Third Mexican Empire

The Emperor thanks the United States for the weapons and technology given to them. The Viper Shades and advanced American guns are distributed to the 'elite' units being trained in the Capital by the experienced U.S officers, the tanks and jets are however kept safely in a concealed rural millitary base with some reverse engineered to discover how they are constructed. Mexico cordially accepts the USA's offer to join the NAA, much to the jubilation of the Mexican citizens, immigration will be much easier now. Underground resistance to the Emperor's rule has stopped as the people believe him to be the man to usher a golden age within Mexico. Mexico subsequently lifts all tariffs on Canadian and American imported goods and with technology no longer an issue, Maximilian invests the money previously used for it on education. A series of educational reforms are made to encourage impoverished children to go to school such as making enrolling into primary school free and mandatory. Some administration reforms are made too with administration spending going up by a few million.

As for the Central American countries, Mexico divulges their plan to the U.S about their intention to invade, hence why all of their troops are stationed in the south. American help is accepted but not needed and with the presence of American troops to augment the Mexican army, the mobilisation is called off and the conscripts are sent home. As soon as the Americans reach the Chiapas District, the Mexican army of 350'000 would advance into Guatemalan territory with the goal of annexing all four countries (modpost needed).

Greater German Empire

 

With the successful seizing of Northern Turkey, Armenia and Georgia, the German people rejoice. They had been fed news of countless victories, how the Caliphate was falling, and how low casualties were for a war of this size. The Armenian and Georgian people celebrate for liberation, and are given autonomous rights. Though, in Turkey, families connected to any IC fighters are enslaved into forced labor camps on the Black Sea coast, building the new drydocks. Wulfgang orders for the construction of 8 destroyers, 6 corvettes and 10 landing craft ((5 pages)). Northern Turkey is declared a no-fly zone and accessible to authorized military personnel only - no journalists, tourists, film crews and civilians would be allowed in (or out). The Indochinese request to send officials to watch the fighting is denied, at least for the German section.

 

But whilst the liberated people rejoice and recover, the moral of the troops was slowly dwindling. Months after months of the same thing - get up, kill, sleep - had burned the brave men out to the point of near exhaustion. Wine, champagne, feasts and beer were imported in to the various camps around the Armenian and Georgian province, as almost a medieval tribute to glory. However, it worked, and it was announced that the 42 camps erected in the newly captured lands would be the home of the German First Army for some time, as forward (and reserve) frontline bases. The army was going to soon have to fight their toughest enemy yet - Iran.

 

No further advancements into enemy territory are commissioned, and a strong line of defense is set up.

République Français

 

The French Army rejoices as Egyptian men turn their guns on the Caliphate and push back against them, President de Guise immediately recognizes the Egyptian President as Caliph of the Islamic Caliphate. President Kosef is offered an alliance and promised that Cairo would be the center of a modern, economically superior Kosef Caliphate where moderate Islam and strength were key factors. 

 

French forces push through the rest of Egypt and the GIGN moves in to help the Egyptian government suppress dissidents who would wish to rejoin the Radical Caliphate. Money also pours into Egypt in order to help prop up the new pro-Western government, however weapons are not yet fully supplied to the Egyptian army. 

 

With that finished, the French First Legion, now a mere 115,00 men, establish a massive military camp on the western side of the Suez Canal. French naval vessels begin to approach the Canal to help secure the area as they cross into the Sinai. However, the French President demands that the army get at least one months a rest to rearm and recover. They had taken over 75,000 casualties fighting from Algeria all the way to the Suez and now the French were preparing to enter Asia proper. 

 

The Kingdom of Illyria and Dardania is officially recognized and their offers are accepted. The French government promotes the independence of the state and encourages all METO nations to do the same.

 

The Indochinese are firmly refused and told that their officers would not be allowed near a single METO squadron. This would be final. 

 

CNES begins the construction of a spaceport in Morocco that will be key to the establishment of a French presence in space. There is a second wing of the facility which is entirely closed off to the public and other METO nations simply dubbed "Louis."

The Oceanic Imperium

It had been like this for days. The badai troopers on the Musandam peninsula were more than capable of handling what the Caliphate was sending at them: each time the Islamic forces approached, they had been repulsed easily, no matter how much had been committed to the assault. Still, they were persistent, and at any time the caliph could decide that he wanted to commit to a full-scale assault.

 

The importance of not allowing this to happen was paramount: the landings had been a success farther down the gulf, but now there were half a million imperial troops swarming over an area that only stretched from the southern edge of Kuwait to the Iranian Bay. They needed supplies, and currently all of these were being transported through the strait of Hormuz. The line was too precarious, liable to be broken any time real effort was put into it. And so, 50,000 troops are detached from the main force and begin to travel south, securing a corridor on the northern coast of Saudi Arabia. The first resistance is encountered as the force approaches Qatar, as defenses around Riyadh join with Qatar's own local forces. They are relatively weak, however, as most of the Caliphate's forces are elsewhere.

 

Back in the occupied zone, the imperial army prepares for the next assault outward. The navy begins to widely bombard Iran, missiles and drone strikes mostly targeting military targets in an effort to soften up the country.

 

In China, the campaign is picking up momentum as the army can now commit to further airstrikes and supply drops as a result of reclaiming abandoned Chinese airbases. When Xinjiang province is finally completely reclaimed, the army mostly continues northwest, working into Kazakhstan. A detachment of 30,000 men instead moves on Mongolia, where any remaining Islamic forces would be cut off and weakened.

 

The recent blunt refusals by METO of requests from both the semi-autonomous state of Indochina and, more importantly, the imperial government, greatly disturb the foreign ministry. Europe had been counted on for a long time as a stalwart ally, but with recent events...perhaps the westerners had other plans. The imperium remains as friendly as ever, but any departments that could be affected by a breakdown in diplomacy are informed to remain on guard: anyone could be a threat now. Of course, there would be no point saying this to the general population, as official propaganda paints the rest of the world as a mob of barbarians, scrounging around for scraps in Oceania's shadow.

 

As such, the Imperium merges Indochina's space program with its own, maintaining the current Indochinese leadership. Any excess funds left over from the massive reconstruction effort and the cost of maintaining the military are diverted to this research. What exactly it is that the emperor wants in the future is secretly conveyed to the project managers.

 

The government's grip over China further solidifies, and emigration becomes harder and harder. Increased surveillance over the general population and the erosion of constitutional rights in the Imperium means that to stage an uprising also becomes a harder task to organize. Foreign spies will soon find it almost impossible to infiltrate the government.

 

Singapore more than doubles in size as millions of displaced Indonesians are moved into the city. The same occurs in other unharmed cities, such as Hong Kong, which is a major node of Imperial power in the north by now. Across the empire, infrastructure begins to take shape, with high speed rail set to be the new main mode of transport, with roads supporting. In places, these railways tunnel underground, especially in the shallow seas between the Indonesian islands.

 

The many cities which have been made uninhabitable due to nuclear fallout are set to take on new purpose, as ruins are cleared away to make room for vast industrial parks. The plan is to use drone labor in these area to prevent unnecessary worker deaths. Imperial officials begin to survey the exact zones that are contaminated to determine how close settlements may be allowed. When the survey is complete, these areas will be quarantined to allow as much of the rest of the country to be utilized as possible.

 

 

In the Indonesian islands, the first modern geothermic power plants begin construction.

The Kingdom of Illyria and Dardania

King Ahmet Zog stood on his balcony, enjoying a sip of tea as his manservant cleaned up the remnants of the brunch he had with the Prime Minister a couple of minutes before. He eyed the black Mercedes Benz slowly sliding out out of the estate and into the streets, now devoid of cars. King Zog III did not fear his own people; the Albanian people loved their king. The only thing he feared was that countries may not heed the METO membership of the Kingdom and attack. Nonetheless, the Prime Minister was doing a great job leading his country for him, and now with 4 billion dollars gifted to them as if it were nothing by the Americans, everything had just become much easier. It had cost Albania 1.4 billion dollars during the days of the Republic to make a fully functioning, modern road system still in use to this day. It would cost 1 billion to make such a system in Kosovo, and then the rest could be used on industry. 

 

The King smiled, his old-fashioned Hapsburg styled mustache curling with his lips, as he spoke to his trusted butler. "Rexhep, one man's trash is another treasure indeed! The Americans have done this country a great service, as if it were nothing! Kosovo may now have a totally functioning road and tunnel system, and industry will greatly improve with the rest of the money not spent! We could move around our land thrice as fast, and twice as efficiently! This is a good day indeed!"

The manservant nodded, as he picked up the remaining plates, and hurried inside. A fleet of Shenyang j-6 jets whirred by in the distance, about 200 of them. They are outdated thought the King but they serve their purpose. No doubt an F-16. . .speaking of which. . .could easily wreck havoc upon them. Four F-16 passed by overhead, surpassing the cold war Shenyangs in speed and overall maneuverability. They flew in a spearhead formation, leaving a trail of white smoke behind. The Air Force was lacking, at the least. The Shenyang j-6s were of plentiful quality, thanks to the Communist Regime. The only purpose they served was for possible expansion into the undeveloped countries around the Kingdom, but they would never last war. The Shenyang j-16s, on the other hand, those were good craft. Chinese made; cheap but effective, and not to mention the fact that the government had acquired blueprints a while ago. That is where the j-6s were flying to. They were outdated, but their parts could be recycled. Meanwhile, the dozen F-16s the Kingdom possessed would be mobilized to patrol its borders. 

The King looked down upon the streets, a military guard passing by in full uniform. Tirana, the capital, had changed a lot since the days of the Republic. Its streets dazzled with newly installed lamps, and its surface was an orderly area from which 30 to 50 story buildings (About 30 of them) stuck out into the sky, mountains of concrete and steel looking down upon the busy streets below. The city was something to be proud of, but that was it. No other city in the Kingdom looked like this (with the exception of Prishtina, the second capital, that was still extremely outdated). The King almost felt sad seeing military vehicles and a curfew limiting the city's night life to an extent that it almost appeared abandoned.

The King finally turned around, standing up from his chair, and walked into his private balcony overseeing the Parliament room. The politicians inside were bickering among each other on how to continue the current course the Kingdom of Illyria and Dardania was on. It does not matter thought the King we already have it planned out.

Russia (Short Post)

During this time of peace, Russia continued working to easy the tensions within the Slavic Union. The opening of the Black Sea brings in trade from the Mediterranean that Russia had not seen in some time.

Technology advancements are worked on specifically aiming at better and more efficient tanks. Russia would try to keep it's infantry and ground troups at number 1 in the world. Training and other drills occur as Russia keeps a keen eye on it's borders.

Canada

 

The trading partner offer from Indochina is accepted. Immediately, plans are made buy Indochinese natural resources, especially industrial resources such as Coal and Oil among many other things as Canada offers money & canned food, to be imported into Indochina with the label 'made in Canada'. Indochinese and Canadian officials in Ottawa meet later that week to discuss the plans in full detail, with Governor Pierce himself shaking the hand of the Indochinese official.

 

 

 

 

After the successful armament of the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps with modern American weapons & equipment, propaganda throughout Union Canada - in a nation not too liking of the military, much rather choosing to work hard and smart - touching on the key points of a nation without an army is a nation without walls in this world; we must protect ourselves. Dig to victory! Dig to victory! This manages to draw in more recruits which should number in the hundreds from all provinces within the year, bolstering numbers existing in Battalions in the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps (1 page).

 

 

With that slogan, efforts into increasing national security and defense is increased as research goes into better fortifications along the coast and headquarters in the West and the East. Spies throughout the nation are hunted for by the CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) and deported back to their nations as to not cause extra tension. This entire operation should be executed within the next two years to excellent effect (2 pages).

 

 

With the conflict in Central America in order to consolidate relations with Mexico, Governor Pierce fits an expeditionary force of 800 troops to be under Mexican command, named the 2nd Canadian Expeditionary Task Force. The schematics for the force are as followed;

Governor Pierce offers this under the terms - either in his want to be His Majesty's loyal servant or another attempt at his earlier schemes - that he be appointed as the new Governor General, to which the position of Prime Minister will be also re-instated with an election to immediately follow throughout the next year. If declined, Governor Pierce will still follow through with the offer, and an election will still be had - as he will be running under his newly formed New Socialist Party of Canada.

With victory over the Caliphate growing ever closer, another contingent of SUNS forces is mobilised and begins sailing towards Cyprus, composed as follows:

Meanwhile, the Union fleet already located near Israel prepares to provide naval support for a British landing. It continues to batter down coastal defenses in the meantime.

An Adaptive All-Terrain Tyre begins development for the Panzer VII and any other wheeled vehicles in the METO. This specially made tyre would sense the nature of the terrain and change shape and grip depending. ((1 page))

The tanks are also constructed instead with the electric engines.

Speaking of which, the military and civilian land vehicles are now all electrically-run. This cuts down fossil fuel consumption and carbon footprint dramatically.

The United People's Coalition

 

 

As the war drags on the UPC's protest become more common and much more out-spoken. The UPC's leader and coordinator Nicolas Burkhalter made a speech personally at his protest in Berlin

 

"Germany is falling! Do not mistake my words my fellow Brothers and Sisters, But Germany is falling once again! The horrors and atrocities being committed abroad are not to be ignored. People are being slaughtered, being forced into labor camps. And For What? Defending their own countries!? Is there no Honour left in Germany? In its Leaders? While these atrocities are not to be overlooked I understand that the government is doing what it believes is best for the Fatherland, but we are not the Monsters that were portrayed in the horrid stories of WWII, back when the Reich had once again rised out of a depression. Only to slaughter and ENSLAVE those of the other nearby countries! WE MUST OPPOSE THESE SUCH ACTIONS!"

 

The UPC sends letters to those in power of the Government demanding the release and proper treatment of the Prisoners of War from the Slavic Countries and those being imposed by the German Rule.

 

The UPC also works hard to spread the word of the Force Labor Camps on the coasts of the Black Sea.

The United Kingdom

Operation Desert Citadel

Under the cover of the constant barrage of artillery and bombs from the Eurofighters. The landing force moved toward the coast of Israel, toward the city of Tel-Aviv, a huge economic center, near the city of Jerusalem. As the landing force of 50,000 troops moved in through the middle, a force of about 50,000 moved in on the right flank to meet the middle group at the center of the city. On the left flank, the 5th Royal Tank Division acompanied by the SUNS forces pushed through the bombarded and broken city killing all resistance that stood in their way. All in an attempt to gain another foothold in the Middle-East.

With the excess oil, received from the oil fields in Turkey, PM Wilson decides it's best to sell it to increase revenue.

New types of anti-naval missiles are beginning to be invested in, this plan would be extend to all METO NATIONS AND SWEDEN to help assist with the project, this would help even out some of the tide to those super navies. (4 pages for the beginning part of research.)

The Socialist Union of Nordic States

The newly arrived forces rest for a day at Cyprus, then immediately move to join the other SUNS and British forces now assaulting Tel Aviv, making the SUNS force there as follows:

The men assault from the Frigates, who's anti-air weapons ensure they can't be bombed by planes or missiles, while the rest of the fleet continue bombarding the IC defenses.

At home, the advanced GMO is finally successfully created in a lab. They and their products are thoroughly tested for human safety before production and distribution. ((2 pages)) The technology is shared with ALL METO MEMBERS. With this technology, food shortage will be a virtual impossibility in the METO.

The recruitment and construction for the military expansion also finishes. For now, the new forces remain at home and continue training. The AATTs are completed and sent to METO members for their own wheeled vehicles.

The plans and research for the Supercruiser, which will be named the NUS Stumraps, near completion, and soon it will go into construction.

¨The Greater Argentine Federation

With the annexation of the neighbouring states of Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia, Presidente Peròn officially declares the foundation of the Greater Argentine Federation. The Federation is based on the American system, granting reasonable autonomy and the right for each province to decide and enforce their own laws (the provinces will be the annexed countries). The capital and primary province will obviously still be Argentina and Buenos Aires, yet the new government form makes the nation seem less tyrannical and grants more freedom to its people, increasing over-all stability and happiness. 

 

-MOD NEEDED-

 

An offer is sent to the nations of Peru and Ecuador, offering both the opportunity to join the Federation with the same rights as the other provinces/states and without the waste of either side's military lives. To emphasize the consequences of a blunt refusal, a sudden flow of military excercises and troop movement in the Argentine-Peruvian border, including a parade featuring the 100 new TAM II tanks fresh out of factories and still being produced and an air show featuring the Sol-1 equipped squadrons of Argentina, aircraft now numbering around 250.

 

 

It is decided that the country should focus its economic resources internally for a while to stabilize the Federation, yet Presidente Peròn personally orders a last research project for now, wishing for the Argentine Air Force to be the spearhead of the Army and commissioning the Sol-2a and Sol-2b. The Sol-2a will be equipped with special anti-drone armaments, smaller missiles targeting more agile aircraft and being fired in larger numbers yet still capable of taking down the more fragile drone armadas of foreign powers. A new engine and wing design is also put in place, allowing higher speed and acceleration when the wings are bent a certain way yet also using hydraulics to extend them and allow for faster turn and roll-rates.

The Sol-2b will instead be a ground-attack aircraft, using wider and specially-shaped wings to allow for further space for heavier armaments and more firepower. The wide wings also stop the plane from reaching too extreme speeds, the slower pace being more advantageous for the targeting and elimination of slow-moving or stationary vehicles and various other targets. Other features include a special pilot's helmet and visors allowing for higher-accuracy marking and target-detection and thus more precise strikes. 

This project will however be rather expensive and will drain the military funds of the nation for the period of research and testing ((5 pages each, the Sol-2a first and then the 2b)).

General Supreme Qamil Stafa looked on as soldiers went about their daily training. The training program was a harsh one, sacrificing numbers for single troop effectiveness. Troops underwent a strenuous 4 month training program, and then another 2 month specialization program. In a year's time, 20,000 soldiers modeled after the old Turkish model are raised from simple village boys to fighting machines. Infantry for the most part, with a couple of specialists in between, these men were skilled in many aspects. They are first physically conditioned, made to run for hours on end and swim. They spend hours at the gym per day, and are fed plentifully in protein and nutrients. The conditioning of the body is probably the most stressed aspect in the program, taking up to 2 months of intense physical conditioning, and normal exercise every day from there on. Second comes the proficiency with weapons, mostly the AK-103 rifle of the kalashnikov series and explosives of many kinds. Battle strategy is taught regularly, about thrice per week, and Albanian history is crammed into the soldier's minds, using poetic retelling of past events and other propaganda to build up a sense of nationalism in the soldiers. Ideals such as "never let the Albanian flag fall on the floor" and improvised rituals such as choosing a historical Albanian symbol to always wear with you and having it blessed by a Baba for good luck greatly effect the soldier's morale for the positive.

 

The last two months are the period in time in which this built up loyalty and effectiveness is tested, as Soldiers are put into harsh, real survival situations and battle simulations. It is a slow, money consuming process, but it manages to spit out 10,000 dedicated soldiers per year. The issue is, it is costing too much money; the only reason the program continues is because of America's help with the 4 billion dollars it donated, allowing the Kingdom to focus already accumulated state funds into the Soldier's training. Nontheless, the program is ideal for the planned assault to the Islamic Caliphate. The only way to fight radicals, after all, is with more radical radicals. 

The General Supreme looked on upon two soldiers who crawled among a muddy part in the ground, keeping their heads down, as other soldiers shot their rifles above their heads, aiming for targets on the other side of the mud field. This trained both types of soldiers: the shooters and the crawlers. It gave the crawlers the feel of what battle is like, and it let the shooters get some good target practice. The General stirred, as he looked at the commander standing at his side "Firing rubber bullets over their heads, while giving the shooters target practice. I must say, when it comes to efficiency, the National Brigade never fails to satisfy." The Commander smiles "They are not rubber bullets General. . ."

The General eyed the commander, and looked on, as he saw the first batch of soldiers trained over the last few years marching out of the camp. A platoon of 5000 soldiers, side by side, marching to report to the Military Port of Vlora for immediate shipping abroad, or to be distributed among the Kingdom's cities as National Guard. This small regiment was but a 4th of the entire recruited army. 20,000 stalwart soldiers marching straight from the end of their training to await placement in combat. The General smiled; the plan was going along swimmingly.

Meanwhile, beside the prominent Kingdom of Illyria and Dardania flag flying on the staffs of most cities, a new flag rose up beside them, that of the Illyrian Local Brigade. The soldiers sent out before had garrisoned themselves as instructed in each major city along Albania and Kosovo building barricades, temporary fortifications, and machine gun/anti-aircraft weapon nests along the cities. Curfew was enforced in these cities as well, and the conscription is thus more heavily enforced. 

Soldiers and military vehicles patrol the streets, tanks lying dormant, ready to spring into action at any time in the rural areas. Compacted dirt landing strips are made, allowing for patrol planes such as F-16s to land in various places. The country is on its toes, fully defended, ready for any potential attacks. Dedicated garrisons linked together by a web of well made roads allow the country to be especially efficient in its own defense.

The Oceanic Imperium

Lay down your arms now, and your people will be welcomed under the Emperor's protection and treated as brothers. This is your last chance, for under us they will find the higher purpose that they crave. Refuse, and there is no future for you or your country."

 

The Caliphate's prospects on the eastern front were looking bleaker every day. A constant, though still relatively thin, supply line had finally been established from China, and now the Imperium was driving across the steppes, running down jihadis as they pressed across the flat expanse of Kazakhstan. Several small detachments break off the main force and begin to move south into the very heart of Asia. The trek through mountains and desert to the center of the Caliphate has begun.

 

In Mongolia, the remaining Islamic forces have few places to hide in the broad grassy expanse of the steppes, and so they fight. With hit and run attacks and night raids, they slowly inflict losses on the imperial troops, but soon begin to take losses in return as the invaders counterattack. When the first imperial bureaucrats arrive from the south to establish rule over the region, there is little the Muslims can do about it, as their grip on the country slips away.

 

As the imperial detachment from Kuwait pushes into the UAE on the way to the tip of the Arabian peninsula, an operation is undertaken to reduce the threat from the south. 24,000 badai troopers remained unassigned in the region, and here is where they would be needed. In a night attack, the elite troops land on the peninsula of Qatar, and eliminate all military forces in the country by sunrise, having simultaneously landed at different parts of the country. Then crossing over the Oceanic-occupied strip of land cleared by the normal army, they begin to make their way west through the town of Al-Hofuf, on their way to Riyadh. A mob of badly-trained, badly-equipped jihadis was all that stood in front of them, and there would be no contest. The emperor's finest would do their job flawlessly, as always.

 

Finally, the forces swarming over Kuwait begin their assault. An additional 100 antipersonnel tanks had been shipped to the area, along with 10 kiamat tanks, the huge, nigh indestructible behemoths that had been able to smash through so many Chinese lines. A common joke in the army was that the only thing ever to have destroyed one was a nuclear missile. And there were no rivers to slow them down here...

 

350,000 men storm the border with Iran, supported by these 10 monstrosities along with 250 Tsunami tanks and 120 antipersonnel tanks. For months, any military structure in the country within 400 miles of the coast had been subjected to intense missile bombardment coupled with even more deadly drone strikes. The Caliphate's air force was unable to fight back, as it was both outmatched by the Overlord drones and vulnerable to Hammerhead missile fire. As such, any Islamic forces that could be spotted were subjected to cluster bombing, a horrific method that destroyed anything and everything under the drones.

 

Thus, the Imperium moves forward practically unhindered, its armor alone enough to annihilate the beleaguered soldiers of the Caliph, its soldiers more disciplined and efficient than any who answer to the Caliphate. The Tehran-Saveh freeway is the corridor for the main advance, while detachments move to mop up what remains of the enemy south of the Zagros Mountains.

 

100,000 men stay behind in Kuwait, with 50 antipersonnel tanks. Mostly dug in to protect the flank against other hostiles, they also begin to cautiously expand their zone of control, advancing as far as Basrah in Iraq, and sending forces south to further secure the northern coast of Saudi Arabia, bringing the island of Bahrain under Oceanic control with the help of naval bombardment. The town of Hafar Al Batin becomes the westernmost point of imperial control.

Domestically, reconstruction proceeds on schedule. With the promise on the horizon of vast amounts of geothermal energy, entirely new possibilities have opened up. The original idea to move some of the Imperium's farms underground becomes a complete re-imagining of the way food is produced, and the project is scaled up massively. Vast underground chambers are hollowed out, as earthquake-resistant as possible. Engineered for maximum efficiency, they will eventually provide food in a way never before seen.

 

The survey of the most radioactive areas of the empire is soon completed, and these areas, which are being put to new purpose, staffed by drones, are fenced off.

 

The largest number of these is in northeast China, in the area from Beijing south to Shanghai. In Indonesia, the island of Java, formerly home to Jakarta, is found to be completely uninhabitable and is set off limits entirely. In the areas near but not inside the restricted zone, widespread decontamination efforts begin to try to limit the effects of radioactive dust. New ports are established in the northeast region of China, between the destroyed cities. These exist only for the exchange of goods at first, as it's difficult to make a living here. As time goes on, however, they grow into cities in their own right. With names like New Shanghai and New Qingdao, they reflect the will of the people to persevere.
