PROCLAMATION OF IMPERIAL INTERREGNUM

 

Issued and confirmed by the Regency of the Holy Orenian Empire, 10th Sigismund’s End, 1731

Under the present circumstances witnessed by the peerage of the realm, it is duly noted that to pass the Imperial Crown on via normal succession has become impossible. In acknowledging so, a commission to investigate the potential legitimacy of the brothers of the late Emperor Alexander de Joannes has been launched; it has been furthermore determined that, pursuant to such action, to attempt to crown one of their own without due process would only serve to plunge the realm into chaos once more. It is so deemed that until such matters are resolved, and a just and righteous claimant of worthy intellect, ability, and blood, can be determined as suitable to inherit the Imperial Crown of Exalted Godfrey, that the office of Lord-Regent is to be dissolved. In its place a Lord Protector of the Realm is to be created, holding within the Council of State all those powers of the Lord Regent, and therefore of the Emperor-in-Council according to its documents of creation.

 

By popular vote among the Great Houses of the Realm and direct vassals of the Crown, and with the confirmation of the Lord-Regent John of the House de Balain, the Lord Adrian of House de Sarkozy, Duke of Adria, shall be, and is hereby declared to be, Lord Protector, and in doing so swears to the realm with certainty his will to protect its denizens and integrity until such a time as an heir is found or chosen from among the suitable peerage of the realm.

 

The Lord Protector shall, until a new Emperor is crowned, hold in trust and tend as steward to certain titles associated with the Crownlands and the Empire in Arcas, that his governance be known to all as true and just; and for the further purpose of ensuring the proper obedience of all those beholden to the Imperial Crownlands; that being the Principality of Helena and its constituent lands and cities as Governor-General; the Duchies of the Crownlands, Lorraine, and Roden as Duke; and Protector of the Heartlanders, Highlanders, and Farfolk. He is furthermore to be styled whilst holding his office as “His Imperial Excellency the Lord Protector”, and to take residence within the Rubrummagnus and the Empire’s successive palatial residences so as to cement within the common man the knowledge of his governance.

 

It is furthermore the Lord Protector’s duty and obligation to, in due time, determine the heir to the Imperial Crown of Exalted Godfrey; it is his sole right and obligation to call diets in regards to such among the vassals of the realm, or to confirm and enact within the Empire any legislation otherwise regarding the succession.
