Decision On Nation Mines

It's possible I'm wrong, but wasn't there ruling in place preventing people from raiding and camping the public mines?

No there isn't? I may be wrong, but if there are they aren't being followed.

Humans camp it either way, if anything you guys get the long end of the stick with that public mine, I don't ever recall seeing any dwarves or orcs in there.

Nay. If people wish to take a group of players and RPly occupy the mine, using force to hold it, that is RP and is perfectly fine. What we don't want to happen is someone just saying "Oh ya the mine is ours, so gtfo" without actual players to enforce it and perhaps having signs that say "A guard is standing here" or something similar. If the mines are to be occupied they must be done so with substance and actual players. Of course, that also means that another party can take the mine from the occupiers, and either choose to occupy it themselves or make it public once more.

As for the issue of a group occupying the Nation mines themselves, I said in the OP that they'd be blocked off and only those given permission could access them mechanically. This means that a group from another Nation could not even get into the mine, much less into the Nation itself.

Well then, seems I was horribly misinformed about the public mines...

I'm glad to hear it, removes most of my qualms about the nation mines.

I would just like to say, Humans have a ton of iron. Why need more? You guys have enough to give your entire army weapons and armor, maybe even double the size. I just don't see why.

Why use coal when you they can just make charcoal out of the huge forests they have? As it stands Dwarves have the most valuable ores and the means to smelt it all at home. They hardly need to import much of anything.

In the new update, you can combine 9 coal pieces into a block of coal.  While this block of coal can be used for a nifty decoration, a single coal block can smelt 80 items while 9 pieces of coal will smelt only 72.  Therefore coal (when compressed into a coal block) is more efficient.   Also blocks of coal are more convenient to store than coal or charcoal by itself.  Due note that you CAN'T use charcoal to make coal blocks.

Still I must conceded, in overall practicality charcoal is is preferred as it is easily obtained by wood blocks which easily grow from trees.  For coal to be viable, I would have to recommend not only charcoal's use as a fuel nerfed but also wood products (stick, planks, wood block, wood stairs, ect) be nerfed as well.  Basically, all charcoal and wood products smelting capability be halved.  This way, one charcoal can smelt 4 items instead of 8, one wood block will smelt 0.75 items instead of 1.50, four planks will smelt 3 items instead of 6, eight wooden slabs smelt 3 items instead of 6, and eight sticks will smelt 2 items instead of 4.  This nerf will make coal a more desirable resource but charcoal still be of some importance thanks to its availability and ease of creating.  Without such a nerf, no one would bother to mine coal unless they happen to come some in an iron mine.

Lastly, I noticed that glowstone was NOT listed on the nation mine.  Since glowstone is a is the main material used in glowstone blocks and glowstone lamps (both aesthetically pleasing light sources), as well as being an enhancer for potions in vanilla MC and being a useful prop item for RP, I suggest that a glowstone mine also be added.  Seeing that the elves have only coal and emeralds (both of which are consider "mostly useless" by the community as of now), I suggest that the elves have a nation glowstone mine.  It can be another unique material found only in elven lands and brings the number of minerals found in the Elvish lands up to 3 like the other "core" races.  Of course there may be other plans with glowstone that I am currently unaware of but nevertheless I think it should be something that the administration should consider.

I think the problem is the feeling that this is a means to end the dwarf-human conflict through OOC decisions to hopefully force trade and a peace deal between the nations by giving the enemy of big bad Oren some iron and gold.

I don't quite understand why humans get a huge mine, none of the are miners, but I really don't mind, and I'm not complaining, it's just out of lore. But it's perfect for the war! It's a shame the humans aren't making their war claim, meaning no war...

Please remember that the dwarves are completely out numbered oocly, it would make the war balanced to give us something to actually prepare ourselves with.

Just going to bring something to the table - remember that we'll have new armour and weapon types eventually, so all these ores and materials deemed useless may eventually be highly sought after. Just sayin'.

All of the lighting in Malinor is already made from glowstone, so the 'builders' had to have gotten it from somewhere. Perhaps some caves with stalagtite-esque glowstone formations.

I think that those things are RPed as lanterns, though I'm not sure.

Keep in mind that with the 1.6 update, coal can be made into coal blocks using nine coal. Charcoal cannot. One block of coal smelts 80 items, nine coal or charcoal smelts 72 items. So for businesses that mass produce, coal is going to be worth more and there will be an incentive to buy it. It's also a pain lumberjacking for charcoal when you can just trade in bulk for coal with someone that has stable access to a mine.

Clay is going to be really useful for a large majority of the server. I think it's the underdog here. You're going to have hardened clay and stained clay that will be in high demand to replace a lot of the ugly wool used in housing, throughout Anthos. Flower pots as well. A lot of people are going to want to trade for it, especially if you possess the only mine that has it.

What the humans may lack in iron, they make up for in numbers. You've got enough people and enough resources to figure out a way to get your hands on some iron, not to mention you still have access to the public mine. Some of your warriors will actually have to wear leather armor now and scrape up chainmail pieces and iron armor sets will be reserved for wealthy men of means. What a drag.

Overall, its looking good. Ever since I rolled Halfling I just laugh when players place such high value on iron and gold. Buckets and belt buckles.

Just out of curiosity, since the orcs currently have no nation -- and therefore, no nation leader -- Who will make the decisions required of that position? I'm guessing the leader of the strongest clan?

There better be armor that can be made from Emeralds, Clay ,or Redstone, or humans are going to have a serious problem.

I really wanted that bloody quartz mine.
