Braduk

 

The name of the Braduk clan is one steeped in blood and brutality. Legend tells of the grim, dark giants of the Orcish race, their judgement swift and mercy fleeting. Brothers and sisters beyond blood and oath, theirs is a bond etched with fire upon the iron of their souls, a bond shared with their steeds, the mighty rhinos whose calls are as thunder in the night.

 

Founded centuries before many of the modern clans of the current Orc society, the Braduk clan was founded in Aegis by Baderkuk, first son of Braduk. Braduk was a famed a heroic orc who saved thousands of orcs after the legendary Clash of Clans war and founded the city state of Kenuk, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest Orcish settlements of its time. In that time of history and legend the Braduks tamed and befriended the intelligent rhinos of the deserts, hulking beasts of vast difference in size and ability with sword-sharp horns and armour-thick skin.

 

From their place of birth the Braduks have cut a bloody path throughout Orcish history, their story one of rises to greatness and falls into apathy. Great Wargoths of the clan whose names sing out across the ages, Mokrag, the Blood Talon, of Asulon, Ghazkull of Anthos, Kahn, the Iron Rhino, of Vailor, led the clan into greatness only to see their legacies washed away in less than a generation. What once were a nation unto themselves are now few, their pureblooded kind on the verge of extinction.

 

To break the endless cycle of glory and damnation, great sacrifices have been made, traditions once thought inviolable have been bent and broken to save the greater good of the clan. On the throne of Wargoth sits the orc Gholug, not born of the clan and not the largest or greatest of its warriors. He was the successor to Lukra'Braduk, and Orgoth'Braduk after her. Now, loyal soldiers of Braduk and brothers thought long lost band together - forged in the crucible of adversity like the iron in their hearts.

 

And now the Braduks find themselves once more in darkness. The nation of the Orcs, the War Uzg, is no more, shattered by the tides of humanity and its elven chattels. Orckind are blown to the winds in a legendary exodus. Days of the revered past have come again - once more are the Orcs refugees and outcasts, flung from apathy and division by the brutalities of total war. Many fear this time, but not the Braduks. History is repeating itself. As was foretold in the ancient histories, the Braduks will find a new home for themselves to shelter and rebuild, to preserve and recover. A new Kenuk will rise in the world, a bastion of pride and determination.

 

A page turned anew is this allegiance of Elephant and Rhino, respite to the dying Braduk clan. It will bring great honour and prosperity, and not hinder the once almighty clan, but preserve and bolster its ability.

 

Raguk

 

Decades ago, the Raguk company was alone feared for its plentiful population. The redskin’s encampment stretched over the horizon and filled the vast expanse of yellowish desolation - a tide of red. A tide of 2000 figures, crimson like the blood that smeared their digits following a day of hard toiling.

 

Back then, they were referred to as the vanguard, and correctly so. They were the driving cogs of the Wagh Uzg; who bore an unimaginably incredible military prowess. The cogs never faltered, or grinded to a halt - a continuously operating and well oiled machine, no doubt, forged from two clans: that of Glogol, a clan notorious for trading in a human cargo; and that of Garr a group of fearless warriors.

 

For a multitude of years the Raguk - or the ‘unbroken’ - stood stalwart and firm, like a suit of the finest plate. They never buckled… that was until the day Malgunuz disappeared. As quickly as the clan founder vanished, so too did the Raguk warriors. Many migrated to other clans, bolstering their numbers, therefore dwarfing the once mighty troupe. The wargoth who followed Malgunuz was a lazy drunkard, caring more for whoring, drinking and slaving than clan ideals. His reign therefore lasted briefly, and his advisor - Dhurburz - tugged the reins from him.

 

Dhurburz’ lead was lengthy but unfortunately boasted little fruit. He was known for his strength and wroth but had little experience of leading a clan - he was merely the advisor to the ignorant wargoth of prior times. Kharak, a young man then, defeated the aged, grizzled orc in hand-to-hand combat, thus seizing power from him.

 

Kharak prevailed; a little too much, though. His success was like a raging wildfire. He began as a mere grunt, akin to every uruk, but he climbed the ranks at an unimaginable pace. He shoved aside competition for wargoth like they were insects, and garnered a sizeable group of redskins. The young ork had tugged the clan from beneath the tide, to open air. Many who left those years prior flocked back like sheep to a shepherd. He soon after ascended to Domimus and acted as interim ruler in the absence of the Rex, and eventually officially climbed to the pinnacle of orcish hierarchy - Rexdom. His lust for domination was overwhelming. It drove him to contriving a plague of the earth which would consume all those he deemed unfit. Alas, his attempt failed, and it led to the subsequent cessation of Vailor.

 

The world was in tatters, and much alike to the other populations, the orcs were too. Many had perished to the merciless pestilence. The orcish moral was too ruined. No one stood to the task of Raguk leader. But from the shadows, Malgunuz arrived, seemingly out of nowhere. He spoke tales of how the Sky gods had prosecuted him for past perversion of their laws, and tightly constrained him to a floating cell. He too climbed the steps to Rexdom.

 

Malgunuz, whilst Rex, handed Turkurz the position of wargoth. He was a young Raguk - not in regards to age, but in regards to his acquaintance with leadership. It wasn't long until Malgunuz disappeared once more, this instance assumed to be in Stargush’Stroh. The orcish race was forced into the outermost region of Tahn following the Oren-Orc war- a region of barren, sediment laden plains.

 

Upon a plot gifted to the uruks by the dwarves is where they dwell. Turkurz retained the title of Wargoth.

 

Kuntklobbera assumed Wargoth but retained the position for a short duration. An odd infection refined him to a stooping husk that was incapable of doing things for himself.

 

Turkurz therefore attained Wargothdom once more. Drokon, the mad Rex, killed Turkurz within his own throne room.

 

Aukha followed thereafter. Her reign lasted no longer than Turkurz’, and she to succumbed to Drokon’s madness, this time at the hands of Kulgarok’Dom - a peon to Drokons nonsensical Rexdom.

Discipline - Discipline and the respect for ones superiors is a revered notion and tightly enforced within the Braguk. Speaking out against the Maugoth, or merely contradicting him, could warrant a prompt strike or a lashing, or even removal of the tongue should the ‘goth see it fit. (Though this has never occured.) Elders, and the Warmachine are to be respected akin to the Maugoth. The Maugoth himself is to be adressed as ‘Goth’ Akgoth - ‘yes lord’. Nargoth, ‘no lord’)

 

Music - The Braguk find respite in singing during their vigorous toiling, to alleviate aches that may be ailing them, or simply to retain a rhythm. The guttural tones of miners and smiths rings out from their halls, and homes, and drift up from the interminable mineshafts at all hours of the day, accompanied by the clangor of pick striking rock, or hammer striking anvil - instruments of the Braguk.

 

Chants and songs alike are sung by the fearsome brutes, before battle or during times of dormancy. Within battle, the sword, and kruuk and axe are the common accompaniment to their fearsome warsongs, which thereafter granted Braguk warriors the epithet of ‘The Red Choir.’

Waghpaint - Warpaint is a key feature in orcish society, often signifying the uruks prior achievements or status - the peculiar orks of Braguk are no different. They boast paints of varying colours and shape, albeit a triad prosper moreso than other adopted styles.

    o The open hand: its name describes its form, a palm with every digit uncurled. Generally, it is painted or tattooed upon the skin in white, in bone or quartz dust.

 

    o The bloody face: a simple paint, however a more fear-inducing individual. Orks with ‘the bloody face’ rendered upon their forehead bear it to signify their feverous bloodlust, AND ability to suppress it.

 

    o The hammer: an etching embedded beneath the hide deluging the shoulder. It   resembles an eccentrically decorated smithing hammer with the face of an ork chiselled upon its side.


 

Dar Ob Grizh - Many decades ago, when the Raguk had settled into Vailor, the Wargoth at the time, Kharak'Raguk, set in motion a series of events that would allow the Raguk to rediscover the Spirits.

 

Those that decided to follow him along this path would come to create a mysterious cult beneath the scorching sands of the Uzg, where they would work with the Spirit of Blood and Bone, Gazigash, to achieve craftsmanship of unprecedented potential.

Ponytails - A Braguk, regardless of their preferred hairstyle, will usually grow out a long ponytail from the crown of their head down, braided or bound with leather or blue cloth. The ponytail is only to be cut off in the event of humiliating defeat. Braguk males popularly shave all of their head aside from the ponytail - with females there is more variation, but a common style is having an undercut beneath the ponytail.

 

History Keeping - Unlike most clans, whose histories are purely oral, the Braduks also made a habit of creating written records of their clan legends on large, word-covered leather skins that are also adorned with illustrations. As a result the Braduk histories are far more detailed and well-remembered than those of other clans, dating back to their founding in distant Aegis. (Examples can be found below in the lore section). These histories are also important in determining how best to follow the third and fourth clan laws.

 

Initiation - If a clanless Orc wishes to join the Braguks, they must be complete numerous initiation tests.  These tests can vary from obstacle courses, to riddles, but usually include a klomp with the current Warmachine of the clan (which they usually do not win). These tests are not about if the Uruk completes the tests, but the way they complete the tests, which will later be looked over by the Elders of the clan. If all aspects are pleasing and show good qualities in the Orc, they will be sworn into the clan by the Wargoth.

 

Carrying of the Golok -  Following Initiation, a new Braguk is thrown a short ceremonial machete with which they cut a ‘Z’ shaped mark into their rhino or Myrzym’s cheek - the rhino or Myrzym creates the same mark on the Braguk with its razor sharp horn. Thereafter the Braguk will carry the machete with them for everyday use and possibly in combat (although it would be inferior to most battle-purposed weaponry), generally worn strapped to the belt or small of the back horizontally in its sheath. Should the terrible day come where the Braguk is guilty of an incredibly severe dishonour he or she will be expected to perform the punishment of Uihnce with it, as detailed below.

Proceedings

Blood Taloning: Named for the favoured execution method of the acclaimed Braduk wargoth Mokrag’Braduk, the offender will be placed on their knees with their arms restrained in a stretched out 'T' position. Their back will then be sliced open, creating a large wound. The offenders ribs will individually be broken, before the lungs removed from the body, being strapped to the shoulder blades to form makeshift wings. The cause of death: suffocation.

 

Decimation: If any given party of orcs disobeys their superiors in combat or in a given task, the ancient act of decimation will be carried out. The group of orcs will be lined up, and usually every tenth orc will be chosen, and beaten to death with clubs by the other orcs. However, if the number is too few or simply one orc, the clan as a whole will engage in the killing.

 

Flaying: As the title suggests, the offender will be flayed either lethally or non-lethally depending on the severity of the offence.

 

Crucifixion: The offending ork will be nailed through his wrist arteries and Achilles heels to planks of wood in the shape of a cross, and left to starve or bleed out. Only when the body has completely rotted may it be taken down.

 

Skrote'n: A punishment reserved for males who bare no children, should they commit a great offence against the clan, they will have their testicles cut off so that they, subsequently cannot breed.

 

Uihnce: An ancient Braduk punishment, given out for only the most heinous of crimes. The orc, in full view of the clan must take an ancient Braduk weapon, a machete type blade known as a Golok, drive it into his stomach and slice it open, allowing his innards to spill out, therefore committing suicide.

 

Floht’n: A Raguk technique of ridding the honorable populance of Dark Shamanism. The suspected heretic is tied to a log, fed a copious quantity of milk and honey and milk of the poppy (to inhibit shamanical escape attempts), and set adrift upon a marshy wetland, or stagnant river where many insects reside. The milk and honey causes the bowels to move violently, which subsequently attracts insects. Death by Floht’n is unpleasant, to say the least, and usually ensues when insects - drawn to the feces - burrow into the flesh and sabotage the function of vital organs, or the Dark Shaman succumbs to exposure or starvation.

 

It is the decision of the spirit which fate they receive.

Myrzym

The desolate plain of Vailor bore no fruit for the Raguk; they had been allotted no mount, for each current were within the grasp of other clans: the braduk had their thick-skinned compatriots; and the Lur had their agile wolves - perfect beasts for hunting, but the Raguk remained without the company of a beastly companion. It is said the Wargoth of yore averted his interests from scouring the barren plain to otherworldly thespians - the spirits. And it is also said that they provided. The urukish leader returned from the plain of lifelessness with a fresh born  creature walking lamely in its infancy. It appeared like an elephant, but strode with heightened grandeur within its gait in comparison to its counterparts, and seemed - though ever so slightly - larger. A proud creature it was born, and a proud creature it remained.

 

The myrzym are, conveyed straightforwardly, bred for conflict. Their tall stature safeguards the rider from high swinging blows and their thick hide protects them from strikes of lower course. Their tusks are as sharp as razors, and viciously boast a knack for impaling oncoming traffic.

 

Though their purpose remain generally within combat, they possess cultural importance to the Raguk. They are a clear representation of the spirit's ability, and are thus respected as much as the wargoth of the clan.

 

Myrzym appear often adorned in a collection of awe-instating jewellery: typically formed from precious materials, and a product of Raguk smithing.

Fine velvets and silks are usually draped across their bulky frames, and painstakingly conceived paints cover their leathery hide.

 

In the event that a myrzym is slain in an offensive altercation, the owner is expected to mourn the loss of their companion. The remains are traditionally crafted into ceremonial armour which is donned for 15 days and 15 nights. Thereafter, the uruk is expected to tame a further myrzym.

Braduk Rhino

In Aegis, when the Braduk Clan was just starting off, a village war had broken out between the Braduk village, Kenuk, and a rivalling village led by Braduk’s half-brother, Gorjol. Dishonourable raids were leaving Kenuk in ruins, and the Braduks needed an edge. Braduk discovered rhinos roaming the mountain pass. The problem was that they only stood around the height of the average human, so they couldn’t support the weight of most Orcs. Braduk, however, still saw potential in the beasts’ sharp, sturdy horns and incredibly thick hides. After a short raid on Kenuk, Braduk decided to inspect the rhinos more closely. One was captured and brought to the village, and Braduk watched it stomp around in a pen for a while, pondering how the beasts could be used to their advantage.

Spirituality | Lûp-ob da Frûm

 

Like most Orcs, the Braguks hold fast to their belief in the Spirits and their interaction in the mortal plane. The Braguk allow all spirits to be worshipped, but chief amongst their most revered are: Enrohk, the spirit of War; Leyd, the spirit of Dominance; Gazigash, the spirit of blood and bones and Gentharuz, the spirit of hard labour. The Braduk and Raguk have served their respective, chosen spirits well over the years. The last Chosen of Enrohk was Kahn'Braduk, mighty Rex and wargoth in Athera. The greatsword of Kahn, War Maker, is blessed by Enrohk and remains in the clan's possession.

 

Moreso than most other clans the Braguks engage in ancestor worship. This is for both famed figures from their history, especially their namesake Braduk and his son Baderkuk, founder of the clan, and general reverence of past Braduks of any rank in order to honour their memory and draw on the strength of the honoured Braduks in Stargush'Stroh, the Orcish afterlife believed to exist at the zenith of the Spiritual Plane. Shrines to all Braduk ancestors are commonly erected by Braduks, as are memorial caves which depict the names of deceased Braduks remembered in their histories as well as those who have more recently joined the honoured dead. Raguk too possess similar customs, and cherish ancestors of their own: Grubgoth Wud’Fud-Raguk, and Rex Kharak’Raguk are but two of the red horde who reached enlightenment of Greater Ancestral spirits, albeit.

 

When a Braguk dies their material remains are cremated on a pyre and scattered, although certain figures who attained legendary status amongst the clan in life have been known to have their burned bones placed in large stone urns and interred in elaborate tombs.

Maugoth: Kuntklobbera’Braguk (Kaiserschlact/Wud) Gholug’Braguk (Boomzerang)

The title of Maugoth is the overall leader of the clan. Their word is final, and they have the ability to veto any and all propositions put forward by the clan. Traditionally the biggest and strongest orcs in the clan assume the rank. There are two Maugoths.  

 

Warmachine: Orgoth’Braguk (6xDestroyer)

The Warmachine is the second in command of the Maugoths’, he is to carry out tasks that are deemed not important enough for the Maugoths’ attention, as well as disciplining the clansmen, but first and foremost, the Warmachine's duty is to protect the Wargoth at all costs.

 

Warboy: Hazurk’Braguk (FreeWud)

The Warboy is ceremonially tasked with all things techie, contraptions and such, but more practically is to act as a form of special agent for the Wargoth, tracking and hunting those who have wronged the clan.

Considering joining the clan? You can join in one of three ways:

 

  • Approach the clan on your current character and ask to join. You will be tested, and if found worthy will be inducted into the ranks.

  • Create a new character that is a returning Braduk or Raguk. You can either have your character be a Braduk who was previously in the clan, or the (possibly adult) child of one or two of them born outside the clan. After testing for traits of cowardice and divergent behaviour, your character will be re-inducted.

  • Be born into the clan. Start from childhood and work your way up.
