CROSSBOW

INTRODUCTION
Many veterans remember those dire moments from the War of Two Emperors... Those archer volleys blotting out the sun and leading their compatriots, almost arbitrarily, to their demise. Those left behind had learned their lesson: that equal firepower is no longer tolerable. The families left behind, no longer acceptable. It is with this mandate that the brightest minds of Salvus came together, to design such a system as to allow their clients to equip each and every one of their archers with a crossbow; an ancient yet altogether quite rare weapon. Never again would their fates rest on the biceps of Daels raised to fire from birth, but rather Everyman could be a deadly shooter...

Don't be fooled by its strange appearance, this Salvian crossbow is a crossbow like any other.

The crossbow, also commonly known as a "firearm" (for the repetitive motion of loading leaves the arm feeling so) or "gun" (from the acronym G.U.N., Granted Unless Negligent, used on Haeseni crossbow licences to indicate the user's rights may be revoked should they disregard firearm etiquette), is an ancient weapon commonly used by soldiers and highwaymen alike. While their function has not fundamentally changed since Aegis, their appearance often has, with the modern crossbow (typically imported from Atheran Salvus, currently the producer of 90% of the world's crossbows) being a rather strange device altogether, perhaps designed in such a way as to confuse the other party and leave them unsure as to how ready the user's weapon is.

Other important crossbow terms:

  • GUNPOWDER: powdering became such a fad in the Imperial Era that often even crossbow bolts were powdered, a practice which still finds some currency to this day. While this generally has no effect, powdering with reused wig powder may greatly increase the chance the victim catches syphilis.
  • BULLETS: refers to the crossbow bolts themselves. It's believed to be a misunderstanding arising from Orcs yelling "BULL IDZ" ("pull it") which actually referred to cocking the crossbow, i.e. pulling the latch.

GENERAL GUIDELINES
Same as with non-Salvian crossbows right now.

RED-LINES
Same as now.
