[A few packs of ghouls exit Devirad in the evening and set to work across Axios, they tread peacefully leaving notices in the communities where they aren’t accosted of the Gravelord Covenants’ most recent development]

In recent years it has been the fault of the responsible that violent men and women were placed in positions unbecoming of their cruelty and directed the use of the mortal art of necromancy toward the destruction of unity and order. These past transgressions have spurred an evaluation of character and policy within the covenant and have led us to believe that the way forward for the mortal arts is to establish a healthy and positive relationship with the public at large to better mend the wounds drawn in the past. To this end we are prepared to take on applicants into our ranks as pledges to the covenant, to ensure that the art of life weaving is used to benefit mortal kind as intended pledges will undergo a rigorous training and trialing process to serve the purpose of dissuading the overly ambitious or violent from joining our ranks and abusing the privileges provided for the purposes of furthering their own interests.

We call to the descendants of Axios to join us in bettering the mortal condition through use of Necromancy, from doctors, to diplomats, inventors, and mages. While any might apply to be considered only those deemed worthy through interview and evaluation will progress through their trials. All one must do to begin is write a letter with their name attached including an explanation in their own words on what they believe life to be as well as their motivations in seeking the mortal arts.

While not all applicants will find success in pursuing instruction we encourage any and all who retain reservations about the nature of necromancy to reconsider and seek Its practitioners for further investigation. We eagerly await your participation.

Ellis pens a letter to these mysterious ghouls.

"The meaning of life is opportunity. It is the variable of chance in this life of cold, unfeeling absolutes. Thus, anything is possible while you still draw breath. That is life; your own definition, your own will, and your own purpose. It is nothing but your own idealization, and your will to act on it.

I know little of your arts. This much is true. However, should it hold merit as a device to help others, as something to benefit more than myself: I implore you to teach me. You will seldom find another more diligent apprentice than I. My name is Ellis, and I lodge in the Adelburg 'Hanging Keg' left off the main avenue."

His carrier pidgeon has a return scroll attached.

[!] A note finds its way to the sender, the courier slipping it into his mailbox as he shuffles away to deliver other letters.

"To whom it may concern,

My name is Richard Baruch, an aspiring mage for both arcane and dark arts. I have received news by your dispatched party of Devirdans that your kingdom is accepting abled students into necromancy. I send this to answer your questions in hopes you deem me responsible in your inquiry.

What is life?: To me, life comes from our potential to use our small time gifted to us by the creator to do significant things. To discover, to experience, to start a family, and much more. Life is more than an organism that executes its day-to-day routine to survive, but is an individual who contributes and grows in his or her time existing. Simply put, life is flourishing purpose.

What is my motivation for seeking mortal arts?: To gain internal mastery of the abilities beheld within each mortal so I can play a role in mankind’s quest to flourish.

I hope you’re accepting of my goals. If not, I wish you well in your search for dedicants.

                                                                                                                     -Richard Baruch"
