General Criteria:

Necromancers have a scholar’s strength.  They are capable of using weapons to defend themselves, but they cannot proficiently fight with one who has studied the blade.

• This is not necessarily an ability mechanic, but an enforced roleplay mechanic.  Necromancers are first scholars, it is uncharacteristic for them to be martial powerhouses who go around wearing armor and swinging Zweihanders.

 

Aging is enforced for necromancers, as lifespan is a crucial part of playing a master of death.  They are held to the standard of practicing their race’s aging.

 

Necromancers are rejected by the monks, meaning their deaths are PKs unless resurrected by fellow necromancers (see the Ritual of Returning).

Necromancers' strength vary over their progression, where at Tier Three they degrade as if attuned to the Void, their strength can only support half-plate boneforged armor and light weaponry, but are ultimately lacking in proficiency to fight with those of greater fortitude and mastery of swordplay, tiring easily over the course of combat.

 

• This is both an ability and roleplay mechanic that must be adhered to. Necromancers are first scholars and conniving weasels, it is uncharacteristic for them to wield blades and full-plated armor with martial prowess and will easily tire over the event of hand-to-hand combat.

 

Actively robbed of their life progressing past their ordination, the tear on the soul afflicts rapid aging on necromancers, their life span a crucial part of playing a master of death, attempting to subvert their mortality. Held to the standard of their race’s aging, their tattered soul denies Corcitura’s Longevity, despite still being compatible. Alchemical remedies such as Tawkin, Sprog's Elixir, and Alteration are in-effective in masking age, solely relying on the Draught of Incite to feign youth. Although, in the case of the latter, alchemy may still be used to change a necromancer's appearance, albeit it aged according to their tier. Reaching the ends of their natural life, Necromancers will wither away, effectively PK'd.

 

Due to the weeping void of Lifeforce wrenched onto a Necromancer’s soul, their bodies are unable to support the strain of Alchemical procedures that promotes strain on the body. ( for example: Greater Tawkin Mutations, Grafting, etc.)

 

En-shackled to the Lifebanks in death, Necromancers are rejected by the monks and other means of revival (Klones and Machine Spirits), their deaths soft-PKs unless resurrected by their fellow necromancers (see the Ritual of Returning)

 

Seeded deeply with the pools of the Heith-Hedran, their body suffering outwardly with age and the craving of flesh, the Necromancer’s mental and physical makeup are forever torn. With that, things like romantic relationships are regarded as alien and heavily avoided, their endeavors better focused on unwinding schemes and bolstering their monstrous creations of patchwork skin. Although, they may use preexisting bloodlines for their schemes, but with no emotional attachment whatsoever. Additionally, Necromancers are infertile, incapable of fostering children and any attempt would yield a stillborn.

 

• This is an enforced roleplay mechanic, Necromancers are sacrilegious beings that sew rotten, maggot filled flesh together to erect forces of undead to put forward their schemes. With such drastic changes to their bodily makeup, it is uncharacteristic for them to foster romantic and familial relationships outside of finding like-mindedness and brotherhood with their coven members and Descendants, able to work together to bring to fruition schemes compared to affairs.

Necromancers adhere strictly to a PK clause system that requires you to be brought back by your fellow necromancers upon death, their souls unable to attach to anything such as Klones, Machine Spirits and other forms of revival. (See Thaumaturgy, Rite of Returning.)

 

Necromancers are unable to harbor major Alchemical alterations of any form, including Tawkin Major Mutations, Grafting and etc. While able to change their appearance alchemically, they will appear as elderly as according to their Tier.

 

The aging of a Necromancer cannot be slowed outside of Draught of Incite, rendering Corcitura Longevity, Sprog's Exlixir, and other non-Necromantic de-aging processes null, reduced to their Descendant lifespan

 

Due to the nature of Necromancers and the wounds seared upon them, psychologically they cannot form romantic connections with both their peers and Descendants.

 

Necromancers cannot sexually FTB under any circumstance.

 

Reasoning:

Necromancy itself is a deplorable practice that breaches morals across many fronts, spending my time as one over the span of a year + I’ve watched many ways to subvert Lore which defeats the spirit of it. I wish to further cement Necromancy as a dark magic rather than a special flavor for an OC to allow proper antagonist narratives to be developed and their archetype upheld instead of spun by unspecified areas. This facet is better suited as the forfeit of their soul to achieve abhorrent, dastardly things and should be upheld to this standard.

 

My reasoning to remove Romance is thus:

 

Roleplaying as a necromancer and then venturing into romantic roleplay is downright absurd and jarring. Let's face it, necromancy is all about toying with death and raising the dead – a practice that's steeped in darkness and often carries sinister connotations. On the other hand, romance is a realm of love and emotional connection, about as far from necromancy as you can get.

 

The emotional clash between these two themes is nothing short of bizarre. Necromancy revolves around exploring dark, twisted emotions and power dynamics, which is light years away from the warm, affectionate emotions found in romantic storytelling. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Necromancer characters are often depicted as mysterious, aloof, or malevolent, which doesn't exactly set the stage for the tender, open-hearted, and loving dynamics typical of romantic narratives. The sheer incongruity of these character traits makes it seem like a bad joke.

 

While roleplaying allows for creative freedom, it's no wonder that pairing necromancy and romance can leave others scratching their heads in disbelief. The weirdness of this combination is a glaring reflection of the stark contrast between these two opposing themes, and it's hard to fathom why anyone would want to venture into such a peculiar and disjointed roleplay scenario.

I would not say they are comparable to voidal mages. Voidal mages cannot use half-plate after being one for a certain amount of time and comparable implies equivalency. Minor nit-pick.

I think the idea that necro's must be dark and spooky at all times to be just. . . Edgy. I've been on the server since 2015 and have hung out with fellow necro's in the past. Whilst they obviously need to be on the evil scale of alignment chart and are in fact deplorable beings I do think some don't see themselves as such.

 

Having all necromancers be unromanceable dark people who hate anything nice, only wear dark colors and go "gahh! No! Feelins bad" is rather one dimensional. It doesn't allow for character growth and gives you a small amount of ways you can actually rp on that character. I personally don't see limiting ones self to such a degree necessary. So unfortunately I am going to -1 this.

Does romance really bring forward character development? There are many facets of character development that do not require the reliance of engaging something that is objectively venomous and a much more overarching issue on the server. Romance in and of itself should not be hinged upon to develop a character and rather should be avoided considering the possibility of OOC feelings becoming involved and a greater problem developing. For one, I've developed my Archlich through vast achievements, there is merit and depth in the pursuits of a character rather than who they share Minecraft wool blocks with late at night.

 

The magic itself is a menagerie of things that does not promote such warm-touchy things, there is a way to be tasteful and one such player @Hephaestusis a testament to this. My stance is, if you want to do romantic, kissy-kissy roleplay, don't get ordained as a Necromancer.

I am of the firm believe that if you cannot separate rp from ooc you should avoid romance rp at all costs. That being said many people know how to do just that. I am not saying one needs romance rp to develop as a character. I am just saying it is a nice thing to have on the side. It offers a different side to the character and not all romance is warm and fuzzy. I personally see necro romance as hilarious due to how dark it can be.

I don't really care about the romance part but moreso that it makes someone your average dark and emotionless necromancer, which I guess, it's fine if that is what you deem fit for the magic! However, I'm a bit tired to emote and see such things nor is my complete cup of tea. My question is, are people going to be given a chance to drop the magic if this gets accepted though?
