered to propose motions to the Waldenic Diet regarding cultural matters that require Waldenic unity, and vote on such matters. a. All votes, unless otherwise stated, shall require a simple majority to pass. xxv. The Waldenic Diet is obligated to convene when summoned by the Vandalore, and when there remain pending motions to discuss. xxvi. The Waldenic Diet shall observe adherence to the Sacred Law among the Waldenian People, and shall have the authority to confer punishment upon any violators. xxvii. The Waldenic Diet shall be dissolved upon the conclusion of the Vandalore’s tenure through death, abdication, or forfeiture, and reconvene for a new election following the mourning period should one be necessary. ✠ In the name of the sons and daughters of Waldenia, HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, ADALFRIEDE von HEXENWALD, Princess of Minitz, Margravine of Vanderfell, Lady Vandalore, Grandmaster of the Vandorian Order and Order of the Black Eagle

  13. So I really don't know what to write here, or how to write a farewell to a server of people who I've interacted with on varying levels. I guess I'll just type my heart out? I joined LOTC at the beginning of covid, my old account dates back to June 18, 2020. When I first joined the server as a wandering soul I was watching an eventline for the Haense HRA. Though I did not hear any of the emotes, I enjoyed watching them all file out to a camp as wool blocks got put up and taken down. So when I officially got whitelisted, the CT member brought me to Haense! Granted I think it was closer to night hours, yet I still met another player. chezzygarlik was the first player I met, and funny enough became like a brother to my character "A man in a cowboy hat and southern drawl greeted her, and invited her into his home for supper while talking about her plans." Till yesterday (5/30/24) I still had his double back serrated knifes that his character gifted to mine. That is almost 4 years of keeping a set of twin blades safe. You could say I got attached to the items, and I did, as I did it for every character of mine. I kept some of the food items Althea (my first char) made, and gave it to a friend of hers that is still kicking. From my second (female) character, Aeira Mondblume I didn't have much of a plan for her besides let her be a little devil. Of course, she had a partner in crime Klaus Mackenson (InkGolem) who did questionable things together in their insanity. Love blossomed, she was gifted a promise ring, then soured, then he vanished (for ooc reasons I will not discuss). Aeira was on her own, her parents dead and siblings gone as well. Relying on her adoptive mother, she soon met a face she hadn't seen in years. Cedric Barclay, the cousin to the head of the Barclay household whom she was friends with for a while. He gifted her a golden kazoo, a memento to her childhood of leading a charge of men with her magnificent kazoo skills. Soon enough, they got married, 'bear's basket' wedding ring tied to her. The next few characters are a haze, mostly short lived chars that I made items from but didn't really get their own story. Flower Boquets, travel bags, written books, items that would never see the light of day outside of my home or inventory. Just something that I could keep to remember each character and parts of their life. To all the players I've interacted with, I'm listing you out because you all shaped me into the roleplayer I am and partially into the person I have oocly became. @ColdestPepsi@Coolcod77@Gandhi@Miniguy15736@Fionn__TWG(The Goat) @THEENTIRITYOFHOUSEBARCLAY @Willa Lupus@Lmcfc@MeteorDragon@tadabug2000@Diaolos@Harald @uarehere@Zevenity@Sandman_Plays@Wizry@Wolfey34@rep2k@erictafoya@Mio@TheosVult@0zark@Limo_man@Frymark@Jameson_h@1_Language_1@Buck@Cheezzy_Garlik and to everyone else who has already left the server or I couldn't find your @ . Thank you for being apart of my 4 year experience on LOTC. I really hope that my career in the navy goes well, and I hope it gives me some time to be able to come back one day. May the road rise up to meet you, and may the wind always be at your back.

  19. Maybe dictate reactability based on armor grade. If you have anything higher than halfplate, you cant block and attack in the same turn a speed debuff of sorts Encumberment should certainly be a thing, and efforts to dodge bodily blows while wearing full-plate should significantly reduce stamina. Think of it as wearing a weighted vest, not too much mobility in those either.

  21. I love the mention of longbow specifically, but I'd recommend specifying the type of crossbow as well (the gap between hand and crank in LotC armaments is wonky), as well as the speed. Ex. "Each fired projectile from this spell will have the speed and force of a standard longbow or hand crossbow projectile and may be as sharp as jagged stone." I'd also recommend adding the speed to the other projectiles (like bolt and arc), longbow arrow/hand crossbow bolt speed would be the likely one for Bolt, that's the standard for evocation spells given its interaction mostly with Air Evocation, Arc maybe as well? Though perhaps a redline for that about being Air Evocation Redirected? Edit: also prob add a redline like this like seen in Earth Evocation: - All projectiles, if fired simultaneously, must be fired in the same general direction. Once a maximum of 5 projectiles have been summoned, no more can be summoned and the spell must be cast again. Projectiles can be held back for 3 emotes before they fizzle out. Multiple projectiles may be fired at once, however, they must all be within the mage’s line of sight at once and all be fired in the same direction if this is the case, lest they dematerialize. These should probably be put to the same number, and perhaps specified if this means a mage can only use it twice/thrice because of complexity, or that it takes half their mana to do so. Perhaps go once, twice, thrice for T3, T4, and T5 respectively to let it scale? Perhaps word it more like "Boomsteel weaponry counts as 2 hits to a shield. Also, what is the Bubble's radius? Is it just around the caster (1m) or can it go to 3m like an Earthen Dome? Perhaps let that be decided in the casting (1-3m)? Does it take their Major Action to break the chains? And maybe a redline about forced movement (such as a gust spell) either breaking or not working. Also this is the coolest spell I've seen, the COMBOS you could pull off asdjhfaksldjfhlakf Probably change "fractions" to "fractures". And maybe put something of how hard was pushed? (ex. "If it isn't tied down or otherwise sufficiently restrained more than a grapple, it will be easily moved by the beam not unlike being continuously pushed by a strong gale or charging knight, causing some bruising and even fractures, however if the target is pinned against a surface such as the floor or a wall, the immense force will begin to cause internal trauma and broken bones where the ray hits, effectively sandwiching them between the ray and the surface.") Holy ****, maybe uh- maybe halve that? 10 meters is gonna launch someone 2x a T5 Air Evocation Gust. Maybe put methods to escape the beam too bc I'm uncertain how one would do that other than getting behind a wall. I feel like this should be twice instead of 3 times, like how most T5 spells are considered to exhaust someone. Is it a whole city in diameter? Or does it have a limit, such as a 20x20 region of the city? Or is it left to ET fiat? "One" to "Once", and I'd say "may only" personally? But also, imo, it might be better to limit it to T2 or lesser, since this already seems like a spell meant for Scions (which is AWESOME) and so it'd actually give a bit of a restriction? Sorry if this was a LOT but this honestly looks like the COOLEST magic write I've seen (I've not seen many, mainly just Lightning Evo bc they let me help a lil w/ that one :3) and I really wanna see this one pass (if I had the fortune to learn it, my silly mage girl would enjoy casting her spells all sparkly w/ constellations and shit I couldn't really do w/ elemental spells necessarily). Seriously, good work, and it looks absolutely stunning. It works almost entirely differently to the Elemental Evocations, which lets it stand out and not really overshadow any of them, which was my worry for seeing anything Arcanism-related. Amazing, amazing work, I wanted to give it my all for feedback because of that. Please, please let this pass😭.

  27. [!] An open letter would be published to the Royal Duma. To the Duma: On Duelling Naf zwy 4th hag i Vzmey ag Hynk i 532 E.S. DEAR Royal Duma, Duels have been a part of our kingdom as a rite for many years and are an important cornerstone of our culture. They are supposed to be done as events of honour - one must spill blood to regain what is lost. However, recent events have forced me to ask the question: When does a legal duel become dishonorable? To set my understanding, I shall begin with what I believe we can all agree is good. Recently, the kingdom witnessed a duel between Patriarch Villorick and Andrey that was honourable. Both men were capable, both men were spirited, both men were armed, both men had purpose and both men engaged. What was between them was agreed readily, and inspires bravery. There was little cause for concern among these men. It is the manner with which those men commanded themselves that we hold as the idea of a duel in our common understanding. And yet, this is not what I write to dispute but it is a necessary understanding to have. What was presumably at the moment of insult, a duel was demanded between Firess Anastasia Ivanovich and Firess Ilia within the barracks. While I cannot attest to what insult was taken, I can say that Ilia has a harsh tongue and I do not doubt the claims made. However, upon the demand for a duel she refused. This woman is no soldier, or fighter of any sort. In my opinion, it should have ended there and another path of dispute taken. This was not the case. Under further pressure to comply, and fearing for the safety of her friend under their desire to act as a champion, an agreement was coerced, although Ilia had made clear her refusal to truly lift arms. This woman, with nought in her hand but a candle and a prayer on her lips, was then beaten, maimed and almost strangled to death. And yet, when the witnesses became unsettled and called for a cease, there was none. When there was intervention, the violence only proved continuous. The call was to continue by Sergeant Tatiyana vas Ruthern, that the fires Ilia should simply yield, but without her voice to use as her throat was crushed. Upon instruction to tap the ground to yield, Firess Ilia did so and hostilities ceased. This duel, then, brings about questions on the ‘commonplace’ knowledge that I have been told everyone possesses on conduct of a duel. Furthermore, it had one woman capable, and one not; one woman spirited, and one not; one woman armed, and one not; one woman with purpose, and one not; and one woman fought, and one did not. What was between them was not agreed readily, but was agreed yet frankly inspires little but disgust. I believe matters such as this sully the understanding and pride we might hold in the ancient rite of the duel, and to protect this rite and our own civility we should address the vagueness and universal label of honour all things simply verbally called a 'duel' receive. It is then that I ask of the Royal Duma to reflect, debate and propose alterations to the dueling laws, in hands more capable than mine own on the following matters or more which may arise on discussion: I. Firstly, and most importantly, that a refusal to fight ought to be considered an automatic yield, and subsequent agreed conditions on loss should take place II. accordingly II. To enforce the equality of the participants in more than social class but also in appropriate weaponry III. To bar the provoked agreeance of a duel by means of harassment IV. To consider a potential revision to the illegality of intervention upon a duel, but only when the terms of the duel may exceed the limitations set by the participants or the law Lord Marus Fabien Weiss
  28. The Physician continues in their volley of the far and near, concoction after another. She notes the distant aura about The Swordsman, offering a sweet, unconscious call. "Surtr?" She coos. A faint response. "She is here." The glow of embers grew underneath His armor, and Her face showed nothing but worry.
