Issued by the

LADY PALATINE

Naf zwy 5th hag i Wzuvar ag Byvca i 557 E.S.

IN THIS TIME OF CONFLICT WITH THE SHADOW, IT IS THE LEAL LORDS OF THE REALM THE HAESENI MUST LOOK TO FOR STRENGTHENED DEFENSE. Recently, the Lord Marshal has come to me with reports of lacking numbers and supplies. A small interest in the great threat pressing upon our borders. Only the stalwart members of the Brotherhood and Marian Retinue have rallied to this righteous cause–but that is not enough.

This is a public declaration, made unto ever peer and noble within our realm. If you’re capable of providing provisions, or are an alchemist with skill in oils and potions, or a smith who forges blades meant to cut down darkspawn in the field. The Highlander realm calls upon you, to rise to your duties as sworn lords of Haense and give all that you can in defense of this realm and its sanctity.

I vow to head this call to arms myself, and ride out with the Lord Marshal and his retinue upon their next excursion and any that follow thereafter. Though no warrior myself, I have inherited the brave heart of my Ruthern forebears. If I should come to perish within that frozen wasteland, I shall proudly do so alongside my fellow Haeseni.

In addition, I send forth my own son, Prince Sigmar Lorik of Galahar, to act as representative of the royal house of Barbanov-Bihar in these matters of our defense. Though young, he shows wisdom beyond his years and a passion for his countrymen that I myself share so strongly. I trust that he shall represent the blood of Barbov to our utmost pride and satisfaction.

"Allow me, my Lord. It is my duty as your bannerman." Antonio Fuentes looked to Lord Ludovar, his face ungiving of emotion. "This is the way."

Magnus would toss and turn in bed from nightmares inflicted upon him the undead scourge. He woke up in a cold sweat, feeling the silver scar around his neck, and eyeing his sheathed blade in the corner of the room for reassurance. He will have his revenge.

Jan Radovanic was unaware of this missive, for he was stranded with the princely band on the desolate slopes of the Mountain. As he sat by the weakening flame of their camp, cleaning the carcass of a wolf, the boy thought of home. The troubles in the Ailmere were known to him, as well as the failure of small bands of Haeseni that set out into the frozen north. Their plight was much like his own. In this moment, he thought of his father, and the wisdom passed unto him.

"It is the duty of the lord to to pay his dues, to maintain his retinue, and to raise it at the command of his Koeng."

How easy it would be if the Haeseni traded their quills for blades. Yet there were no retainers in the realm. No bannermen of lesser lords, sworn to House and home. He thought of the stories of the bogatyr, of the grand ambitions of the heroic age. Where were these men now? Jan did not know. If they could not stand against skeletons and goblins, the realm would surely crumble against their fellow Man. The common boy simply shook his head, and set back to the task at hand.
