  1. The ST run the server, not the Mods.
  2. “Good riddance,” Thalrian uttered from whatever dark corner he occupied, unable to forget the years of conflict shared with this demon in particular.
  3. What are the thoughts of an RP-Combat style less oriented on exact descriptions of each motion and more general descriptions of intent? I’ll elaborate – Currently on lotc, a set of RP combat emotes might run something like this:

Player 1 | Jason sends himself quickly jerking forward, bringing his sword skyward before letting it come sailing into a downwards strike towards Harold’s head.

Player 2 | Harold jerks back, leaning away slightly as the end of the sword narrowly avoids cleaving his skull – instead leaving a cut in its place, below his cheek. He follows by regaining his stance and position, waiting for the next blow.

Roleplay is writing a story, collaboratively. It’s a personal viewpoint of mine that roleplay to the degree written above drives us away from that point. But it’s all we know. However, should you pick up a book with fighting as a part of it, a scene might play out differently, like this(Of course made to fit what would be two individuals instead of 1 author writing):

Player 1 | Jason readies himself, sword leveled to Harold. A mere moment of stillness came to pass before he was sent hurtling forward, an onslaught of swings and blows levied at Harold, each one meant to kill.

Player 2 | Harold was not prepared for the swift and ferocious attacks, sent stumbling back and narrowly avoiding the first wave of blows before meeting them with his own – sword flashing through the air to parry and strike back, and regain his lost ground.

I imagine if two people consent, changing a style of RP fighting to this would be very allowed and viable. It flows with the general idea that emote times are not consistent between one and the other, and may still be “good” roleplay and portray a fight to watchers in a less boring way then waiting 20 minutes for a single sword swing from @Heero(Hey Mr. Thesaurus). Though bringing a style of combat fitting this viewpoint into someone unaware/unsuspecting would come across as.. Wrong, given that one emote might describe a myriad of actions in a simple way; “double emoting” only when brought to the first style of RP combat exampled, and yet perfectly valid otherwise. In short, the two styles of RP proposed here would be unable to mix.

As written, I would say that there’s no majorly different chances for people to powergame in either form of description. The Merit to the latter over the former lays in what I believe is a lack of argument over small, specific actions that could instead be glossed over as unnecessary and irrelevant; and maybe not taking 5 hours to do a fight because of it.

I don’t really have a big plan with this, I was just thinking about it and wonder if anyone has any interesting thoughts on the matter ! I didn’t even begin to touch on how magic would interact with it, but I have my ideas.

I’ll think about it! I used to make posts like that all the time. If I get some time after I finish college stuff I’ll rewrite it today, but you’re obligated to look at it now if I do :^J

  6. Man. Seriously though a problem like this needs a step back and distant view – A lot of people will also get instantly murdered if they do not instantly murder a shade. If someone attempts to make it a give and take, they’re considered just as bad. Basically to do what you’re asking would completely **** them over as well. With a problem like this I genuinely don’t know where one would start on figuring it out – I tried once and gave up pretty quickly. You’re looking at a problem that spans across all of the currently existing communities, and its hard to address it one at a time. Though honestly I just like playing the absolute nutjob that is my current shade more, instant death to me or not Now @Archipelego I’m going to quote one thing from Alpha that you probably should take note of tbh: Having something exist purely, 100% without exception, as a permanent punishment with a risk of having yourself force PK’d at any moment, is a bit bland and unrealistic. I do like all of the current downsides, but I’d argue that it needs anything to actually have an appeal for anyone to play. I’d keep it regardless because the entire premise of my shade revolves around everything the magic entails. This magic, as it stands, is more along the lines of a curse applied through shade magic rather than shade magic itself. I’m not even arguing to give it combat uses, but probably more than 2 rituals – one being just teaching and the other pseudo-PKing your character – would be nice. You argue that this would apply better shade RP to the server and yet those two interactions with their rituals are already based entirely in shades themselves. Are you, in any capacity, willing to add or change anything to what’s currently listed? Either make it at least 4 slot or give it a 3rd ritual use that isn’t purely aesthetic and relatively uses. I’m not going to pretend I have some grand scheme in my mind envisioned of what it could be, but I could definitely throw out some vague ideas if you can’t think of anything. At least something like this if you’re taking away our parasites, who to some of us, regardless of your experiences, made and drove decent enough RP. also a question about the lore as-is: So the shadow **** is non-combative, but what about using it aesthetically during combat? I.E. Having your shadow look like a monster or sm **** while you’re swinging your sword.
  7. I liked the parasite personalities when they weren’t played as just a second individual w/ no real difference from an elf or human, removing that is kind of sad when you could alternatively make a proper ruling on how they should behave. My only question though is if there is a progression system within this(i.e. Waiting 4 months for a TA, or just being taught the ritual any time after becoming a shade)? Tiers don’t seem to be relevant for something like this so I wont even ask about those. Beyond that.. Neato. I don’t have much of a presence on the server but seeing anything like this is nice

  13. I couldn’t really bring myself to help write after I spoke to you and saw it in its google doc stages some week or two ago. - You’re intending on wiping the entire community off the face of the earth despite never having been a member of it. - You, in writing this, worked alongside those who were nearly banned for harassment on the playerbase of it. - You, in writing this, are using art of previous accepted Izkuthii. My own character is featured in it. Somehow, you’ve attained permission of the artist. I’d like this to be changed regardless. As for the writing itself, some ideas are fine, but the writing and formatting leaves a lot to be desired. It’s a jigsaw puzzle. Honestly I’d like to let Izkuthii rest. Llahir creatures are a nice concept, but not this.

  15. Looking for someone who can make a SLIGHT edit to an armor skin. Just so the head dont look so blocky..

  16. https://discord.gg/fys2py This is the general lore discord. Finding teachers for magic is done in Roleplay, and you shouldn’t be looking for that OOCly. But this discord is for lorewriting/questions about lore, etc.
  17. Because nobody can say that their RP characters are better fighters than anyone and most people don’t have anything but the “win” mentality, isn’t making a super large character just an excuse to say “Because we have to be evenly matched in swordplay, I will win because of my better strength!” ?

At least the people who don’t RP anything bad about being large. This doesn’t define every single person of course.

  18. I don't have to read the lore to know it’ll be good. I’ll give a little background for anyone interested in the state of the current Paladin lore: When we set out to make it, at the time I was the one and only active Paladin on the server. I ended up gaining a few students, though before connections could begin, so did the lore games. I sat and waited, knowing that officially our lore was being written by a certain LT. But then he answered a question wrong. Then another, a third, so on so forth – Amounting to the point that my students and I were appalled that in every question from the beginning of the lore games, except for 1 or 2, we had been given incorrect information. We went to Flamboyant at the time, who agreed that it was dumb of an LT in charge of lore to seem to hardly know the lore at all, but nothing was really done about it. Whatever, right? We were making lore anyways... We thought. Beyond I believe one person, this LT in question refused to show a single person in the community the lore. He refused to answer anything but the most vague of questions. He said no to every single suggestion of something to add, without exception. At a point, we got tired of it and wrote our own lore. The LT in question dipped(until Telanir shot him and labelled it a suicide). The Lore itself was given a set of basic requirements from the get-go that were.. Less than satisfactory. But we’d make do. When we started, the LT in question deleted the Paladin chat out of spite. We wrote. It took the span of about 2 weeks to have it built from scratch, to forum-worthy. It looked good enough, but when votes came in and we got put on pending – massive amounts of the lore had to be changed. It was supposed to be anonymous, but the LT who wrote our needed changes was the very same LT who was initially writing the lore; who Flamboyant had told us was no longer allowed to touch our lore due to clear show of bias against us. The changes essentially.. shafted the lore. Bent it over a table and made ram ranch look tame. Spells from the previous rewrite that never had any issues, got nerfed to oblivion to the point of being hardly unusable. An ENTIRE section of the lore, got “nerfed,” before additionally getting “passed” and then made... Inaccessible by the players but still accepted? Yikes. This was the first wave. When we finished it, a second wave of necessary changes came that essentially ruined things more. They said we can’t even imply we are required to hunt spooks(we did it anyways lol) and essentially made us neutral over holy(grr). They also gave us so little spell-slots and asked for such high cost for each one that essentially casting a spell made you useless and hurt all over, and if you cast 4 spells you would be at risk of death(Old lore allowed for 5, I had allowed for 6). Oof. Alas, our savior came. Delmodan herself(I miss you). Pissed off by the clear antics of the LT in question from before(lets be real we all know who it was), she went to Flam and argued. She got a list of changes along with Archi here to make the lore even functionally playable. Barely. It worked for a time, but also, the issues never got really fixed beyond slight buffs/rebalancing. To the point that, since its passing, I’ve not once cast Paladinism. I was super excited for what we originally wrote, and almost none of it really went through beyond one oddly specific spell(Yes, only one). tldr: Current accepted Paladin lore got butt-fucked by an LT with a vendetta(the LT kept it secret that it was him who gave the necessary changes) to the point where it was hardly recognizable as the lore I had published, and has driven myself and a few others to essentially not even use the magic since then. Let me get a little personal from here on... Honestly I’ve been looking for a time and place to say what’s below for a while. It’s a little off topic, so bear with me. I hope it goes well @Archipelego
  19. The year is 2023. The current LT management are those who joined the server during the Voidal Incursion eventline. One of them goes, “I remember that Blundermore fellow, he was super cool when I first joined!!! Isn’t he in the veil?”

  24. Read the first sentence of magic explanation. Nowhere in the lore does it claim Shade to be a deity magic. Arun’asna is not an aengudaemon and not classified as such. Afaik, her lore marks her as on their same class/level, but she doesn’t have the title herself. She’s just a stronk patron inevitably born of Iblees. Shade is a Dark Magic. Calling it deity is small brain. Good **** tho. Up to Sam to toy around w/ that feedback come morning.
