  1. That's kind of dumb to submit lore that only applies for people who want the lore to exist. How does one teach a class in an LOTC university about these firearms? When somebody who does not like the gun lore and always reverts gun CRP to crossbow mechanics walks into the classroom, does the entire class suddenly switch to learning about crossbows, or does the player who roleplays in a world without firearms see their character learn about firearms that do not exist in their own version of the lore? If the lore needs an opt-out mechanic to be fair, maybe it should be reconsidered. I want lore to be server-wide and universal and not subject to whomever the lore is being applied to. Like, I don't think an OP magic that uses "well it's ok you can just opt out of this magic applying to you and have it revert to fire evo rules!" as its excuse would be accepted on LOTC, just saying.
  2. Ok time for an actual critique: 1: What is the maximum range? You have not mentioned a maximum range anywhere on this lore post and I think that's vital information that ought to be included. 2: Why push for musket lore before we even have earlier firearms like the arquebus or matchlock? Are we just going to suddenly invent flintlock muskets without any intermediary steps in firearm technology? I think firearm lore is a lot more likely to be accepted if this problem is solved somehow. A matchlock gun or other type of pole mounted hand cannon is something that the staff might be more willing to accept. Those sorts of earlier firearms would work better with LOTC's more medieval/fantasy theme and allow for all the gunpowder musketeer stuff without skipping past the days of chivalry and bravado entirely and moving towards masses of soldiers in fancy dresses shooting at each other in line battles praying they don't get obliterated by a cannonball or stray bullet. I know that Oren already has the powdered wigs and post-enlightenment government and philosophy, but that doesn't mean we get to skip right to muskets without any previous developments needing to occur first. 3: Since bullet wounds are highly prone to infections, and since LOTC medical knowledge is not quite up to modern standards, I feel as though the damage of bullets should be nerfed to be more in line with crossbow bolts or else guns will just be crossbows but more deadly. I can't imagine myself agreeing to somebody using these rules over crossbow rules with the way it's set up, as the gunman has a 50% chance of dooming my character at any range (regardless of what armor my character is wearing) since "normal" bullet damage is still deadly as ****.

  4. I make a tech support thread about threads not showing up in Recent Topics and my thread doesn't show up in Recent Topics. Poetic.

  5. I've recently noticed that some subforums don't show new threads in Recent Topics. The Knoxville subforum underneath Haense, for example, does not show up in Recent Topics. A guide I put into the roleplay guide subforum also failed to show up in Recent Topics. Is this a known issue that's being worked on or is there something else I should do to get this cleared up? EDIT: Naturally, this thread doesn't show up in recent topics either.
  6. How is it goin' xyrill!
  7. I think the staff should allow AK-47s and ICBM's and then go on vacation for a week and see what happens.

  9. [!] You find a slightly crinkled letter in your mailbox. Market Fair! ~Lovely ol' Knoxville, the newest halfling village in Almaris!~ In celebration of the spring planting, it's time for us to make good use of the markets in our wee village o' Knoxville! All biggun folks are invited (especially our neighbors out in Attenlund). Farm goods will be traded away, and the tavern will provide free booze for the visitors! Make sure to bring something worthwhile to trade, as minas will not be accepted! The fair will take place on tha' next Pumpkin Day, right as the spring is beginning to turn to summer and the planting season wraps up! Be there or be a rotten egg! The following parties are given EXTRA special invitations, beyond the general invitation for all bigguns who wish to attend! -The Amador family up on the hill above Knoxville! -The li'l Aevaris estate out in the wilderness of Attenlund! May all have a good toime! -Filibert Applefoot ((4 PM EST, TOMORROW the 5th of June, 6/5/2021))
  10. Let's gooo, big halfling recruitment time!

  11. Halflings are actively seeking to recruit new players! We have 2 villages on Almaris at the moment, Knoxville in Haense and Bramblebury in Elvenesse. Both of them are pretty decent and have cool stuff going on in them! Link to Knoxville discord: https://discord.gg/q2g2PYbv8e How to get to Knoxville: Knoxville usually has roleplay from around 2 PM EST to as late as midnight EST. It has some nice neighbors out in Attenlund and decent farming RP. Link to Bramblebury discord (also used for general halfling discussion not related to any village): https://discord.gg/uXsA9wq How to get to Bramblebury: ((not sure if this road path is accurate)) Bramblebury runs events on the Spicy Shrimp (the big ship moored in the village) and has a bakery ran by @Rioling Link to halfling roleplay guide (slightly oudated): Link to halfling burrow building guide: Halfling Skinning: Let me know if there's anything else you want or need if you're making a halfling persona!
  12. "'ow are weh supposed ter send a bird ter "Anonymous" again fellas? Oi dink oi forgo'. Is dere ah aviary somewhere 'n Almaris addressed as such?" questions Filibert Applefoot as he reads this missive off in Haense.
  13. I've had nothing but good interactions with Orcs for the past few years. There's some goons yeah, but that's true for every nation and especially nations at war. The festival held most recently with the big ol' PvP brawl was really fun, and shamanism is a very cool magic that I have many fond memories of. Whether or not you like or hate the Orcish community OOCly probably depends on whether or not you're at the business end of the Krugmar war machine. If the Orcs are actively raiding you, you probably don't think of them as much beyond PvP goons who happen to have a nation they're attached too. If the Orcs aren't hostile towards you, they're a pretty cool culture and community to hang out with sometimes. While I haven't spent too long playing an Orc myself personally (only ever got dragged into the race when MicBox wanted me to play one), the times I've spent hanging around Orcish cities have been decent as well. Just plan more festivals, try to make shamanism great again (I wouldn't know how exactly to do this since I have next to no knowledge of magic on LOTC), and keep being an awesome culture and community. Try not to get too toxic and everything is golden. People will always hate Orcs for being a culture that makes use of conflict and warfare, so it's your duty to prove the haters wrong and show the server that Orcs are and always will be a treasured part of the server experience.
  14. The skin is up to LOTC standards, so any troubles it will bring will be due to roleplay and not anything else.
  15. [!] A note is pinned to the Knoxville Noticeboard Farming Plans! ~Icarus in front of fields of Knoxville!~ As our village is properly founded now, t'is time we set our efforts towards putting proper food on the table! Here be my proposal: -Split our fields into 3 different groups for planting! -For each field, we do a sort of crop rotation, growin' winter wheat one year, root crops another year, an' oats for the third year, so that the soils of any one field does not get depleted. The three different planting groups are thus all on a different crop every year, giving us ample variety all of the time! -We devote time to properly weeding the crops once planting finishes, raking them back into the soil to once again become nutrients! -And once all of our harvesting duties be finished, we hold a big festival! T'a Planting Calendar: Spring: Plough fields for oats and root crops with our mould-board plough, sow them with seeds using dibbling sticks, and then harrow the fields with bundles of hay to cover the seeds with dirt and keep them protected from birds! Summer: Weed the crops with rakes and sickles. Take care of any gardening work that needs to be done, early summer be a good time for planting any fast-growin' herbs! Root crops mature late in the summer, so they can be dug up with shovels and prepared for future planting! Autumn: Harvestin' of winter wheat begins in late summer an' early autumn, and the oats be harvested a little bit later since they nay sprouted over the winter and early spring as the wheat did. Scythes ought to do good for the harvest, so we should stock up on a few good ones. Finally, winter wheat be planted in the autumn, to be harvested next year. Since root crops can be harvested earlier than oats, the fields sowed with root crops will be planted with winter wheat for next harvest. Winter: Fertilize the fields with any spare manure, take care of forestry work and animals, and otherwise stay warm and cozy! Weh rotate fields from one crop to another as the years go by. First a field grows oats, then it grows root crops, then it grows winter wheat, and then it be growin' oats again, and so on and so forth. So, what'chah think? Anybody have better plans for how to organize our fields? -Filibert Applefoot, halfling of Knoxville ((Each IRL week will correspond to a different season and have different farm-related events done within said week. Hopefully this will make Knoxville a good ol' proper farming village!))
  16. "Oi may 'ave ter visi' Bramblebury again ter ge' some baked goodies!" says Filibert Applefoot as he serves drinks in his Knoxville tavern.

  19. [!] A small note is pinned to the Knoxville noticeboard ~Meeting t'a neighbors!~ "Lo fellas! Lookin' fer some help brewing the first brews of Knoxville, now that we have tha distillery set up an' such! Our early spring crops should suffice for brewin' materials fore the main planting season begins! This Pumpkin Day, I'll be making some brews! Let's make them good brews 'ndeed! -Filibert Applefoot" ((7 PM EST, TODAY on Sunday the 30th of May, 2021))
  20. [!] You find a flier tucked away into your mailbox Attenlund Development! ~Knoxville, the newest village in Attenlund~ Lo there everybody! I've noticed that despite many folks moving into this 'Attenlund' land out to the east, the land remains untamed and wild. The forests are silent and lack game to hunt, and the road networks of Haense nay go beyond the lakeside mountains many of us inhabit. I wish to correct this! If we pool together our resources, I'm sure it can be done (and at a reasonable pace too)! Instead of waiting for the big city folks to come and use their resources to solve all of our problems for us, we can take action right now and improve our lives! This flier here is lookin' for interest in such things. I myself can provide some good road building materials and some bank tokens when needed. I'd love to see what others could provide for our mutual growth an' development! Please address any letters to my burrow in Knoxville, I'll be using that as a sort of base of operations for the meantime. Signed, Filibert Applefoot Filvendor Aevaris Ellisar Aevaris
  21. I love Oran. It is my favorite part of the world. Every day I go to sleep safe and sound knowing that the lovely land of Oran exists.

  23. [!] You find a note slipped into your mailbox! Burrow Party! ~Lovely ol' Knoxville, a land covered in morning dew and flowers~ Oi ye halfling lads and lasses! It's been a wonderful time makin' Knoxville with you, but it's time we stop being all serious and work-y and get to the proper business of partying! Since me burrow is just about finished, I'll be hosting a small gathering there! There will be food and maybe a bit of booze (we'll see if I can get the brewin' facilities set up for that). Come on over ter Knoxville next Pumpkin Day for quite the celebration! -Filibert Applefoot, halfling of Knoxville. ((3 PM EST, no pressure to attend if that time doesn't work for you!))
  24. ((love it! Please do more of these!)) Filibert Applefoot, a small halfling with a straw hat, adds some finishing touches to his burrow at Knoxville, wiping the sweat off of his brow. "Dang, could realleh use some o' dis weird herb crud righ' abou' now. Oi needa break" He'd say as he closes the door behind him.
