President de Guise chuckled audibly as President Sherman was whisked away by his own security team. He even offers a small wave goodbye that he hopes would show just who has won this negotiating. The French President eyes Vice President Baker as he enters, watching him take a seat with a coy smirk on his face. 

 

He listens to the exchange with King Asrul and then chimes in, his voice rising above the others until there is a hushed silence in the room.

 

 

"Ah, such a shame that your predecessor has lost his temper and sanity. However, I must inform you that his actions shall not go unpunished and should the United States wish to re-enter the European sphere of prosperity then there shall be a heavy price to pay. I have here listed a set of demands which upon completion our trade embargo shall be lifted. 

 

First, the turning over the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz to the French Navy. It shall be refurbished and repurposed for the exclusive use of the French Navy. This shall cover the costs of lost French, Italian, Swedish, and German trade. 

 

Second, a payment of 35.5 Billion USD to the Swedish government for disrespecting their independence and attempting to take them from their European brothers. 

 

Third, the nations of Cuba and Venezuela will have their independence guaranteed and United States intervention south of their border will be nonexistent. 

 

Fourth, the United States shall not intervene in any wars in Asia or Europe unless directly attacked themselves. India shall not be allowed to persuade you to join them and neither will Japan or the ULC. 

 

These are our demands Mr. Vice President, I am sure that you shall do the wisest thing and accept each and every one otherwise we may have a terrible issue on our hands that no change in leadership can fix alone."

 

President de Guise would then find his seat once more and make a short nod to King Asrul of Indonesia and his European allies, his point having been made.

The French government agrees to join METO under the condition that it is not entirely dominated by Germany and each member state has equal rights when deciding actions of the alliance.

We will not intervene or even place a single-troop south of our border as long as there is not an attack on U.S soil. The borders of Cuba, Venezuela, or that of any other foreign country will be respected.

 

The United States has already started putting isolationist policies in place. However, keep in mind, we act with our allies. We will not forge any alliances with any Asian leader, other than South Korea. The U.S and South Korea have been and will continue to be  the greatest of allies. No other interventions will be made, unless it is in the aid of South Korea.

Indochinese Democratic Republic

 

The troops of the airborne division remain stationed in the far north of the country, and begin to be formally equipped with the new 75mm type cannon. Not much is known about what they are training to do, or where they will end up going.

 

Several of the T-72 tanks are chosen to be recipients of the 188mm gun in development. They undergo work in the national foundry in Hanoi. Those left over are also worked on, being up armored and having new and more powerful engines installed. 

 

The special dry docks to the Northwest begin production. As of yet, it is unknown what they will be working on to the public, and special military police detachments are sent in to enforce secrecy. Loads of materials begin to arrive by the train stations that were built nearby.

 

Economic output continues to grow, the factories producing more consumer goods to be enjoyed by the local populace as well as foreign investors. Work conditions are improved, although salaries continue to be rather low for the moment.

 

Diplomacy and Foreign Policy

-After deliberation in the House of People, a trade bill is formally offered to Indonesia.

-It is made public by the Confederacy that any actions by the South Korean government towards the North will be supported militarily. 

-Trade with the United States ceases until it is made clear who is in power and whether they would accept to renew trade.

-The foreign office extends an offer of trade to all the nations in METO with which it yet has no relations (France and Germany)

 

The Peace Conference

The Premier watches as a Coup is set in motion and succeeds in less that a minute. He chuckles rather loudly, making a comment about American efficacy.

Threats are issued to the other Balkan countries to join under Italy, perhaps fear of swift conquering is amiss to these tiny nations.

We are excited to reopen relations with your nation and are fully prepared to participate in further talks with the United States to help re-solidify our relations." 

 

DIPLOMATIC/MILITARY ACTIONS

 

In order to test the mettle of the new American Government, the French army launches the attack that it had been preparing for several months. The fleet stationed in the Atlantic launches stealth bombers to bomb northern Spanish cities as troop transports land men on the northern coast of the country. The French Marines storm the southern beaches, quickly seizing Gibraltar and moving further along the coast. A strategic task force of 30,000 lands in Barcelona to secure the city and force the Spanish army to stretch its forces thin. News of the French invasion of Spain would quickly reach the ears of the leaders at the conference in Washington. 

 

 

The research projects begun several months ago continue as planned and early prototypes of each one are constructed, the Napoleon II undergoes heavy testing along the northern edge of the Sahara desert in Algeria while a the tank, now dubbed the Bourbon-A1, also sees increased development along the northern coast of France. 

 

 

The Belgian Military's project to develop an advanced fighter aircraft continues development and continues along its projected course. The first few prototypes are tested in the North Sea and go well, however the special engine designed for the aircraft is causing some issues in testing.

The Western Republic United Empire of China

 

 

With its industry revitalized and new forces of battleships and corvettes launching off of docks, Western China prepares the third phase of its Operation Meaning of Red. Modernization continues, estimated to be done in (5 pages).

 

During the peace conference

The government in Manchuria, with the firm belief that Western China will save them, has few guards in place and its military all but combined with West China's at the standstill outside of Dandong. Mr. Qiao was among those present at the council office in the Manchurian capital area. His family back in Hong Kong General Ng promised to take care of, and he would do anything for unity in China.

 

At the same time, the still communist Eastern China situated in Beijing holds an iron grip on its oppressed people. Riots still continue in the streets, and the PLA is occupied with stopping the riots. One Mr. Wang, who had only recently become prominent in the Communist Party, steps up to the podium of the stage with all Eastern China's leaders in the room, a button behind his back. His nieces and nephews that he had visited days before in Nanjing were cared for by the best tutors, and promised good education. Now was the time.

 

Explosions in the government buildings of both factions of China can be heard, and the Western Chinese army quickly takes control of Manchuria and most of the forces in Dandong break off towards Eastern China, while on the border of Eastern China's borders West China moves its main ground forces in towards Beijing. A proclamation goes out across all taken territory that they have been liberated, and the Western Chinese army soon sits outside of the Beijing area, where a large battle seems to be about to begin. The people of China chant the General's name, many supporting the reinstitution of Mandate Law and the Celestial Empire.

 

Tibet is released as an independent nation, since was considered too troublesome by the government to continue holding it. (Only the province of Tibet was released; most of the Western Bulge area is still under control of West China, just a southern strip was released).

 

At the peace conference

One of the officers that had accompanied General Ng steps forward and whispers something in his ear. He smiles, continuing to listen to the international leaders confront each other with terms. The Japanese Empress wasn't here to make a deal for peace, but that deal could wait.

 

All trade deals are accepted.

The United States of America

 

President (or former President) Douglas Sherman appeared on television whilst the conference was taking place. Impeached by the will of the American people, he hung his head in shame and headed home. American ports started buzzing with life again, and a sense of nationalism swept the nation. Congress asks for a trade-agreement with all Western European nations since their terms were accepted and the embargo was lifted. South Korea is offered the continuation of its Military-Alliance. In fact it is offered a brothers-in-arms treaty, where the two countries share everything except for a government. Indochina, Indonesia, India, and Western China are all offered trade agreements, and preparations to inaugurate Vice President Baker, begin - a few days after the Peace Conference.

 

The U.S.S George H. W. Bush is stripped of its belongings (like chairs and aircraft and stuff), and the ship makes its way to France. Border Patrol on the southern border of the United States is increased dramatically to prevent a potential invasion or attack. Soldiers are careful not to step on Mexican soil. All U.S personnel stationed anywhere other than South Korea or the Pacific Islands are withdrawn and taken home.

 

The U.S allots the owed 35,000,000,000 USD to Europe.

Peace Conference:

 

Baker listens to the other countries, when Four-Star General Garry Halverson quickly enters the room, whispers into Baker's ear, and rushes out. Baker keeps a poker-face, and nods. "I see your invasion of Spain was successful, President Guise. Congratulations." He clenches his fist under the table, though. The French were testing him - watching him to see if he kept his word. Wanting to change the subject, he looks over to the UAA leader. "I don't seem to know who you are, sir."

Technological Improvements! All nations advance five turns in constructions.

 

Golden Ages! Economies fix themselves - the U.S and Europe lift out of recession. Indonesia, Russia, and India have a surplus of money. All economies become more stable.

 

African Might! Nations with territories in Africa are asked to aid the rebel organization Tufundu in defeating the Caliphate regime in Africa.

 

Spain falls to the French. However, the Islamic Caliphate asks for the Port of Gibraltar.

The Kingdom of Indonesia

 

 

 

As the peace talks dragged on in Washington, King Asrul's orders were being followed to the letter in Jakarta. This was the year that many plans laid much earlier finally came to fruition. The naval yard near Darwin is finally complete: by far the largest in the world, it stretches across more than three miles of coastline and juts out far into the sea. This is the place where the King's mighty fleet is to be built. In the very center, three drydocks immediately catch an observer's eye. They are huge, larger than any ship ever seen. With the structure in place, shipbuilding commences immediately, though what exactly this shipyard will produce remains to be seen. ((Due to Mod Post, this will be complete on my next post))

 

Nearly simultaneously, the CMR alerts King Asrul that their AI system is ready for practical implementation. Dubbed the Overlord system, it is a highly flexible computer program which excels at pattern recognition and can effectively make decisions based on these patterns to achieve a goal. When the system consistently beat human pilots in dogfight simulations, the first practical implementation was obvious, and the similarly-named Overlord drones have been designed to coincide with the completion of the AI system.

 

Smaller than a manned fighter jet, the drones are cheaper to produce, and are designed to be stored compactly, attached to tracks in specially-designed underground hangars. They launch in rapid succession, shot out a port which feeds the track onto a near-vertical tower. As each drone ascends the tower, its propulsion systems engage, and by the time it flies off the end it's ready for action. The system allows for a huge amount of inactive drones to be stored in one place and launched far more quickly than on a normal runway, though the drones are of course capable of that as well. As soon as the Overlord system is deemed ready, 200 of these machines are commissioned.

 

Designs for a land-based application of the Overlord system are underway in the form of the Tsunami tank. The concept is to create an amphibious light tank that can flawlessly cross rivers or land on beaches. To achieve this, unneeded weight is stripped away, and the treads are specially engineered to double as floats. The electronic systems are of course completely waterproofed, and the tank will be armed with both a light cannon and a machine gun, each of which is capable of firing in independent directions.

 

In the midst of this, Asrul's next orders arrive, accompanied by a healthy amount of funding to make them possible. A new generation of vehicles is to be conceived, and from the moment the assignment arrives, it becomes clear to everyone working on it exactly what these vehicles are for.

 

The first and highest priority are the supertroopships. Hulking mmonsters, each one would be able to transport up to 15,000 personnel, along with landing craft and strike helicopters.

 

The actual landing vehicles are the second project. Existing landing craft are modified to fully enclose the soldiers inside and to provide slightly heavier armor. A single deck gun mounted on the front and controlled from within is meant to provide covering fire, and the exit is now at the back of the vehicle. No longer will disembarking troops lack cover on hostile shores.

 

Third, suspecting a need for antipersonnel support in the future, designs for a special antipersonel tank are drawn up. The design is simple, and apart from a small missile launcher at its rear, the vehicle has no high-caliber weaponry. It does, however, bristle with machine guns. The antipersonnel tank is also equipped with canister launchers, a fact which some in the department protested to but which was added anyway.

 

 

Finally, the CMR draws designs for a new main battle tank for the kingdom. The war department wants a symbol of Indonesian power, a vehicle whose appearance will be enough to send the enemy into a blind rout. And so, the designs for the Kiamat tank take shape. A gigantic beast, it dwarfs the competition, and so do its twin cannons, large enough to fell an average building in a single shot. Two missile launchers complement the main guns, and are to be used for defense from aerial attacks as well as the occassional long range strike. Machine guns are installed to mow down infantry, and the depleted uranium armor of these massively expensive vehicles is several inches thick.

 

Trade flow increases with America, and the new global boom shows itself in Indonesia more than anywhere else. Jakarta harbor becomes among the busiest in the world as commmerce flows throughout the archipelago. As countries flock to open themselves to Indonesia's merchant fleet, trade offers are broadly accepted. Indonesia and her allies also do their best to keep India isolated, as trade to the subcontinent has more or less ceased altogether due to the blockades and the submarine attacks off the Cape of Good Hope.

The People's Republic of Sweden

Whilst gladdened by the US' change to leadership, the Swedish government was also suspicious of it. It would be fairly hard not to treat such a sudden change in administration and diplomatic position without treating it with a small amount of skepticism. Regardless, the trade offer from the US is accepted.

With the jump in the economy, it would not take long before revolutionary mindset die down in the other countries. Socialism had to strike now. The socialist revolutionaries in Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Greenland are coerced into attempting open revolution. ((MOD REQUIRED TO GIVE OUTCOME)) Just in case, the Swedish military prepares or mobilisation, but not against Finland, with the newly completed ships joining the preparations.

Meanwhile, the Swedish government, seeing the attempt by the US and Russia, becomes interested in a potential space program, for a manned mission to either Mars or the Moon. FRANCE, GERMANY, and INDONESIA are invited.

GERMANY

 

Hans, though surprised at the sudden change of US leadership, smiled and nodded to his European allies at the conference. The isolationist United States would mean no Big Brother watching over the world, no strong ally to defend the Russian empire. If there was a time to wage war, that time would be now.

 

The production and design of the Rommel-II tanks are nearing completion months ahead of schedule, with prototypes already being sent out into the field to test. The twin cannons can fire accurately at an excess of 5.1 kilometers away, and have a record reload speed of 2.447 seconds with a MK-IV auto loader. However, the hope of evolving this kind of tank into an APC was diminished as it entered terrain testing. Along roads, concrete and fields there was a max speed of 66 miles per hour, but when faced with boggy, sandy or extreme terrain the tank would often be slowed down to a painfully slow 10 miles per hour - despite it being able to travel semi-amphibiously. Rather than this be the front line assault, it was decided that a faster, lighter tank must be designed along side armored personnel carries to result in lightning fast attacks, such as the Blitzkrieg tactic.

 

Panzer-VII "Schumacher"

 

This light tank, designed to crush resistance and clear the way for the main assault, would be a fast moving monster. It's light caliber but heavily fortified arms would tear through buildings, and work in a revolutionary way. The lighter cannons allow for a revolver-esque reloading technique, allowing for semi-automatic fire from the main guns in two 6-round revolving clips. At the end of which, it would take only 12 seconds to reload and be ready to fire again. Other than that and 2 heavy caliber machine guns, the tank somewhat relies on 2 missile pods for long range engagement, with only 6 missiles in each. The vehicle is tired instead of tracked, allowing for faster speeds and smoother navigating of obstacles.

 

FTHR-II "Father" shock vehicle

 

The Father shock vehicle is a mix between a tank and a car. The one manned light, fast attack vehicle would speed into combat, deploy a small armed drone and speed of, leaving covering fire with a light cannon and two forward facing light machine guns, able to rotate on a 270 degree ball joint. The small drone would be controlled from a pilot at maximum distance of 3 miles away, and is armed with a light machine gun and infrared camera. To avoid it immediately getting destroyed by small arms fire, the "Father" featherweight tank would deploy smoke to give cover for the smaller tracked car. This enhancement is the first vehicle in a series of "reaver" classed, manned tanks. The FTHR has a top speed of 119 mph, with the drone maxing out at 31 mph.

 

 

 

MTHR-VII "Mother" armored personnel carrier

 

The "Mother" - a fast moving, wheel based, lightly armed but heavily armored personnel carrier capable of deploying troops at the front line. Armed only with a few light machine guns, the MTHR would focus on defense of the men inside rather than offence. With top speeds of 98 miles per hour, the vehicle is armor plated and roll caged in case of emergency, even with a solid multi-layered plating on under carriage to survive IEDs.

 

 

The French are assured that all members of METO would have equal rights of how the alliance should work, and whether it should just stick to defending Europe or expand it's goals. Germany's economy is close to booming, with all the new trading partners and the trade agreements back from the US. More money is spent on welfare, and many cities in the country see renovation, with skyscrapers finally meeting Berlin.

Operation Einheit

 

At 0400, mobilized German forces peacefully enter Austria, demanding no military repercussions or hostility will ensue. The countries - close since the 1800s - shared much cultural heritage, which was reminded to the Austrian population by Chancellor Hans Wulfgang in an immediate broadcast. A total of 30,000 troops beeline towards Austrian military bases, neutralizing them peacefully if possible... if not, the men were to be captured and not killed, if possible. Were any deaths to arise, the bodies were to be kept in refrigerated trucks until the acceptance of Austria's annexation. Another 50,000 surround Vienna, demanding surrender (but in nicer words) from the Austrian government by 1400. German fighter jets do laps over Vienna, and are put on standby to threaten the government. Austrian armed forces men are allowed to keep their jobs, but only if they swear fealty to Germany.

The United States of America:

 

As the American economy hits a boom, Americans cheer at the success of the new government administration. Thanks to technological innovations, America's dependence for oil decreases dramatically as solar panels and other clean-energy projects finally finish. President Henry Baker makes the decision to expand the Navy.

 

 

With the nine largest and the most technologically advanced aircraft carriers in the world, accompanied with over 70 Submarines, and 62 destroyers, America undoubtedly led the world in Naval power. However, as the Indonesians tested their new planes, America feared they would lose Air Superiority. Baker contacts the Indonesian government and promises American AI technology and extremely advanced scientists to aid in the project, plus a surplus of funds, if the Indonesians helped the United States develop similar drones. They would get access to American naval technology and a fully funded joint super-carrier construction project, in which the two largest and most advanced carriers would be made, one for the U.S, and one for Indonesia. When done, they would be able to holds hundreds of drone planes. Basic planning starts and a full outline, thanks to technological innovations, is finished. If and when the Indonesians accept the offer, construction would start. If they don't, only one would be constructed. The project is estimated to be 25 billion dollars.

 

 

Meanwhile, America re-expands its military. High schools are filled with recruiters idolizing military service, and schools like West Point are popularized and made one of the most desirable schools in he nations. Thanks to expansions, the job market widens, and drops tremendously, now at 4.2%. 50,000 U.S troops land in Puerto Rico (which is a U.S territory), to defend the land there, in case of a potential invasion. The USA does its best to cut off Cuba and Venezuela from all US affairs so that they wouldn't bother them so much.

Baker finally waves his hand, "This conference will be adjourned. However, I ask that Indonesia end its blockage of India. In exchange, India will stay out of Indonesian affairs. Is that an agreeable treaty? Over a billion people live in India. Starving them is not in humanity's interest.

Emeka Adeniji breathed a sigh of relief and leaned back in his chair, which protested loudly. Having formal recognition from the President of the United States himself... well, the possibilities of it were endless. Two superpowers had now acknowledged the legitimacy of a United Africa, and that went a long way on the political playing field. It was a bright light that shone through what had been a long and dark tunnel towards Africa's unification. The Nigerian's joyous thoughts were interrupted, however, when the new ally that he had found in President Sherman was forcibly removed from the negotiations. His immediate impulse was to stand up and hold off the bodyguards that had grabbed hold of the president; yet his mind took over. There would be no changing what had happened, he thought, as he lowered himself back into his seat. At least this wasn't his country, where the man would most likely have been shot on the spot.

 

The Nigerian general did not notice the new figure who had entered the room; he was busy conversing with one of his aides on what had just happened. His advisor left the room in the wake of Sherman's departure with orders to offer Emeka's condolences to the dethroned leader. Yet Emeka would have been hard-pressed to have looked over a figure as energetic as Vice President Baker. The man was a spitting image of what many of his people saw as a trademark American; he was to-the-point, confident, and willing to get his point across. He even had a southern drawl to cap it off. The hulking African looked over the new presence in the room with dull eyes, though underneath the façade he was wary. A change in leadership could mean everything; and, just like Sherman before him, Adeniji assumed that Baker was not a man to be underestimated.

 

Then the Frenchman, President De Guise, spoke up, his loud voice interrupting and carrying over the other conversations in the room. The slightest of frowns crossed over the United African leader's features. Words from a man who shouted over others to assert himself carried little weight with the Nigerian; Mother Nature had taught him that the beasts that brayed the loudest were always the prey, or those that posed little threat. When the words were translated to him, Emeka could not help but let out a deep and rumbling chuckle. An aircraft carrier and over 35 billion dollars, along with the recognition of a nation that was not his, who had not even bothered to attend the conference? It was absurd! Surely this one had been touched by the sun, he reasoned, to think that a nation that was known for its stubborn pride would accept such insane demands. This was the same greed that had plagued the European demons who had come to claim Africa all those years ago, he was sure of it.

 

Emeka then saw that the new American's next words were directed at him. He responded, his words slow and deliberate, before being relayed by his high-pitched and nervous translator.

"I am Emeka Adeniji. I am leader of the United African Army, though how I managed that, I am not certain. Thank you for hosting this conference, though I am sure you can forgive me if I do not know you. I don't have much time to watch television, you see. I hope we can ensure peace and prosperity for the nations assembled here. I also am eager to foster a close friendship between my people and your own."

In lieu of the storm of technological progress being made by the other nations, United Africa dedicates its efforts in further strengthening the economy, along with providing infrastructure for its people. Pipelines lance out from the cities and to the smaller villages as electricity and water are brought to the land. The reasoning for this is simple; the UAA has no pressing need to spend untold sums of wealth on weapon improvements, or technological advances. It will instead grow fat and powerful off of the models that are replaced, buying tanks, firearms, and aircraft for discounted prices, as other powers scramble to clean house and soften the blow that costly and extensive research would inevitably cause. It wouldn't be state of the art, but it would still be better than anything that the rest of the African continent had in its arsenal, and was far from outdated.

 

The UAA remains reserved in matters concerning the new rebel group that had sprung up to confront the Islamic Caliphate.

The United States of America (Reaction Post):

 

Baker smiled, "Ah yes. I have heard of you. After this conference we should discuss trade matters immediately. I believe Africa is very vital to the world, and I am glad to help your people lead it. Although, due to our new-found isolationist policies, I cannot offer military support. I can however send foreign aid and persuade your neighbors into joining your cause, as I'm sure they will. I really hope that Africa can become a stable place, and I know you're the kind of man that can bring it to greatness.
