Many Magi are shown to possess knowledge in controlling and manipulating gusts of wind and roaring fire. A spectacle on its own, however, was Arcane Evocation—most commonly known as Arcanism—the act of drawing out pure Voidal energies and shaping them to one’s desire. Arcanists—Magi who had control over this chaotic force—could unleash devastating attacks, construct nigh impenetrable barriers, and enviably, control over a passive and beautiful way to express their creativity. With time, Arcanism as a practice developed, such as the creation of larger, stronger shields, summoned weapons, and a myriad of other minor, yet nonetheless important innovations. Tragically, centuries after the Magic came to fruition, all Arcanists’ spontaneously found themselves completely incapable of drawing upon the Void to fuel their pure creative incantations. Much to their chagrin, hundreds of years of study and improvement had been wiped from the realm. The reason behind its disappearance is still unknown, but it hasn’t stopped Magi from attempting to revive the long lost art. Determined sorcerers of the modern day show no yield in their efforts to bring a renaissance to Arcanism, specifically the creation of the Arcanist’s Blade—an old artifact created by Magi centuries ago in the city of Norseth’onn. The mysterious nature of the Voidal Tears specifically allured these disciplined thaumaturgists, and thus sought to utilize the holes in the fabric of the world as a means of reinventing Arcanism. As the years burned away, Magi saw little to no accomplishment in bringing about the complete, independent evocation of pure Voidal energies. That being said, it would be an overstatement to deem their efforts in vain. Although Arcanism never saw its former glory, their effort to find a way to reconstruct the Arcanist’s Blade proved successful. Through extreme precision and care, a means of extracting a substance similar to Arcanism was found. By reaching their Magical prowess into Voidal Tears, it became possible to “strain” Mana from a Tear and bring it into the world; with even further experimental incantations performed via Transfiguration, it became possible to shape this Mana and bind it to an Enchantment. Potential’s corridors of doors slammed open at the breakthrough, allowing for creative potential wielded by the original Arcanist’s decades ago. Magic Explanation Arcane Sculpting is a delicate process that involves the active formation of a Magical “net” around a Voidal Tear. The created net carefully catches and harnesses Mana leaking from the Tear. This process is known as “Straining” and the Mana falling into the artificial net would become known as “Strained Mana.” Later, this Strained Mana may be shaped and bound to Enchantments to create small displays of art, weapons, and with the aid of multiple Magi, entire bridges. Due to its involvement with Voidal Tears and the manipulation of Mana, Arcane Sculpting requires the player to know Transfiguration and Translocation at a very proficient standard. OOC Explanation - Arcane Sculpting is a Feat. It does not take up a slot. - Arcane Sculpting requires an Active Transfiguration and Translocation [MA], both at Tier 5. - Arcane Sculpting requires an active [FA] to use in game. - Arcane Sculpting requires a Voidal Connection and Mana to cast. - Arcane Sculpting may be taught by someone with a valid [TA]. It may not be self taught. Learning Arcane Sculpting Although a foreign concept, Arcane Sculpting does not take an immense amount of time to learn by a well learned Alterationist, and may be learned in an OOC week with consistent lessons and valid instruction. Requiring a teacher, Arcane Sculpting may be taught to anyone assuming they are Tier 5 in both Translocation and Transfiguration. The process itself is exhausting and unfamiliar, but will become more sensible as the Sculptor practices. Properties of Strained Mana Strained Mana itself has a small, yet notable gradient of potential properties depending on how it is worked. Most notably, the color of the substance will adopt the Aura of the Sculptor working the Strained Mana, regardless if such is done solo or in a Circling Ritual. Through trial and error, it was found that Strained Mana, after accumulating in a Sculptor’s net, could either remain loose and easily malleable to work into beautiful works of art, around the consistency of glass, or be compressed and hardened to emulate the properties of fine steel or soft oak. As a bottom line for all forms of Strained Mana, the foreign material must be bound to an Enchantment by a Transfigurationist. After this point, the Strained Mana Enchantment stays fueled by passively taking in Mana from within its surroundings. This has no effect on the environment or personas. Spoiler Redlines: - Strained Mana’s color will always take on the hue of the Arcane Sculptor’s aura. It may not be altered once it is drawn out from a Tear. - If a Sculptor’s Aura color were to change, it would not affect pre-existing Strained Mana created by them; only their future works would be affected. - Strained Mana, regardless of form, cannot be sustained on its own and must be bound to an Enchantment by a Transfigurationist after it is shaped. Otherwise, it will return to the Void after some time. - Strained Mana, regardless of its form, is always active once it is Enchanted, meaning that one could not manually activate or deactivate it like a traditional Enchantment (you can’t extend and retract your sword like a lightsaber). Strained Mana will only disappear if it is damaged or if, by some means, is unable to take in Mana from the environment to naturally sustain it. - Strained Mana, regardless of form, is temperature resistant and does not gain or lose heat easily; however, Soft and Hard Strained Mana will dematerialized if the imitated material’s melting points are compromised (i.e. a Hard Strained Mana sword possessing the properties of steel will dematerialize if steel’s melting point is reached). - Strained Mana, regardless of form, remains active once bound to an Enchantment by passively taking in Mana from within its surroundings. This has no effect on the environment or personas. - Strained Mana regardless of form, is incredibly weak to Thanhium and Thanhic Alloy. A weapon of such make would cut through Strained Mana like a hot knife through butter, easily warding away the Enchantment into oblivion. - Strained Mana will hold the properties of the material it emulates (glass for Soft Strained Mana, and Oak or Steel for Hard Strained Mana). This includes weight, durability, critical temperature points, etc. - Weapons of Thanhic make striking something larger, like a gate or bridge would only remove the areas cut, in contrast to dematerializing the whole Enchantment. - Strained Mana may be Warded/Abjured by those who possess a valid [FA] in Arcane Sculpting. - Other forms of Alteration, such as Translocation, remain effective on Strained Mana once it is Enchanted. Additionally, Transmutation could be used to perform minor aesthetic changes on Strained Mana, such as color changes or small engravings, but any major structural changes will denature the Enchantment and render it useless. (credit ZynxPlock) Straining The process of straining is rather straightforward, though requires experience to perfect. As a first and foremost, a Voidal Tear framed in a receptive material (see Voidal Tear lore) is prerequisite. After this has been met, the Sculptor may extend their Magical influence towards the Voidal Tear in the form of Aura and create a sort of “net” that will accumulate the pure excess Mana that leaks from the Tear. This process usually takes a few emotes to complete, and Straining anything more than about a cubic meter’s worth of Mana in one session requires multiple Magi. After this, the Strained Mana may be extracted in a slow and cautious manner. With studious concentration, the Sculptor and whoever might possibly be assisting them, may then “sculpt” the Strained Mana via Transmutation. The Sculptor may then control the Strained Mana’s density, falling between either Soft Strained Mana or Hard Strained Mana. It should be known that due to Strained Mana’s fragile anchor in the Material Realm, it will disappear if left idle and is failed to be bound to an Enchantment. Spoiler Red-lines: - Straining may not be performed in combat. - Straining Mana requires a Voidal Tear framed in Magegold/Focus Crystals/Arcanium. - Straining Mana is not a passive process. A Mage must actively be focused on a Tear within line of sight in order to Strain Mana. - Roleplay reasonably. A total of two Magi’s combined Mana won’t be able to make enough Strained Mana to create a large structure. For a city’s main gate, roughly four mages total would be needed to Strain enough Mana to create the gate. - A single Sculptor may only extract up to two cubic meters’ worth of Strained Mana. Anything more requires the addition of multiple Magi. From here, it scales upwards at a reasonable proportion, with each additional Mage increasing the potential size of the Strained Mana object. - If enough Mana is strained enough to the point where a city gate is created, it will be unable to be strained again for three OOC days. - Straining requires immense focus, and slight disturbances can jeopardize the process. (credit Vera Velichoko) Soft Strained Mana Similar to solid Arcanism in it’s artistic form, Soft Strained Mana is a free-flowing and unrestricted form of the Voidal Tear’s yield. In this form, it may be freely shaped by the Sculptor and bound to an Enchantment. Soft Strained Mana, due to its more loose composition, has the durability of glass and appears rather translucent, giving off light as a potential aid. It’s durability makes it ideal for artistic and aesthetic displays once bound to an Enchantment, such as something like a vase. Spoiler Red-lines: - Soft Strained Mana items require an ST signature. - Soft Strained Mana has the durability and consistency of glass. If an object made of Soft Strained Mana were to collide with someone, it would break on impact and only leave a bruise at most. Once fractured or broken, it will explode into ethereal wisps, quickly returning to the Void. - Retaining the consistency of glass, temperatures in which mundane glass would lose integrity will cause the Enchanted Soft Strained Mana to disappear. - Soft Strained Mana may appear fine and jagged, but is incapable of piercing skin or doing any harm that involves cutting or piercing skin. - Soft Strained Mana must be bound to an Enchantment, as it cannot be sustained on its own. - Enchantments must be bound to a base. In other words, the Soft Strained Mana must sprout from its source object (e.g. a vase made of Soft Strained Mana would have to have a physical point on it in which the Soft Strained Mana summons). If the physical base that the Soft Strained Mana sprouts from is separated from the Strained Mana itself, the Enchantment will cease to function. Hard Strained Mana A more practical and refined form, Hard Strained Mana is compressed by the Sculptor to emulate durabilities such as fine steel or strong oak. Creating Hard Strained Mana is much more fatiguing than it’s soft alternative. Due to such, the Sculptor will be unable to cast any Magic for the rest of the encounter after shaping and Enchanting Hard Strained Mana. It should be noted that Enchanting Hard Strained Mana requires the use of Magegold/Arcanium in an Enchantment’s “base.” Applications of the enhanced Mana generally find their way into armaments and equipment, such as various types of weapons that would be traditionally steel, or perhaps a bow, considering that Hard Strained Mana may be worked to have the flexibility of sturdy wood. Additionally, with the aid of multiple Magi in a Coupling ritual (at least four total), larger feats such as gates become a possibility. Hard Strained Mana emits a significantly brighter glow than Soft Strained Mana and is slightly less translucent due to its density. Spoiler Red-lines: - Hard Strained Mana must be represented by an MC item with a Story Team signature. - Structures made of Hard Strained Mana are represented with Stained Glass, and must be approved by a member of the Story Team with a locked sign in place to verify. - Hard Strained Mana may have either the durability and consistency of strong oak wood, or fine steel. It is ideal for creation of weapons. Should Hard Strained Mana be fractured, it will expel wisps from the source of the break akin to a busted pipe leaking high pressure steam. This will cause the Strained Mana to fade away after a few seconds. A complete structural shatter will cause the material to vanish in a similar fashion to Soft Strained Mana, except exploding with significantly more wisps. - To further elaborate, if someone were to break their Strained Mana sword’s blade in half, the entirety of the Strained Mana bound to the Enchantment would dematerialize. - Retaining the consistency of either steel or strong oak wood, temperatures at which the two materials would naturally lose their temperature will cause the Strained Mana to disappear. - Hard Strained Mana must be bound to an Enchantment with Magegold/Arcanium composition, as it cannot be sustained on its own. That being said, although Hard Strained Mana is incapable of being “disrupted” like a traditional Enchantment, if its frame/base is broken or severely fractured, the Enchantment will fade away. Other than that, Hard Strained Mana Enchantments are resistant to being struck and having the Magical byproduct dematerialized. - Enchantments must be bound to a base. In other words, the Hard Strained Mana must sprout from its source object (e.g a sword’s blade must be bound to its hilt, a bow’s limbs must sprout from its grip.) - Again, Hard Strained Mana of either type is always active once it is bound to an Enchantment, and will not disappear unless it is broken or depleted of Mana. No lightsabers. - Gates, doors, and other large objects with mechanics made from Hard Strained Mana will possess the durability of iron at most, and abide by all of its mechanics, including locking parameters (if a Strained Mana door is created to emulate oak, then it will abide by wooden door lockpicking parameters). - Gates made of Hard Strained Mana abide by all pre-existing rules, including the red-lines listed. - Hard Strained Mana is not limited to weapons or gates and may be used to create mundane objects, but it must abide by the listed red-lines. - An exception to this is any sort of armor or arrows. You may not make armor or arrows/bolts with Hard Stained Mana. Arcane Sculpting Red-lines: Spoiler - Arcane Sculpting is not common knowledge among Magi. One may not RP “hearing” about Arcane Sculpting unless they have been told of it in roleplay. - All processes of Straining Mana may not be performed in combat. - Arcane Sculpting requires a Voidal Tear to perform. - As a clarification, all mention of “Hard/Soft Strained Mana Enchantment” is in reference to the material, Strained Mana, being bound to an object via Transfiguration. It does not imply that the Strained Mana is enchanted with another Voidal Magic, which cannot be done without the submission of a MArt. - Arcane Sculpting may not be used to create anything similar to Arcanism’s projectiles. - Unlike traditional Enchantments, an Abjuration that strikes the Enchanted object ITSELF (not the Strained Mana that it fuels) will only work if the user has an [FA] in Arcane Sculpting. - Hard Strained Mana armaments/objects have no advantage to well forged steel besides being unable to build up and maintain immense temperature, though the Enchantment will still denature and dematerialize if a critical temperature is reached. - Hard Strained Mana may only exist at the durabilities of either steel or oak, carrying their properties (besides wood being flammable). - Arcane Sculpting is incredibly weak to Thanhium, and will dematerialize upon being struck with such a weapon. - Arcane Sculpting may not be used to create armor. - Arcane Sculpting follows all red-lines of Enchantments unless specified otherwise in appropriate sections. Purpose Arcane Sculpting’s purpose is to revitalize an aesthetic that existed prior to the hard shelving of Arcanism: the Arcanist’s Blade. The creative and artistic potential in Arcanism should not have suffered due to its one-sided and blatant existence as a combat Magic used to get an edge over other Magi. Arcane Sculpting’s creative freedom lies only in its ability to make weapons/objects that have no advantage in combat, bar minor resistance to moderately low or high temperature, whilst similarly having a crushing and utter weakness to thanium. I hope to see this lore passed as to allow a lighthearted aesthetic addition to Voidal Magic and to possibly build on cultures.
