[Amendment] Kill Translocation

Recommended Posts

Remove the cheese (embrace the trap)

New (General Translocation Redlines):

Red-lines:

- Cannot Expatriate living organic matter in the void for storage/half rifts. Living organic matter may be teleported through the void (Shifting).

- Magic cannot be translocated.

- Cannot Shift more than 4 people. Including the caster.

- Cannot translocate combative potions.

- You may utilize any Voidal Shifting spell in tandem with swinging weaponry without disrupting connection in the same emote.

- So long as Line of Sight is maintained (if necessary), teleportation of someone casting a spell does not interrupt that cast.

- Voidal Shifting may be performed immediately on the emote which the spell is ready to cast, as a means to evade oncoming attack.

- Expatriation does not carry velocity. Half-Translocation is an exception to this.

- Translocation requires line of sight.

- An item must be fully understood in order to be Expatriated. Half-Expatriation is an exception to this.

- People may not be trapped in the void with Expatriation.

- A proper tell is required for any spell. Simply emoting 'Shuddering' is not acceptable.

- If you move to a point where your anchor is beyond your placement range, the anchor dissipates and the spell fails.

-The range of any and all translocation spells cannot be increased beyond the limits listed in the lore by Arcane Foci. The only exception is when lore explicitly permits this, such as Arcane Scions which allow them to use foci to increase the maximum range of their spells.

doubling the distance costs an extra shift as per current lore

As a dude whos fought against a ton of magi as a regular dude in 1v1s,
it is NOT fun to go against with translo's current state, and I firmly believe this would make it better for both the magic & opposing persons going against the magic.
as per sam's words, it is quite literally cheesing your opponents as ranged attacks are not guaranteed (especially with minor brisk steps) to catch them, and if comboed with air shield its pretty much a hard W no matter what.
Then again, it might just be a skill issue on my end & grants me bias against this, but at the end of the day moving 32 blocks in 2-3 emotes is insane lmfao

TLDR: unfun win button feature, +1ing this nerf

it takes 4 emotes instead of 3 to do this, you get outpaced by a horse if you cant do the arcane focus cheese

lets play out a scenario, with arcane focus and without

with arcane focus:

>bandit pulls up to you on a horse, you aren't on a horse. bandit says 'mina or die'

>you connect

>bandit swings at you
>brisk step, 24 blocks away

>bandit closes distance, 12 blocks
>move 4 blocks, set anchor

>bandit closes distance, 12 blocks (now 4 blocks away)

>minor teleport, 32 blocks, now 36 blocks away

>bandit closes distance, 12 blocks (now 24 blocks away)

>brisk step, 24 blocks (now 48 blocks away, thats edge of shout range)

without arcane focus:

>bandit pulls up to you on a horse, you aren't on a horse. bandit says 'mina or die'

>you connect

>bandit swings at you

>brisk step, 12 blocks away

>bandit closes distance, 12 blocks (0 blocks away)

>move 4 blocks, set anchor

>bandit moves between you and anchor, swings weapon

>forced to brisk step, 12 blocks

>repeat sequence till out of mana

OR if bandit doesn't block minor TP correctly

>bandit closes distance, 12 blocks (0 blocks away)

>move 4 blocks, set anchor

>bandit swings at you

>minor tp, 16 blocks

>bandit closes distance, (4 blocks away)

>brisk step, 12 blocks (16 blocks away)

>bandit closes distance (4 blocks away)

>move 4 blocks, set anchor (8 blocks away)

>bandit can swing or block anchor, repeat sequence, mage will run out of mana

I have a clarification question - Scions are limited to 6m spells. With this amendment, would a brisk step with a focus look like this?

6m base > focus doubles to 12m > subtract 4m as T3 brisk step has an 8m range. Final range is 8m.

(Basically, can a focus be used to get up to the range listed in lore, if the spell would normally have a shorter range than the one in lore?)
